We stayed for a week at this beautiful family run resort in the most idyllic setting.

There are rooms with balconies and an apartment but we stayed in a beach front bungalow with beach views.

The room was spacious, spotlessly clean with a small private outside area with table, chairs and a storm lantern with candle. There was even a can of spray, if needed, should any little tropical creatures bother you. We didn’t see any. The shower room is large with towels, flannels and complimentary toiletries.

Breakfast is served daily until 11am, very civilised! It consists of fresh fruit, juices, cereals, yogurts, tea/coffee/hot chocolate toast & croissants REAL BUTTER and a selection of conserves...that’s just to start. There is a menu of cooked breakfast options; both European and Thai. The situation where breakfast is served is stunning, overlooking the beach.

After breakfast we chose to sit around the pool and read, (beach towels are provided) dipping in and out occasionally. We could order drinks and smoothies from the adjacent bar.

In the afternoon we meandered thought the lively village lined with bars, restaurants, tourist shops, treatment parlours & convenience store. There are plenty of ATMs. Many restaurants and bars had sea views.

The two outstanding features of this resort are the location and the staff. I cannot rate one higher than the other.

The small, clean beach dotted with palm trees, is raked daily, and sun-loungers are positioned facing the turquoise sea...but only a few metres away from the bar and your room.

The staff, without exception, were pleasant, smiling, helpful people who made a real effort to address each & every guest personally. The Boss was on site daily supporting his team and making sure everyone was having a good time.

Thank you to Robin & his team for a Paradise Holiday that exceeded expectations!

We hope to be back!

This was our 6th visit to Samui having stayed in different hotels around Bophut and Maenam previously. We picked the waterfront because we love the smaller resorts which always feel more authentic and charming and we weren’t disappointed!

Our room (12) had everything we needed including the usual large Thai (firm) bed, fridge, good a/c and giant wet room bathroom. The tv screen was very small but I was secretly pleased because who wants to come on holiday and watch tv! And the safe was quite small, so much so that a standard laptop didn’t fit in it. HOWEVER those are the only negatives I could say.

What makes the waterfront stand out over any of the other places we’ve stayed before are; 1) the grounds and breathtaking view over the sea and out to koh pagnan. You really couldn’t wish for any better view in the world and the gardens and pool are meticulously looked after by Mak and colleagues every day. And 2) the team- who are hilariously funny (SangSom!), warm and friendly. They all work so hard and were an absolute pleasure to be around and clearly enjoy working for Robin which speaks volumes.

The breakfast was great and made fresh every day. But the lunch menu was even more delicious for the Thai food and was a brilliant price. It’s also really refreshing to stay somewhere that encourages you to drink at the bar with its low prices rather than many places now that are double the price of the bars outside. Because of this there is a very warm and friendly vibe to the place as fellow travellers and staff get chatting.

I could go in for ever about what a wonderful place the waterfront is but I’d rather it didn’t get too busy so we can secure the dates for our next visit! Thank you Robin and team for putting up with us for 17 nights we hope to see you soon :)

Just back from our umpteenth visit to The Waterfront. We cannot get enough of this fantastic, friendly little hotel. The staff are welcoming and attentive, Robin is a genial host and everyone's friend. The rooms all have sea views. The grounds are picturesque and the pool is never busy. The breakfast choice is ample and the menu offers Thai and European food at reasonable prices. The bar is a great gathering place in the evening and after dinner when friendly guests compare notes on their restaurant experiences. It really is very convivial.
I read some recent reviews before writing this and I feel obliged to make some comments about what I see as unfair criticism. Ask yourself how it is possible for the sea in front of the hotel to be "filthy" yet clean 70 yards away? Does anyone really think that 3000 baht is expensive for a room with a ea view and breakfast included? How many other hotels offer free pick up and transfer to and from the airport? I love the hard mattress, it is good for my back. I don't find it necessary to closely examine the bathroom for mastic, I just want a hot shower and clean towels. I don't expect a spacious well furnished room, I just want the basics of bed, aircon, fridge and decent storage space, plus free safe.

30 of the guests in February were repeat bookers. That says it all to me. Much more so than the odd petty or vindictive review. Thanks again Robin and staff. We will see you again next year.

Thank you so much for your great review, we think it was the 7th or 8th. Thank you for your comment regarding our staff, breakfasts and reviews. I agree it is always convivial around the bar when we have so many returning guests. As you pointed out this was great how mant returnees we had in February. Thank for your remarks when we have unfair criticism one of which many found very suspicious again. We all look forward to seeing you again next year.

This review is well overdue, however I feel I need to compliment robin and his staff for running such a lovely boutique hotel. The staff are absolutely lovely, the hotel is clean, caters to all needs and friendliness is first class. We have been to this hotel many times and would not consider looking elsewhere. We have stayed in other places but always return to this little gem. The rooms are immaculate, food is delicious, fruit brought to guests sunbathing in the afternoon and many returning guests. That says it all - everything is here to sample a piece of paradise.

I am well aware my response is over due but as I said before I was waiting to give up to date position here. Firstly thank you very much for your excellent review and lovely to see you againon what Ithink was your 5th visit. Thank you for your comments about the cleanliness, staff and food. Currently things are very quiet on the island and we haven't officially re-opened but will shortly. As most people will read there are virtually no tourists allowed to arrive as yet. So we just have to sit and wait. Compared to Europe our virus figures are very low Thank you again for the review.

This was immaculately clean, comfy big bed - I stayed in a Deluxe Beachfront Bungalow and had lots of thoughtful touches ie; free water everyday, corkscrews, lighters, umbrella, free little jugs of shampoo, soap and conditioner. The staff were super efficient and helpful as was the owner Robin. The location is perfect as the main high street of Bhoput can get quite busy and loud with bars etc but this little heaven is situated at the quiet end, so only a five minute walk to restaurants etc...
Cant recommend it enough....SUPERB!

I stayed in bungalow 1 at The Waterfront for 10 days at the end of a 3 month trek through Thailand. My whole trip, all I wanted was a bungalow ON the beach (not near, not a view of, but ON) and a pool. You’d be amazed at how hard that is to find at a reasonable price. As soon as I walked through the entrance to the garden and saw the sign for reception, I knew I had finally found it. It felt like Fantasy Island. Bungalows edge the pool, and then there’s sand and water, and Koh Phangan in the background. For 10 glorious days, I was surrounded by the peace and serenity I was looking for.

COVID has taken its toll on a lot of small hotels in the area and shut them down completely, others have been able to scale back additional service offerings and provide premium accommodations. The Waterfront is by far the best example of this, and they are poised to return to full operation as travel restrictions ease. Every day I saw members of staff maintaining and improving the grounds.

Random thoughts:
Air conditioning was cold. Refrigerator was cold. Shower was hot. Bed was super comfortable. The pool is kept meticulously clean. The landscaping is beautifully manicured. There’s a fantastic lounge area by reception with books to borrow. They offered access to the kitchen area for longer-term guests as the restaurant is currently shut down. While the beach isn’t the best for swimming, as there is a lot of coral and it is quite shallow, the benefit of this is that there are not tons of people sitting on the beach in front of your magnificent view. There are no jet skis flying in front of you making a bunch of noise. Bottles of water are delivered to the room every day, and fresh linens and towels were available every time I asked.

The staff was incredibly kind and helpful. The front desk booked taxis and restaurant reservations for me. Great conversation as well. I am looking forward to the day that the restaurant reopens and they offer their cooking class again.

If I find myself on Samui long-term again, I will be sure to stay at the waterfront.

Our sixth visit to the Waterfront which more or less says it all!
A wonderful small "Boutique Beachfront Hotel" in a prime location in Fishermans Village with numerous restaurants and bars within easy walking distance.
Our Deluxe Beachfront Bungalow was spacious, spotlessly clean with wonderful views to the island of Koh Phangan.
Start the day with a breakfast of assorted juices, fresh fruits, cereals, baguettes, pancakes and of course the choice of a traditional english "fry up".
Robin is a superb host and along with his amazing, friendly and helpful long serving staff do everything possible to make your stay the most enjoyable experience ever.
The fabulous pool bar, where friends old and new meet every evening, creates a warm and friendly atmosphere for which the Waterfront is renowned.

Our sincere thanks to all for making our stay so special!

Not knowing the Fisherman Village area of Koh Samui, I initially only booked this hotel for two nights. After my two night stay I feel in love with both the hotel, the staff and the area and booked the remaining 45 nights at this hotel.

You can conveniently walk to the main restaurant and bar area of Fisherman Village, 7/11 and Tesco without having to hire a taxi or motorcycle. The area has fantastic French, Australian, Italian, English Pub and Thai red restaurants mixed in as well as pubs with easy listening live music.

The hotel is located right in the beachfront with a nice sparkling pool and lounge chairs. Each of the rooms has a view of the beach and water. My entire stay I had no issues with noise as this property was attracting mature adults and couples. The rooms are clean and had plenty of space as well as nice size bathrooms with hot water. Several rooms are separated bungalows with no common walls.

Due to Covid no breakfast was available but there were several great choices for breakfast within walking distance. Even with Covid the owner Robin had enough staff to handle cleaning rooms, maintaining pool, raking leaves, etc.

With my extended stay I really got to know the owner and his staff who really made my stay special. If you are coming to Koh Samui and want a quiet area with a nice boutique hotel experience, don’t miss the Waterfront Boutique Hotel. It was difficult leaving when my time was up to go home. I will definitely be back on future trips. These small hotels with this kind of staff are getting more difficult to find. It’s a little gem.

If you want a holiday where everything is done for you from staff who are always smiling and nothing is too much trouble, this is certainly it. This was our ninth visit where we met friends from way back, who, like us have been coming here for years, so we can't all be wrong. Nothing changes, which is its charm. The sun is practically guaranteed, the hotel rooms are very comfortable, the beachfront is so attractive, the sea is always warm, the local restaurants are both welcoming and relatively cheap. The owner, Robin, is an engaging host who keeps everything ticking over in a relaxed unruffled manner. Once through the entrance arch off the road we feel at home and ready to enjoy another 4 weeks of relaxing holiday.

This is indeed a terrific place. Our previous reviews explain why we return every year. Its not that we lack imagination it’s simply, along with many others, we have found something special.
Small, welcoming and superb value for money, The Waterfront combines fun and relaxation with lots of thoughtful extras in the room, unexpected pineapple or coconut delivered to your balcony or sun lounger and ‘normal’ drinks prices which encourage a wonderful atmosphere around the beachfront bar.
Robin’s relaxed presence on site and his cheerful bonhomie hide an eye for detail and a genuine desire to provide his guests with the perfect holiday. You ask, you receive and this ethos is shared by his long serving staff (no coincidence) who go out of their way to please and are encouraged to show their own character and personalities. They are an absolute delight.
Thanks to one and all, including our fellow Waterfronters, for yet again providing such a memorable time. Here’s to the next time !
