It's a beautiful setting but we got the feel that the lodge might be on a downward spiral and could either use a change in management or some capital infusion to make the necessary upgrades to truly provide an exemplary guest experience. I did read that there was an ownership change in 2019. I think Mosaic Lagoon Lodge would struggle to get 3 stars at the moment. Our room: The back door didn’t lock; the safe didn’t work; the second battery-powered lantern didn’t work; it smelled damp and musty (not like other properties with thatched roofs where we’ve stayed); there were “army worms” everywhere; and the snack biscotti looked like it had been in there for months. It just needed some spit and polish. NOTE: They did fix the backdoor by locking it permanently. We were in Cabin 5. A miniscule view of the lagoon but mostly the brush. It’s also very loud. We could hear every car/truck/ATV come in and the generator running, as well as every word the employees said in the parking lot. The first night/day: Went to dinner the first night and they had the doors open (no screens) in the dining area. There were swarms of mosquitos inside/outside. We left dinner early it was so miserable. The power went out right after dinner but came back on. However, around midnight the power went out until they brought a generator right before breakfast. The room was so hot/humid, and we couldn’t open the windows because there are no screens on any of the windows or doors to keep the mosquitos out. No one ever came to us to apologize and explain what the problem was. The next day they turned off the generator until it was lunch or dinner. A little communication would have gone a long way. NOTE: It does appear that there was some fault in the electrical line serving the lodges in the area. Activities: Their activities left a lot to be desired. Each activity is 45 minutes long (if that), then you come back to the lodge and sit. The main guide wasn’t very good at all. Nice enough but very rehearsed. The process for scheduling an activity was very weird. You couldn’t decide anything until that morning or afternoon, you tell the guide what you want to do (he doesn’t offer any options), then he goes and “gets permission” from the manager, he comes back and knocks on your door, and tells you what time you can go (usually within 15 minutes). The quad-biking was less than stellar. The bikes (ATVs) looked like they hadn’t been serviced in years. The visors were filthy and hadn’t been cleaned in months. Of course, my ATV wasn’t working right so we had to head back from that early. No apologies, no offers to go back out. We knew we were going to have one day of rain and we wanted to go into the town of Hermanus. We tried to get this scheduled the day before. They wouldn’t do it until that morning, and then they acted like it was an Act of Congress to get that done. Our guide that day was Lloyd. He was great! Apparently, we stayed too long in town (past our allotted hour) and the manager was waiting for us at the gate. The food/restaurant: The dinners were amazing. Chef Maria is a star! The cold breakfast was subpar. They put out granola, yogurt and a small fruit plate out that looked like it was meant to serve one person. On one occasion, there wasn’t even anyone in the restaurant lodge to serve breakfast when we came in – sat there for 15-20 minutes. Thank goodness there was hot breakfast too. Asked for white wine one night, they didn’t have any chilled. Had to wait 15-20 minutes. The snacks they put out during the day in jars: Hard-as-rock marshmallows, hard candy and chocolates in wrappers. The manager: It took her two days to introduce herself to us. Never asked how our stay was going. Got the feeling she didn’t really want to know. Never asked how our stay was when we left. The employees seemed intimidated by her. They have to ask her permission for almost everything. She seemed to manage from her desk in the Curio. Hardly ever saw her out and about (except when she was waiting at the gate). Overall, Mosaic just lacked the polish all around to be positioned as a luxury lodge.

We arrived the weekend of a historic rain storm. Our whale watching tour (through an outside company was canceled) but our guide took us to Hermanus to watch from the shore. Vitalis found whales despite the rough surf! The staff was amazing .., they handled all the storm related issues so well…extended power outages ( the generator saved the day), road closures and guests like us who couldn’t leave! Hats off to Johanna and her staff — they went above and beyond to make our stay fantastic. The food was great and the service excellent. The main lodge was cozy and we enjoyed meeting the other guests!

This was a fantastic experience! Jo-Anne and the staff at Mosaic treated us like family, the service was beyond great, the food was gourmet, and the scenery was wonderful! I would highly recommend staying here if you live in South Africa and need a getaway or want to make it part of your South African itinerary.

very friendly and very atmospheric. the road was a lot of mud, but they worked hard on that. Showering outside as an extra option with that view was great. Food was delicious. Even in rainy and winter months it is great

Thank you for your review. We really did have a wet winter and very thankful to the roadworkers for all their hard work in maintaining the road despite all the rain. Happy to hear that you enjoyed your time with us and showering outside although very brave in winter really is an experience. The Mosaic Team

This was the perfect spot to kick back and be surrounded by nature. We were able to go on a nature hike and saw a Cape Cobra snake (very exciting) and learn about the weaver bird. A beautiful setting and wonderful staff.

We had a wonderful time. The staff at Mosaic were attentive and accommodating. Ours rooms more than comfortable, meals were amazing as were the activities offered. We had so much fun the day we opted to take off on the quad bikes. I only wish we had more time to chill in this spectacular lodge.

A lovely lodge hidden away under the canopy of the bush trees that you find along the lagoon. Very friendly staff and service minded always looking after you needs and wishes. We stayed with an all inclusive offer as well for activities which was fantastic. Fun drive to the coast line for whale watching with sundowner. Quad biking in the outback from the lodge and delightful food. To recommend is also their SPA that has good massage and treatments. Hope to be back soon again.

We added this to the end of our trip after experiencing some Safari's. I am surprised at the glowing reviews as we felt this place was rather run down. It's very rustic and one of the rooms smelled very musty and damp - it was pretty bad. I caution you to be careful what time of year you go - it was a bit cold when we went and the wood stove fire kept going out at night. Also, be careful with this place if you are not a sound sleeper. It can get really loud with the wind at night. We did not sleep either night we were there because the wind was whipping so loudly it felt like we were in the middle of a hurricane. The meal portions were also very small and the menu very limited - you basically just eat whatever they decide to make for the night (they don't ask you)so if there is a type of food you don't like make sure to let them know upfront so they can cook you something alternative. Overall we just walked away with a feeling that this place wasn't doing that well. We always leave very nice tips but you could tell the staff was all over us to make sure we left a tip which sort of left us feeling a big weirded out. It's a beautiful area but I feel like this lodge might be going downhill and could either use a management change or some cash infusion for upgrades.

Had an absolutely outstanding time. The rooms are spectacular and the bathrooms with the soaking tub and indoor and outdoor showers are out of this world. The staff are incredible and extremely personable. The hike up the mountain is an absolute must; saw lepoard tracks that were less than one hour old! So many things to do with the ATV ride also another "must do". Could easily have spent a week there!!!!

The location is a little remote from Stanford. It is ideal for romantic couples who are happy to stay at the resort which is luxurious in a beautiful setting overlookig a lagoon and mountain. Your rooms are set in a rustic charm and a good size. Everything is included in the cost. Staff are very helpful. The lodge provides activities at 10 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon for about 45 minutes. These are a walk, quad bikes riding, kayaks or a trip to the beach whale watching. Spa facilities on site and books and board games available. Otherwise not much happens. Perhaps a TV in a common area would be good. A tea towel in room would be helpful and we felt the lighting in room wasn't adequate.

Dear Janine It was such a pleasure to meet and host you at Mosaic Lagoon Lodge. Thank you for your review, we do offer a variety of activities at the lodge as you have mentioned as well as mountain bikes, boat cruise and wine tasting. We do not have TV's in the rooms but there is a TV in the main Lapa area which guests can at any time request to watch a certain sport game or news. Thank you for your suggestion on the tea towel and lighting in the rooms. We hope that you will visit us again. The Team and Mosaic Lagoon Lodge
