This was our sixth visit to Pinewood Beach Resort and it is better than ever. It is good to see the hotel flourishing and virtually full which reflects renewed confidence in the tourist trade in Kenya but also the incredibly high standards at this hotel.
As a relatively small hotel situated on a quiet stretch of beach the overwhelming feeling is peace and tranquility. Accommodation is situated in small houses along a road down to the beach which creates a village type atmosphere, with the sight of the blue ocean through the palm trees at the beach end of the village being truly amazing.
A highlight for us is the superb range and variety of food, particularly the themed dinners, served either in the restaurant or alongside the pool or in the BBQ area adjacent to the beach. Attention to detail is a feature of everything the talented team of chefs prepare. A welcome innovation is the fruit bar and freshly cooked dishes for breakfast in addition to the buffet. The banana fritters on a Friday are to die for!!
The major attraction of Pinewood are the wonderful staff and management. Literally nothing is too much trouble and everyone is just pleased to see you and concerned that you have a great holiday. It is inappropriate to pick on individual members but whether it is the very visible management team, waiters, chefs, bar staff, reception staff, cleaners and ground staff, all we can say is thank you for another great holiday at Pinewood.

From the time of arrival until our departure it was a wonderful experience staying at Pinewood. Especially during COVID times, we were very happy to have chosen this hotel. All staff members wore masks everywhere (at the beach, outside and inside premises ), there were sanitizing stations all around, social distances were kept. Breakfast and dinner buffets were served by staff, which made us feel safe while we still had a big variety to choose from.
Shortly before our departure back to Germany, contradicting news spread regarding the necessity of a negative test for our flight back. The Manager Pamela went out of her way and arranged everything for us within no time, so that we had the negative results before leaving the hotel.

We really felt more like family than just guests. The hotel staff were very welcoming and it was obvious they really wanted us to enjoy our stay and each meal we had. Food was delicious and the different themes and locations each evening were fun. We highly reccomend the Pinewood Resort!

Pinewood resort is right at the end of a long (and bumpy) road at Diani beach. The hotel is extremely well laid out amongst beautiful trees and flowers, and has an area of private beach attached to it. Special mention has to be made to the wonderful artwork in the resort which, as an artist, I very much appreciated. The main restaurant is good and the food tasty, with plenty of variety. We had a suite and our teenage children the room upstairs. Both were large, comfortable and well decorated. Lunch is served at the pool bar and if I was being picky, I would say that some lighter lunch options would be a good addition to the menu there, but everything we had was delicious. The resort has plenty of wildlife, the weaver birds are constructing their nests whilst you have breakfast, the very noisy frogs are in full chorus in the evening, the monkeys are running around the trees during the day which is lovely. It is a very quiet resort, which we didn't mind, but might not be everyone's cup of tea and a bit more entertainment in the evenings wouldn't go amiss. The only thing that I thought could be improved was the access to water. Bottles were chargable, even on an all inclusive package, and although glasses were included, they were small and you needed a lot of them. Some water stations around the resort would be a good addition and stop you feel like you are constantly asking the staff for water. All in all, an excellent resort that I would be happy to stay at again.

Disappointed for 460 USD / Night on Full Board
Looked like A CARE HOME for elderly people
The hotel were full with guests age between 65 -80 .
The food was terrible from Menu , limited or extra surcharge on full board !
The Mango dessert wasn’t available but the vanilla ice cream and fruit platter yes ! The cheep and easy was available
Rice was dry ,not fresh chewy meet for 460 sd / night
Old bed and bedding
Pool need an update. And more cleaning need .
On the phone thick dust , it wasn’t clean for more then a week
The only water battle we got for drinking was filled up few days before .
These all bad experience came up only in few Hours that’s why WE LEFT the resort !
The security had cafe 2 yards away from us in the Lobby, the gun was facing to us ! it made me feel bad and i worried about a terrorist attack , not until this day
We have been to several Hotel and Resort i in Diani Beach, i saw security at the gate , but Gun never was visible at all

They made double reservations , during busy Half term last week in UK also Half term in Kenya, i paid in advance 460 USD / night Executive Suite Beach front with spectacular view and personal shef in my room ,But they gave Deluxe Small Room , No personal shef
All we remember about the Resort is the Dry rice, old warm drinking water and Dated Dirty Pool and loungers and the Gun

Good rooms with nice air conditioning, a bit noice, but no problem sleeping.
All rooms suited in small houses have small place outdoor for relaxing after a long day and there is two floors in all houses.

There are no glass window in the bathroom so remember put out the light and close the door. Otherwise it will be hot In the room and full of insects.

Nice bed, minibar and safety box.
Great breakfast, specially egg station and fresh fruits. Still they can practice on making bacon...

We have during our stay all inclusive and that I can recommend.
Great lunch especially pizza on the beach but also nice fresh salad and snacking.
And for dinner different new menu every evening some with live music or Masai show.

Good stay.

My friend and I took our families to Pinewood Beach Resort and Spa for the xmass holidays. The weather in Diani was very pleasant with some occasional drizzling. This is the third time we have visited Pinewood and we were pretty enchanted by its timeless beauty, service, food and hospitality. We were happy the hotel has been kept in tip top quality for ten past 10 years when we fast visited. The staff were amazing led by Pamela the Manager. The hotel beach front has an amazing serenity. Pinewood certainly offered good value money and has charmed us in to a possible fourth visit.

We just returned from Pinewood Beach Resort and Spa. Our stay was OK to pleasant, with several pros and cons. We have stayed at better places in Diani, and would likely give this a miss next time. For sure, it does not deserve the 9.3 review on Booking.com

Pros: nice, cosy and fairly spacious rooms, with a very cute balcony. Attentive staff. At the beach. Good breakfast. The a la carte menu is good (folks order a la carte during lunch). Decent night entertainment (not cheesy bands but fairly authentic local performers and dance groups). They allowed late checkout, which was very nice!

Cons: The hotel is a bit run down (except the rooms). It starts with the lobby, which is not inviting or 'classy'. And a big TV where drivers and locals are watching football games. The 'furntiture' throughout the hotel is cheeky plastic, not very stylish. The swimming pool is run down (tiles are even falling off from the edge). Service is VERY slow - on our first day, after a wait of more than two hours, we had to forsake the free lunch and go to another place to eat. We were full board and brought our own wine - and were charged for drinking our own wine on the beach (!). The buffet food is always the same (barcebcued or wokked fish, shrimp, meat) so it gets boring from day 2 - we also escaped that after some days. The place is VERY remote (it is the last hotel in Diani), so if you go out, which we did a lot for swimming, walks, food, etc, you spend quite some time doing so.
Cons: several.

We have just returned from a fantastic 7 night stay at the Pinewood. The beach location is stunning, excellent pool and superb (and varied) food served on the beach or by the pool, as well as the restaurant. The hotel is beautifully decorated with African artwork that is genuine, rather than a pastiche. Rooms are laid out in small blocks of 3 in impressive gardens, and so the whole feel is relaxed and personal; this is not a faceless corporate hotel and indeed the owners take meals with the guests, welcoming everyone they see. However, whilst all the facilities are excellent it is the staff who make the difference between "good" and "great"; the staff at the Pinewood are exceptional. Every single member of staff was charming, extremely friendly and always knowledgeable about whatever question was asked. The staff really seemed to care that guests enjoyed their stay and the resident manager (Pamela) was one of the most professional (and very nice!) people we have met over many years of travelling. All in all we would recommend the Pinewood without hesitation.

I just spend four nights there, returning from Uganda. Hotel was almost empty, but the staff did everything to take care about the guests. Always varied food and very good dinners, especially Mongolian dinner with really great food.
The staff very friendly and very helpful. Beautiful beach for both - swimming and walking. The weather was poor but it has nothing to do with hotel.
Seaview rooms are beautiful and have a balcony with excellent sea view.
I booked all inclusive. The only thing I did not like it was the necessity to pay additional fee for many drinks and some meals from a la carte menu. I talked abut it with the manager and we found a solution for the drinks (I always ordered to prepare from local beverages). Buy the way the pizza was without any surcharge and because of excellent oven it was one of the best pizzas I ate. When you plan to go here take the flight to Ukunda Airstrip which is 20 minutes away. For return flight you can choose Mombasa and spend 2-3 hours walking around the old town.

We have stayed at Pinewood 5 times over recent years, recently Nov 2019, and always all-inclusive. One thing to bear in mind is that water/soft-drinks will be a must, and unlimited at no cost all-inclusive, so plenty for your son. Lunch meals average about 1000 kenya shillings, and a Tusker around 500 kenya shillings, so you could easily rack up a large bill if paying. Plus, all-inclusive up front takes away the worry of how much cash you will need to take. However, the location is fabulous, and a super special resort.

Hi Emma We were at Pinewood this July. The resort is nice and the beach beautiful. But - we were not able to snorkel at all as the visibility was very bad. My husband and son did a scuba dive, but didn't see anything due to bad visibility. Best regards Gitte
