As we went for a ride in the mountains, we came across this restaurant which is on top of the mountain in a valley with wild animals and beautiful yellow flowers. At first it just looks like a normal place, but when you see the menu, you know you can't get anything more fresh and local as this. We had... More

The hotel is well located in the centre of the island, with views over the ocean way below to the south. The room was comfortable, with a nice balcony. The hotel seemed oddly deserted. Nobody on reception on arrival. We were half board and were eventually found a table in the 'rainforest restaurant' - where we were the only diners... More

The location of this hotel means that it will be of interest mainly to walkers and folks interested in landscape and finding the "other" Madeira. But a comfortable hotel with views over the sea - don't miss the sunsets. Good breakfast, great coffee. The manager and staff did their utmost to help us, for example to arrange travel and give... An Amazing location for relaxation, slightly dated but clean and well looked after. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. You will definitely need a car as it's in the middle of nowhere, best night's sleep I've had in a while. The views are spectacular, as you're above the clouds (if it's cloudy). Around 5000ft above sea level so around... More

The place has a phantastic setting and a spacious facility offering an adventure shop, a souvenir shop, two bars, a restaurant, ample parking and a chapel. It is ideally suited to discover the whole western half of Madeira. The staff is professionally friendly, but without warmth making you feel welcome. The quality of the breakfast buffet declined throughout our week;... More

A booked triple room turned out to be a double with a very wobbly rollaway crammed in. A cosy fireside lounge turned out to be a barren cold room with a fireplace we were not allowed to light. Scheduled, but unannounced maintenance meant we were left without hot water with no warning. the room smelt of damp. It was all... More

The hotel is charming and with a certain flair, and staff most friendly and professional. Though, the image of Madeira as a subtropical island becomes another dimension on the altitude of 1500 meters. We were prepared for low temperatures in beginning of May. But rain and fog at 3 - 9 degrees Celsius on four consecutive days forced us to... More

Set at about 5000 feet above sea level, you will notice the temperature is dramatically lower than at the coast. The Paul da Serra is a National Park and is a beautiful area of the island with plenty of walks and fantastic drives. Due to the altitude the weather can change very quickly, so do be aware in the winter... More
