Piero Guerrini, the hotel owner was very welcoming, friendly and generous, as was his staff. We had a good choice of food, but mostly chose to eat the most delicious fresh fish, caught daily, cooked in banana leaves with many different vegetables. The food was cooked in the various different traditional styles of the diverse people of Trinidad. We had choices of different wines or beer to accompany our meals. We dined in the lodge surrounded by the art work made by local people. This simple, large elegant room was only a few feet from the beach. It was shaded by some enormous 'Tropical Almond' trees, where a group of Yellow-crowned Night Herons, hidden high up in the dense top most branches, roosted during the day. Our tropical hardwood bedroom suite opened onto a large covered deck overlooking the beach, surrounded by trees. Piero arranged for a guided tour to see birds in the jungle. We saw the rare Piping Guan, among many other different species. Guides took us on a motor boat ride along the dramatic rocky coastline, where the jungle meets the sea. We passed close by Brown Pelicans gathered on small rock outcroppings in the sea. We watched large Frigate birds soar high up in the sky. We landed at Paria Bay, ate a hotel provided, picnic lunch on the beach. Drank fresh coconut milk from coconuts sold informally on the beach. After, we walked inland along a jungle path, led by our guides to the magnificent Paria Waterfalls. There we heard many different birds and saw large butterflies including the magnificent shimmering Blue Morpho. We bought chocolate bars In Grande Riviere from a small chocolate factory in the local cultural center. The cocoa beans harvested locally in the jungle from trees that were once part of a plantation. We left the hotel before the height of the season. Then the beach is protected so as not to disturb the huge female leatherback turtles, which come to lay their eggs deep in the sand every March-August, as they have for literally millions of years. Late in the season you can see the hatchlings make a break for the sea.The people in this remote corner of Trinidad take pride in the natural beauty of this place and are developing ecotourism which provides a livelihood while preserving their precious flora and fauna. We hope to return to the Mt Plaisir Estate Hotel to see the turtles and to experience once again the spectacular unspoiled natural beauty and peace of Grande Riviere.

This hotel was clean, comfortable and safe. The design makes you feel right at home in the Caribbean. Located on the beach the soothing sounds of the ocean make you feel at peace. The turtle watching office is a 1 minute walk from the hotel so it is easy to get tours to see turtles during the nesting season. In the height of the season I am sure you can see turtles nesting from your room. We unfortunately did not see any large nesting turtles, but arrived just in time to see the baby turtles being released into the water (thanks to the owner). The breakfast and dinner was absolutely exquisite. You have options for a continental breakfast or delicious local cuisine. The staff were friendly too! We loved our stay and would defiantly stay there again!

The stay at the hotel was great. You must take into consideration the length of drive depending on your location; however, it is well worth it. Accommodation was clean and comfortable. Great ocean view from the balcony of room. Food was amazing, good choice if you want to experience locally cultured menus. Service was refreshing, all staff was friendly and helpful, special mention to Leah and Candice who we dealt with most of the time.

Some items to consider.
The pool is nice but small, therefore can be a game changer if you require a larger pool for swimming or prefer personal space.

The prices for drinks were a bit on the higher side, however meals come with a complementary drink.

All in all, I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Most amazing leatherback turtle watching experience. The stay started at the check in desk where we were greeted by pleasant efficient staff offering us cold face towels to refresh ourselves after the car ride to the hotel. The accommodations were first class and the ocean view was breathtaking. As it was early in the season we were only able to see 3 turtles come up on the beach to lay their eggs. We were led by a knowledgeable guide to witness the giant leatherback laying her eggs. An experience everyone should have at least once in their lifetime.
The rooms, staff, dining and ambiance were all commendable. Our only regret was that we should have stayed in those beautiful surroundings for more than one night.
Would highly recommend Mon Plaisir.

I spent two days here as part of a wildlife trip to Trinidad. The service and welcome from the staff made me feel at home straight away. The room was excellent with full facilities and air conditioning or fan inside. towels & shower gels supplied and outside seating to look at the view of the bay. The only thing with the outside seating was you were sitting at an angle out to sea this is no reflection at all on the service & cleanliness of the place. If you went at the right time of year if you wished to be woken early during the night { 3 AM ish } to see Leatherback Turtles making the holes for them to lay their eggs and watching them do it was a great experience as I am a lover of nature and interested in whatever happens.
The food is good and plentiful.
I certainly would stay here again.

Grande Riviere is at the other end of Trinidad from everywhere else. Normally people come here for the turtles who find this beach perfect for laying eggs. I came before the turtles so it was quiet. I had my choice of rooms all facing the sea right on the beach. I was on the second floor with a wonderful balcony right on the sea. The room was nice and wooden, the bed comfortable. Because it was before turtles I was the only one there. Yet for breakfast and dinner the staff treated me special. Breakfast was as ordered and dinner was very good. The owner was there to give me great advice for birding. It was the refuge I was looking for.

Newly refurbished and opened, this is a great place and a must to see the Turtles and birds not seen by us elsewhere in Trinidad or Tobago (Including Pawi). Great guides from the hotels for the birds and the turtles coming ashore at night. Staff were fabulous, rooms very clean and air-conditioned. Full board with good food and drinks. The hotel is almost on the beach which is clean and safe. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough, it was quite a journey from Asa Wright and the airport but well worth the drive.

Had an amazing staycation at Mt. Plaisir Estate Hotel this weekend. Friendly staff, clean rooms and the sound of the ocean as we fell asleep. Really enjoyed the breakfast and dinner options. Also, had the experience of meeting a couple leather back turtle hatchlings.

Definitely will return to this establishment, I do recommend!

Nice older hotel. Nice room and it is right on the beach which gave us access to the turtles. Excellent food with lots of local, fresh ingredients. They were quite willing to modify the food, too. Staff was helpful and knowledgeable about the area and its history.

Beautifully upgraded property, pleasant staff, clean and comfortable rooms. Perfect for a quick get away for locals. The highlight is getting the opportunity to see the massive leatherback turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs, this is a seasonal event!

Hello. The price varies based on room size etc. I would suggest you call them and get the relevant details. The number is 1-868-‭670-1868‬. Although the sizes seemed small the meals were quite filling. Breakfast was the best...home made bread was absolutely delicious.
