From the warm welcome through to the time taken by everyone to try and help us and make us feel at home right though to the following day when we were helped with the onward activities we felt very special and privileged.

Everything about our four day visit was wonderful. A beautiful spacious room and luxurious bath, magnificent meals, personal attention from a wonderful staff, the art collection displayed throughout the hotel and grounds. The hotel had booked a breathtaking tour of the Cinque Terre for us, and arranged a personal tour of art-rich Pietrasanta, including behind-the-scenes in artists' studios and workshops.Thank...

We stayed for two nights as a starting point for visiting CINQUE TERRE as we couldn't find a hotel in the five towns we were intrigued enough to stay at. We found the service at Il Bottaccio without exception to be excellent. David, in particular, was delightful and hospitable. His knowledge of the area is superb and he is happy...

What a wonderful stay : very nice and helpful staff , delicious food (especially the filet and the lobster) and a beautyful room. We enjoyed dining on the terrasse. We were pleasantly surprised to be able to charge our Tesla at the hotel. Really looking forward coming here again.

Highly recommended. The facilities, the food, the staff all worked to make our stay one of the best on our trip. A good location for visiting Carrara, Pietrasanta, and the coast towns. Chef Nino and incredible. The crudo is exquisite, and the wine list is impressive.

Charming and cozy property in the old olive mill for a romantic stay. Well preserved, charming details, excellent restaurant, worth a separate visit (try boar). Sea is within 10 minutes drive, but I am pretty sure you will choose to stay inside. Royal Suite in the old mill is a piece of art by itself.

The hotel is built around a 16th century olive, grape pressing mill. If you are lucky, you will get the Royal Suite that retains the perfectly preserved original press....it is awesome. If do not have this room, the staff will try to get you in for a look....it is well worth it and do not miss the wooden water wheel...

This is an oasis in a working town where you'd never expect to find such a gem. But the trip is well worthwhile. The property is a converted mill, exquisitely redone with a highly sensitive aesthetic touch. We stayed in a large jr suite, the top floor of the main building. Service was exceptional. Breakfasts were superb although pricey (15-28...

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in May 2015. We were basically the only ones there and it was wonderful. We felt like we were guests in a home, not a hotel. I highly recommend the cooking class. It was great to sit, watch, and learn in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The pool is odd and...

The service here was simply fantastic. Rooms are very well appointed. And the food was very good across all meals. The chef went out of his way to cater to specific tastes and needs for the kids. We were a family of 7 and they definitely went out of their way to take care of us.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Il Bottaccio is an elegant hotel and a superb restaurant created around a seventeenth century water-powered olive mill transformed into an oasis of refinement and serenity. This aristocratic rural retreat stands isolated in the hills of Montignoso, enjoying both the reflection of the Mediterranean Sea and the peace of Apuanian Alps. The village is overlooked by the impressive ruins of the Aghinolfi Castle, masters of this county in 1202. The Hospitality provided by the Bottaccio to its gourmand travellers matches the quality of its cuisine. The freedom of the guests and the respect for their habits and privacy is paramount. Large spaces with open views on the greenery complement the very large private suites, whose name is different for each one of them, as well as different is the character of the atmosphere. These are spacious, individually furnished and cared for in every minute detail. The 18th century pieces dotted in the suites sensually blend with prestigious contemporary furnishing. Il Bottaccio successfully blends the charm of a country mansion with the pleasure of refined catering and the luxury of absolute peace. ... more   less
