Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have recently had a party at the hotel. The organisation and communication were great from the staff. I was able to use all of the sea terrace and the bar area. Myself and many guests stayed in the rooms too, they were all beautiful, spacious, clean and comfortable. The layouts of the room were all very different and very well thought out. We were lucky enough to get sea view rooms, which was amazing at sunset. All my guests have raved about how great the evening was, I am so glad I picked this as a venue. A big thank you to Maggie for all your help and organising everyone’s stay.

Lovely room needs updating but otherwise ok. Good location not far from Hastings within walking distance. But evening meal was quite poor main restaurant closed so meals were served in a small bland room that sat 20 far to bright and no music everyone was talking in whispered tones didn’t feel comfortable at all. Food was served with no cutlery such a shame will not be returning

Was awoken up at 05:40 in the morning by a motor or machine from inside the hotel, called reception to make them aware, the noise carried on util well past breakfast. I requested a refund at reception when I left but the staff member could not authorise. It was suggested that I call the manager which I did, she asked me to send in an email. I have sent 3 emails and they have all been ignored.

We recently organised a family event at the Hotel working closely with Maggie, the Events Manager. There were 26 guests for pre-lunch drinks and lunch. It was the first time we have hosted an event at the Royal Victoria Hotel. The whole event was a joy. Maggie and her Team did an excellent job taking care of us. The lunch was delicious, with vegan, vegetarian , fish and chicken options. Portions were generous. The chef did a superb job. There were 6 children who were kept entertained with games supplied by the hotel. Dog friendly too! Feed back from our guests not only with the event but also with the hotel rooms has been very positive.

Got uprated due to booking via HRS not being made . Not the hotel's fault but rhey dealt with the issue very professionally. Room was nice. Bed was comfortable as we're pillows. Room was clean throughout. Enjoyed our stay. We did not eat in so can't comment on foid but enjoyed a few drinks at the bar, with a great sea view.

We booked a sparkling afternoon tea for our wedding anniversary. We were disappointed with the lack of food that came out. Two slices of bread divided into 3 each half so a whole sandwich between two. These were dry on the edges. Scones were fresh but petite fours were shop bought and been defrosted for a while as they were soggy on the bottom. Wasn’t asked if we were ok or needed anything so after 45 minutes we left. Such a shame as experience could have been so much better 😢

Everyone should visit this historic town on the South of England. This Grand building has been in business for over a century and witnessed countless changes. Spacious rooms and a hearty breakfast, with seaside or village views. Very nice.

Having read most of the reviews I can agree on the positive and see where the negative could be coming from. We had a very tasty meal here on Sunday and went for the 3 course set menu very reasonable which included the carvery with a choice of 4 delicious meats and an abundance of veg and trimmings, really couldn't complain about the food. We love the grandeur of the hotel and the view from bar and restaurant is second to none. Yes it is dated and tired in areas and could do with Alex Polizzi Hotel Inspector helping them out if only. I do enjoy going there from time to time just for a drink to watch the sea do it's magic on a rainy afternoon just to have a relaxing time. What I would like to say I wish the management would invest more time in their staffs appearance as although very polite and courteous, the clothing worn was unprofessional and extremely dirty with food stains, in the hospitality industry where health and hygiene is paramount you really need to smarten your staff up and make sure food servers are looking clean so eating there doesn't make you question the lack of hygiene. I would definitely recommend and return but I would love the management team to invest in the staff a bit more as it's nice to support local business and I believe more people would go back if the smaller things were actually addressed.

Hotel looks like nothing special from the outside but don't be fooled it is very grand inside. Beautiful old staircase and chandeliers inside. The room we had was on the 4th floor and we were amazed at the size of the room which was very large. The decor was lovely, carpets and beds were very good quality. Recommended this hotel.
