As a local I have stayed at several other hotels in Tobago but this was my first time at Magdelena. Having been there during the oil spill, only the main pool was opened and the beach was not accessible. Yet not compensation or price reduction was offered for the inconvenience. The room was spacious but our shower was smaller than a cruise ship shower, you can barely move around in there. The air conditioning didn’t work very well, the bedding was disappointing with only a thin sheet to cover and the towels are old and dingy. Our ocean view room had a view of grass and a caution fencing. Breakfast was unpleasant, there was never any cold cuts and cheese or yogurt and hot chocolate. These are basic items which I do expect at a hotel like the one. Also when items run out they take forever to replenish them, our party actually opted to go out and purchase breakfast one morning as it was generally stressful to have breakfast at Magdelena. The main pool was clean and the staff there were friendly but drinks prices are extremely exorbitant for cheap rum and mixers in a disposable plastic cup. We paid TTD 120 for a pina colada and a beer. The food service at Robinsons bar was slow but food was good. Overall I would not stay here again especially at the price they offer. Places like crown point hotel or even Tropikist are far better at a lesser price, better beach and food as well as convenience.

Where should I start....summary first, then details. Overall, it was relaxing. We came to wind down after Trinidad Carnival so we weren't planning on doing too much. Unfortunately, we arrived a week after the oil spill so the beach was off limits to us. The TV in our room didn't work during our stay. The wait time for food was too long, the drinks were watered down, and customer service is not a thing. The two pools were nice. One is family friendly with a kids section and swim-up bar. The other was adults only and further away from the action. The swim-up bar was difficult to access outside of coming from the kids side. The bar was scarcely manned once you were there. Once you get a drink upstairs on the dry side, good luck getting another while on the pool side. Speaking of drinks, blended drinks and cocktails were very watered down. You had to get an extra shot to get a buzz. Food service in Robinson Carusoe was poor. Took forever to get someone to come over to bring water and take an order. And this is not in a crowded setting, this is only 3 of us at a table and 3 guys at the bar. Food at Pemboise was good enough, except they don't cook their bacon. On the breakfast buffet, the warmer holding the bacon had a pile of mostly raw-looking limp bacon. I had to dig to the very bottom to find actual cooked pieces. Customer Service was non-existent at the front desk. You walk up and may or may not be greeted. If you are, it will be a stare down until you finally say hello and state your business. Forget about getting a friendly hello; exception being Rhonda at the concierge desk and Cecilia at by the pool. These two ladies were awesome and are examples of what customer service should be at a resort. Trey was very nice as well. Unfortunately, I cannot recall the young man's name who was dispensing pool towels. He was nice, too. The TV was stuck on the check-out screen from the previous guest. I called the front desk no fewer than 3 times for assistance and absolutely nothing was done. The towels are dingy and need to be put out of service. The room and bathroom were a nice size. Just took bad out patio was facing men in hazmat suits working to clean the oil-soaked sand and rocks. To sum it up, I wouldn't go back as it's not worth the money for me.

My adult family and I stayed at this beautiful hotel for a week or so and found it to be amazing in terms of service and food. The entire staff were very pleasant and acomodating to any of our requests very quickly.Rooms were cleaned every day and with fresh towels daily. The food was very well prepared and tasty and plentiful and the prices were good compared to other restaurants on the island. Our 3 rooms were adjacent to each other and well placed by the pool and private away from the main pool area.Magnificent well kept grounds with all rooms facing the ocean. We highly recommend and will return. You do need a car though as the hotel is placed a distance away from everywhere but we loved the serenity and extensive grounds.

First off let me start by saying, yes the place needs more work , But it has its good points too such as the nylon pool excellent staff , great drinks and wonderful vbyz as they say. We dined at the pub which was also great. Great staff . We would like to commend Kevin for his service. The front desk team was also very attentive to our every needs. The bellmen were also amazing. We dined at Kalina had few hiccups but the experience was also good , We like to commend Emmanuel and Amoyah for their service . Great variety of wines , beautiful ambience. Certainly last but not least the Pembois Buffet at morning was the best by far for our trip , Wide variety of food , Great omelettes , We would like to commend Trevor on his eggs, the best I ever had. Staff tend to our every needs. But we like to give special thanks to Pamela for being the best and making our trip great , she tended to our every needs and lead that morning team with style .Petrina stand out to us she made sure that my husband and I got our every needs with a welcoming smile .She’s also very quick and has good memory , at lunch at the Sallaka Grill she remembered our order and our preference of drink.Khadijah was also gem. Reneuisa great drinks at the bar and great service .I would like commend everyone on that breakfast team . My stay was marvelous. Hoping to be back very soon .

We stayed at The Magdalena Grand for two weeks January’24. Flew from U.K. with British airways. I went with an open mind after reading the reviews on here. I have to say I do think it is underrated on here. Check in was nice & quick fortunately after such a long flight & the time difference, making it an extremely long day. We were originally given a ground floor room but we wanted an upper room for the beautiful views. This was sorted by Lisa after a couple of days thankfully as those views I could watch all day. We watched the sunrise every morning beautiful. The rooms were ok. They had everything you needed. Kettle with tea/coffee/sugar/dried milk replenished each day. Bathroom with bath & shower over bath, toiletries replenished each day if needed. Mini fridge, but nothing in it… you get your drinks from the relevant bars & fill up yourself. We use to get what bottle drinks we wanted at breakfast & pop them in there. We also got fresh milk at breakfast & left in our fridge. If you drink coffee, they use Nescafé instant, so you may want to bring your own. Our maid the first week done a grand job, did notice when they changed over for a few days. If you need extra clothes hangers just ask. Food Our first morning in the buffet I was really impressed, with several things… the buffet where the food is all on offer was so well presented, clean tongs with each different food, no spilled food dregs around the dishes, chef’s checking temperatures of food on display, good selection to choose from. That is how it was throughout our holiday, wether it was for buffet breakfast, lunch or dinner, the food was never repetitive & we were there for 14 nights. I must include my husband is the fussiest foodie ever & normally always moans about the food. Not here, no complaints at all, so that says a lot in itself. A big Thankyou to all the chefs, the food was lovely, i did make a point of saying to the chefs while I was there what a great job they are doing. The a la cart restaurants were both lovely too & beautifully presented as was the bar food. Oh & afternoon tea, cookies were yummy. Pools Two pools. One bigger one, also pool bar. Smaller pool down the opposite end. Beach. I knew the beach wasn’t going to be the best as on the Atlantic side & I’d seen reviews on it. (We chose this resort for the golf course) I was actually pleasantly surprised as when the tide is out it’s actually quite nice & you can take a nice long walk if you wish. It could be made more inviting if they put a little work into it, yes the tractor went on every morning to clear rubbish that washes up from Venezuela, there is no seaweed, but they seem to have a pile of rubbish at the far end of the beach. Around eight sun-loungers, although most days we were the only two on beds in the beach. Staff All the staff are friendly, professional & will always try & help you. Golf This is why we chose this hotel. My husband said it was a good course & enjoyed playing on it. There are Caymans in the big lakes on the course although he never saw them. We met people that did. A couple of niggles which if they sorted would move the hotel up a notch I’m sure. Bars all closed at 11pm. Fridge in room could be stocked.. signing for everything… Yes The service at times is slow, but no biggie as on holiday & not really any different to any of our previous Caribbean holidays. Put some work into the beach. Another plus when we were there, NO MOSQUITOES! Result, I’m am normally eaten alive so that was a big bonus. We used Teds sunshine tours, we booked an individual island tour & our guide/driver for the day was Jonathan who was a great guy, took us where we wanted to go, drove safety, told us all we needed to know. I would definitely recommend this hotel & Tobago which is a beautiful country.

The staff are the friendliest ever! OK, so there are a few maintenance issues and Tobago is reliant on what the ferry arrives with each day, but this is such a lovely place to be, who cares? - "chilled" at its most productive, you'll go home with a whole new attitude towards life!!

We had a fantastic time on Tobago and the Magdalena was a great hotel to stay. Very comfortable, wonderful friendly staff and I have to say the food in the different restaurants was excellent. We particularly enjoyed their 'Local cuisine' buffet night. It wasn't particularly busy when we stayed, so lots of space and room around the pool and in the restaurants. My only criticism would be that the booking system for the restaurants is rather quirky and a little inflexible as often we couldn't get a table at a time we wanted but when you went to the eat there were plenty of empty tables. Also, it would be nice if a bar stayed open beyond 11pm, seems a little early to shut in a hotel, not that I want to drink late every night, but to have the option would be good. Most hotels I've stayed in don't shut the bar until the residents go to bed. Small issues but it could improve things. Overall though, the hotel was a great place to stay for its friendliness, location and cuisine. I'd go there again.

We stayed on the 27th of January. Excellent customer service. The supervisor at the breakfast station was very warm and friendly. I think her name was Pamela or Pam. The Manger of the day was also very accommodating. Pools were clean and the environment was well kept.

One of the best Hotel staff I have ever come across, they could not do enough for you so pleasant Kevin, Petrine, Diamond Lisa, are just a few who stood out all the reception staff. Food was very good, a little more variety at breakfast would have been good. Hotel grounds where very clean and they are doing some upkeep on the buildings, Pool bar could do with a little more attention on stock. But had a fantastic time would go back.
