Travellers' Choice
One of Melrose's strongest features is without doubt its location, with exquisite view of an enormous garden lying in 4,000 square meters. Right opposite the main entrance of Melrose Hotel you can find the Venetian archdiocese and in its centre there is a small temple of the 16th-17th century. In the churchyard there are a lot of archaeological findings on display which have been discovered during recent excavations. Not only is Melrose Hotel on the borders of Skopelos' mainland but it is also in close proximity (just 800m) to the central port, the taxi and bus station from where you can go to the most popular beaches of the island like Stafilos, Agnontas, Panormos, Kastani and other.

Great fully equipped super clean apartments. Great hosts Maria and Georgios . Great sons Gianni and the future manager 10 year old Alexandros with his excellent PR skills . Great breakfast brought to your room on a stainless steel trolley by a kind , caring , polite Gianni wearing a face shield . Great huge garden , peace and quiet perfect to relax . Fabulous badly needed holiday after lockdown . We have tried the rest and thankfully found the best for us .

The Melrose gets a top recommendation in the Rough Guide and it's easy to see why. In a quiet location but still in easy walking distance of the travertines this lovely hotel is a great place to stay. I would recommend an overnight stop as Pamukkale is a fair old distance from most of the other tourist places you might be coming from. The travertines and ruins at Hierapolis bizarrely are only rated 2 star in the Michelin guide but are definitely "worth the journey( 3***) - To do the site justice plus a swim in the baths took us a full day - So to return to the hotel. What do you get? Well we got a big room about 4 x 5 metres - a balcony with views of the snow capped mountains (it was March) Marble tiled floor - comfortable wide - enormously wide - bed and a breakfast that you would need Olympic training to finish. It included (for your information) a normal breakfast plate with hard boiled egg - eggs done in a tomato sauce - an omelette - french toast (I hope you are keeping up) a plate of savory pastries - a plate of four different cakes - bread - jams honey etc etc - Eat all that and you are "a finer man than me" ...So I must also mention all of the kind and wonderful staff - really good English is spoken. Because we were out of season we ate at the Melrose View just up the road - but they offered lifts back after our meal. So a top recommendation from two seasoned travellers in Turkey.

Warmly welcomed at the main door by the young owner Maria. After 40 years holidaying in Greece many times a year in good to very good hotels hand on my heart our stay in MELROSE was the best. a ) Manicured lawns ,exotic plants and trees tended daily by Georgios with passion and great respect for his land. b ) Huge immaculate rooms , no expenses spared on the top quality furniture ,beds ,pillows etc . A lot of thought has been put into these studios to ensure everything you could possibly need and more is provided to help you have a holiday to remember. c ) Gourmet homemade breakfast by Maria , room serviced at the time of your choice. Here it was a quality fulfilling breakfast not quantity ( like buffets ) . Not forgetting the cheerful young Maria who brought it to the room . d ) Location is excellent too , 5 mins on foot to the centre , shops, restaurants , supermarkets . Excellent beaches less than a 10 min drive . Arrived as strangers and left feeling like a distant family member. I would highly recommed MELROSE , Perfection by 2 Perfectionists .

Wonderful hosts (thank you Maria, George and family!!!), a greatly maintained garden and its ideal location make these apartments the place to stay. Rooms are generous, quite well equipped (could have a better stove though). Breakfast changes every day and is served in the room. Skopelos port with restaurants, shops is max 10’ away and some of the nicest beaches are within 5-15’ driving distance (Glysteri, Kastani/Milia, Limnonaki). Enjoy the property after dinner, walk in the soft grass and enjoy the candle lights all over the property - simply beautiful!
