We booked here as part of a group of 21 guests, staying between 7 and 16 nights. We wanted a base where we would feel as though we were in Thailand and not in a faceless hotel which could be anywhere in the world.
The World Resort proved to be the perfect choice for everyone of us.
The deluxe bungalows although a little worn, added to the charm, perfectly comfortable, cleaned everyday, and new bath and beach towels everyday.
The setting is perfect, peaceful gardens, nice pool area, and pathway leading down to the bar/restaurant area overlooking the beach.
There are over 50 staff working here, they are all so polite, always smiling, and greeting you with "Sawadika".
The manageress (Dee) must be very proud of all her staff.
They made us feel like friends, not just customers.
From the receptionists (Soniaporn), through to the bar / restaurant staff(Na, Pu, Ko, Gate, Kassara, Ploy) to name but a few were so very good, always there to help with any request.
On one occasion the night before our daughters wedding (which took place on the other side of the island), they made up a table on the beach for 27 of us. Floating candles, flowers, chair covers etc + Gate and Kassara did a fire eating/flame show for us all at no extra charge other than the standard meal costs. This is just an example that they give that extra effort to ensure guests have memories to cherish.
The restaurant food is excellent, it may cost a bit more than the local roadside restaurants and some of the busy venues in fishermans village, but the setting overlooking the beach and bay plus the quality and quantity make it brilliant value. We tried many places and always our favourite was the World Resort
After a nice breakfast the beach area is the ideal place to relax, try a massage and swim in the warm sea. Enjoy a light lunch+drink and relax some more.....perfect.
I can highly recommend World Resort to anyone who wants what our party was looking for in a perfect Thai holiday venue.

For this price range you cant beat the World Resort. Situated on lovely Bophut beach, a 15 minute moped ride away from crazy Chaweng yet enjoying the peacefulness of Bophut. It has a lovely pool, nice clean air conditioned bungalows a great restaurant overlooking the beach / sea and wonderful polite helpful staff. If this is your price range then i dont think you will do any better.

World Resort is located on Bo Phut beach which is one of the less developed beaches on Koh Samui. The cottages are all located in two rows running from the beach to the main reception which is on the road, but all are less than 2 mins walk to the beach. The beach is relatively quiet (compared to Chaweng) and there is a lovely pool when you get tired of the beach.
The bar and restaurant are slightly elevated and overlook the beach, which has Koh Phangan in the distance. There are lots of bars and restaurants along the beach and it is about a 20min walk to the Fishermans village along either the beach or the road.

To everyone out there, be careful of where you stay, when you sleep for the first time in my life I never thought authority, police and hotel owner would taken lives of people so lightly. 2 friends and I came to Koh Samui to play in a golf tournament. What happen was that on Wednesday night 13th of June 2012 my roommates and I went out to dinner, when we came back to the room at around 830pm we felt fine, until 930pm when we put our head on the pillows and that was it, all of us fell as soon as we lay on the bed I mean within 20 seconds, first was Yim then Pavit and I and I know that we do not sleep that early and that fast. The next thing we know was that we woke up, almost sleep through our tee time, all money and phones were gone, but the robbers left my macbook, and every other things that would not fit inside a person's pants pocket... What kind of robber would left out a macbook pro?? So I think it is an inside job. This isn't the first time it happen at this hotel either, it happen not once twice but 3 times. My friends were too nice, they didn't speak up after they got robbed, I didn't find out about the robbery at the same hotel at the same time every year when tournament is in Samui until the morning when I have no money, had to cancel my credit cards, and phones were gone. There were no cctv at where we stay so there is no way to identify who coming in and out... (Even small hotels have cctv these days) I know in Asian couture sometimes we have to be "Greng Jai" (let it be) because it's our friend's business, but this is the third time it happen and no one seems to be doing anything about it. The money and phones that we lost were close to 2500 USD, that is a lot of money for a normal person in Thailand to live, but the worst thing about this was that we were drugged and they were there while we were in the room, if one of us woke up I don't think I could be writing this post right now, they could've done anything to us, our lives were in danger and it seems like it doesn't mean much to the police or the people that in charge of the place... This morning I woke up at 4am to catch my flight, there were no security anywhere to be seen, that when I realized I put my trust to much at a place where I felt like it's my friend's house. I know for writing this post I might lose and friend, a person I gave a lot of respect to because my friend's family run the hotel but I'D RATHER TELL THE TRUTH AND HURT 1 PERSON THAN KEEP QUIET SO MORE PEOPLE COULD GET HURT. Please share this story to others, the robbers might walk around freely in the day but at least you guys will know what to watch out for at night. I really hope someone will do some investigation with the staffs and catch who had their hands in this.

When I booked World Resort hotel in Bophut, Samui, directly online, based on some recommendations. I visit Thailand very often, but I could not have imagined that this is going to become the most shocking experience I've ever had there.

World Resort prouds itself to be one of the oldest hotels in Samui. Well, old it is, and not in a good sense of the word. The tiles that cover the front building of the hotel pill off, the lobby area reminds somewhat an old wooden pub with a moldy smell, and the service that you receive (starting from a greeting) is equal to "why did you come and bother us?".

The rooms and bungalows are very old, and you can find cracks in the walls and floors. At nights, workers probably have a drink or two, and you can hear them shout and sing until as late as 2 or 3 AM, so don't count on getting a good sleep. However, it was nothing compared to what I've experienced there a few days later.

I've originally booked 9 nights, but seeing the hotel for what it is, I've dared to ask someone who seemed to be a shift manager (and who hardly speaks any English) whether it's possible to leave earlier and get a refund for the remaining nights. The replied that I received was, "it's not possible to refund you, because you've booked through the agency." Now, the first part I do understand - if you can't/don't want to refund me, just say so, but why lie and tell me that I've booked through the agency, while I did it directly through the hotel's website. Then, a short and polite exchange of opinions followed. All the while, a man was watching this conversation from aside, and the moment I've showed the receipt proving that I've booked directly through their website, he decided to step in. As I later learned, it was the owner of the hotel. Apparently he made it his business to step into a discussion about the refund or no refund of something like USD350. And then the shocker came. He started with, "You don't know me, but I've been listening to this conversation, and I must say that people from your country are 100% bad. I hear it from everyone – the police, other hotels, etc…." I was so stunned, that I've missed the rest of his tirade. I travel all over the world, but that was the first time someone told me this. In reply, I thanked him about his opinion of me and my country, and I told him that I'm going to share it on Tripadvisor and Lonely planet. Then he started twisting and turning, and backing off his statement, claiming that it's not what he thinks, but this is what other people tell him. At this point I didn't care about the money – I just wanted to leave, and so I did, immediately booking the hotel next door – Ibis – which was clean, the staff was courteous, and my stay there was comfortable.
The desk manager later offered not to charge me for the meals I had in their restaurant, which I obviously refused. The owner of World Resort decided to keep $USD 350 and a bad name, rather than compromise, or even not get himself into this situation to begin with. I guess it tells you that the business affairs of this hotel are not that well off. In any case – old hotel, terrible service and racist owner.

Stayed 2 times in May & June, first in a family triple bungalow, which was ok, a little used but functional and very clean. Firm beds, never slept bad there, quiet place, except you book the cheapest rooms at the roadside...
Always had some problems with moskitos in room, which we never were able to solve... must have some holes in the bathroom, water pond was just at the back of the bungalow...
Housekeeping was a little capricious, they replaced not exactly the missing things, but rather what they felt like to do.
Restaurant was nice, good quality at a reasonable price and a stunning view over the sea. Service was sometimes keen, sometimes chaotic. They make their own bread for breakfast, coffee is fairly good.
The ground is very nice and well maintained, lovely pool, especially for small kids. Nice Poolbar and attentive staff there.
Didn't use the Spa, but obviously there were always some people getting their massages, looked ok to me.
Second time we booked a Seaview, but got a free upgrade for the only Beachfront Bungalow, which was lovely. Big Bungalow, big terrace, also a little dated, but stunning view and a lot of space, huge bathroom, was a nice surprise. There we didn't have the problem with the moskitos in the room.
Hotel lies on the outer end of Bophut Beach, for us the nicest part of it, but a little far from the village. But transport isn't a problem a no time.
We would go there again, it's not a new and fancy resort, but well maintained and with a lovely staff and good for families.

I stayed at World Resort with my family for one week and it could not have been more peaceful and relaxing. The gardens are superb and the accodation good value for money. We stayed in bungalows with sea views which we would definately recommend. The restaurant overlooked the beach and served excellent food. The staff were friendly and helpful. The beach is probably not koh samui's best, with slightly grainy sand and silty sea, but the resort more than makes up for it.

We stayed in a standard bungalow in the middle of the resort and where very happy with our accomodation. It had a nice comfy double bed, refrigirator and a nice bathroom though it could need a bit of renewing.

The staff where very frendly and the whole place is very well kept with a fantastic tropical garden.
Really nice food in the restaurant and very good breakfast.

The pool area is very nice and child friendly and had a bar and possibillity for meals from the restaurant. The beach is also very nice.

Loved it, will come back :-)

We were in Thailand on our honeymoon and stayed at several resorts. World Resort was by far the best value for money we got - there's the nice swimming pool, good breakfast (good coffee!). We got a coupon for free appetizers at the resort restaurant, and a couple of free drinks to celebrate our honeymoon. The staff was friendly too. The beach is ok, the water is not so clear due to nearby fishermen activity (try the next one - Mae Nam beach, it's better). We had read somewhere that they had free internet but when we arrived we found out that there was no such a thing :-(
The bungalow was pretty nice. Air-con, TV, Safe box - they even put a couple of umbrellas in the closet which turned out to be very useful as it was raining the next day...
The toilet is nothing to fancy about though. If you can't take a shower with a bunch of friendly ants walking on the wall, go somewhere else :-)

We would definitely come back.

Pretty bungalows and nice landscaping, located on rows leading right to the beach. Bungalow contained air con, double bed, TV, a very good private shower/bathroom, teak wood room decor. Clean and neat...no complaints. Service was good. Excellent buffet breakfast with restaurant overlooking the beach. The beach is quiet and nex to what the locals call "fisherman's area" as you will see local fisherman going out on their little boats in the evening off to your left if you walk down the beach a little ways. Was a little pricey since we were backpacking Thailand but was terrific for staying our last night in Thailand before heading back home on a long flight. A great place to relax and unwind with a good vibe feel. Couples, families, friends of all ages were seen at this place. Did not have the "resort feel" to it compared to many other places you could choose to go...more private and quiet which was great.
