You need to understand what you are going to get when you stay at Vogamari. The accommodations are very simple. But, they work perfectly well if your objective is to achieve close to perfect relaxation in what we think is the best beach location on Formentera. Everything in our unit worked fine. The place was clean, the cleaning crew did a good job twice a week, the bathroom was modern, the bed comfortable and the kitchen/refrigerator/cooker worked just as they should have. The only upgrade I could suggest would be to replace the small seating unit that converts into a bed for a child with a more comfortable small couch (maybe that could pull out into a bed?). There is no television, but we thought that was a plus as we went there the relax and disconnect. The biggest thing you get at Vogamari is location, location, location. There are an abundant number of great beaches on Formentera, but we think Playa Migjorn is the best, and we know that the perfect long sandy strand that was 100 yards from our apartment's door is the best section of Migjorn. It was windy on Migjorn one day of the time were there so we elected to go to the opposite side of the island to Playa Llevant, which is also a wonderful beach. The drive over to Llevant was not a long one since the island is small, but it was a wake up call to deal with the crowded parking conditions there, and then to hike from where the car was parked to the beach. It made the 3 minute walk from the Vogamari apartment to the Migjorn beach seem extra heavenly. If you are inclined to naturism, the beach as Vogamari is a good choice. When you walk down the steps from the boardwalk onto the beach, the best thing to do is turn left and go maybe 50 yards. From that point on the beach will be at least half naturists (at least until the Italian invasion in July and August). If you turn to the right, you will still find a mix of nudes and textiles, but it will be more predominantly textile. Also, when you turn to the right, you'll find beach chairs under thatched shades for daily rental. There are two beach restaurants within easy walking distance of the Vogamari bungalows. The Vogamari restaurant is immediately before you get to the beach (we've seen other reviews indicating that noise from this restaurant was occasionally bothersome but we didn't find that to the be the case). This restaurant is usually hopping at both lunch and dinner. If you walk to the beach and turn right on the boardwalks you'll find the Forodot restaurant, also immediately facing the beach, about 10 easy minutes down the boardwalk. Both places offer well-prepared beach fare, with a heavy focus on fish. There are, of course, many other restaurants within a 15 minute drive from Vogamari. I'd suggest renting a car if staying at Vogamai, although the adventurous could probably make do with a motorbike. Parking in areas set aside for bungalow residents is convenient. In short, we really enjoyed our stay and we'll be back. Please don't compete with us for reservations there!

We are absolutely delighted to receive such a kind, thoughtful and useful review and all of us at Team Astbury are grateful that this guest has taken time out to write it. I will have a look into replacing the seating unit but the next level up does involve an increase in the size if it includes a bed to a point where it may take up too much room, let's see, thanks for the suggestion. Also, thank you for your positive comments about the TV (or lack of it!). I don't want our guests to be disturbed by the neighbour's TV and, as most people these days have their own devices containing downloads of their favourite holiday viewing and music, for the moment, I am holding out against installing TV's. We are so lucky to be on such a beautiful beach and the ease of access to several excellent restaurants make Voga Mari a brilliant place to stay. You mentioned the Voga Mari Restaurant and Es Codol Forodat but don't forget the legendary Blue Bar is only a short walk away and the whole island is within easy reach. We always do our best to look after our guests and when the work, planning and effort of doing so is rewarded by such a positive TripAdvisor report, we can't help but be anything than very proud ... thank you SunLvr94, we hope to see you next year! John

Easy to book through Asburys, easy travel. Leave Gatwick early and be on the beach after lunch. Apartments are small but all you need as most times are spent outside. Car park below is a slight disadvantage but you can still spend all day and walk to the beach au naturel. Would recommend it to anyone who wants to forget city life for a short while

I loved everything about Voga Mari. The location, being far away from the main road makes it an ideal place to relax and unwind. The bungalows are modestly furnished but perfect for a get away. You have an amazing view of the water right in your front yard. I would love to go back soon! This will be my go to place from now on.

Thank you so much for your kind words, we try so hard to achieve this response and, when it comes, all the hard work of Team Astbury is made to feel worthwhile. This winter we are undertaking a huge reformation of the bungalows, installing walk-in showers and a complete re-design of the interiors to make them bright and modern. We really look forward to welcoming you and our other guests, old and new, to our beautiful island and the lovely Voga Mari and Miguel Marti bungalows this summer.

My wife and I stayed here from 12 to 17 September. The location is a drop of heaven on this earth. We just feel so so relaxed here. Absolutely beautiful. Perhaps some things in and around the bungalow need a little attention.

We would like to thank Kevin for taking the time to write a second review on Voga Mari and we are delighted that he loves the island and finds it such a relaxing place for his holiday, far away from his own beautiful country, South Africa. He has been very kind in not mentioning a mix up which involved him being disturbed by new guests who mistakenly thought that they were staying in his bungalow. We have taken steps to ensure that this doesn't happen again, sorry Kevin. We are very aware that the bungalows and the estate itself are in constant need of care and improvement. We have a renovation programme planned for this winter to up-grade the bathrooms and kitchens in some bungalows as well as improving lighting, furniture and equipment. The painting cycle will see the insides done this year, the outside having been completed last year. The gardens, paths and surrounding area always pose a challenge with the bungalows being set amongst the sand dunes and being so close to the sea. Having laid new paths we are now focussing on the plants and gardens as well as cutting back the trees to ensure that the sea views are maintained without taking away some of the welcome shade from the mid-day sun! Every year my team get together to suggest ways of making our guests more comfortable and increasing the enjoyment of their stay at Voga Mari: terrace shades, welcome bags, new cooker hobs, new air conditioning units, additional kitchen equipment and more are all planned for next year. We will continue to strive to make sure that anyone who trusts us with their holiday will find that their choice of Voga Mari will have been a good one, as I hope it is in any of our properties on this beautiful island.

We stayed first 7 nights at Ses Platgetses and then had to move for 5 nights to Vogamari room 10. The location is beautiful yet very remote so come prepared. Transportation is required in order to visit a supermarket or the island of course. The Vogamari rest. is in front and very average. Plus lots of noise over the weekend with big groups visiting. The beach - stunning and clothing optional. The rooms are basic, bed comfortable, wifi and great views. But everything is decorated with IKEA so to call it modern..... We enjoyed our stay but next time would prefer to stay in Es Calo, better beach and best restaurant around plus supermarket nearby. Astbury company well recommended with great staff! Thanks Shereen, Elaine and Lynda!

I'm so sorry I haven"t replied to you before now Ritchy, my reply to your review slipped through my net, even though I read it at the time. Thank you very much for your constructive comments and for taking the time to pass on your experience of Voga Mari and Es Calo. We are lucky with Voga Mari in that they are in such a fabulous location with their unrivalled sea views and comfortable accommodation. We do recommend transport and the nearest shop is only 10 minutes away in Es Calo, so, although the bungalows are situated in a beautiful dune location, we don't think they are 'isolated' as such, just away from the busy areas. The Voga Mari Restaurant is not ours so my comments are not biased and I consider it to be among the best on the island. Run by a local family, the chef, Toni, is an expert in traditional Formentera cooking and represents the island whenever they want to showcase local gastronomic dishes to official visitors or abroad in travel exhibitions. They are professional, friendly and excellent value and I am sorry if, on your visit, they didn't live up to your expectations. They don't normally get big groups visiting, occasionally they may host a First Communion or wedding as they are highly regarded by the island residents, so if you were disturbed by one of these events this was a pity. Whilst it is true that we use Ikea design furniture, we don't see this as not being modern. We are very careful what we select and make sure that everything is well maintained and up-graded when necessary. I'm really pleased you enjoyed your stay at Es Calo, these were our first properties when we started 36 years ago and the owners, Isabel and Pepe have done a great deal of work in reforming, up-grading and maintaining their bungalows, apartments and houses to a high standard over the years. The village is a delight and anyone who stays there can't fail to have a lovely holiday. I have passed on your thanks to Shereen, Elaine and Lynda and we will all be delighted to welcome you back to our beautiful island any time. With best wishes from the entire Astbury Formentera team.

Anything that could be construed as negative in my comments is meant to inform, not to criticize. Staying here was hard for me. I loved being almost right on a gorgeous beach where no one bothers you to sell you anything or about what you might not be wearing. The island is beautiful, and the people are relatively friendly. Restaurants are excellent, if not inexpensive. The bungalow was very clean and comfortable with fantastic sea views (I had #7, whose terrace I think is in the first picture). Here are things I would have found helpful to know: - The restaurant of the same name on the property is not affiliated with the bungalows. If they are booked for a private event, they feel no obligation to serve you. While they are open from 11 until 11, they don't serve dinner before 8. The nearest village is 2 km away. Therefore, buy everything you need to feed yourself or rent transportation, bearing in mind people drive like fiends and the roads are not well-lit. There are only three or four restaurants on the beach within easy walking distance, and all are not always open. - While the people at Astbury Formentera are very nice and super-helpful in booking, when they say "self-catering," they mean it. The only paper product provided is toilet paper. So you need to bring paper towels, plastic wrap, spices, or anything else of that sort. While there is a thoughtfully-provided clothes line, there are no beach towels. You can rent them for €5 each, which allows you to change each one for a fresh one once. No wash machine. No wash cloths. - The hot water heater is tiny. On the plus side, it heats again quickly, but you won't get a long, hot shower either way. The water pressure is great, as is the bathroom lighting. But don't do dishes and expect enough hot water for a shower. - The property is loud, and the bungalows are not private. I can't imagine trying to cope in high season because of the scooter noise. The restaurant is between the beach and the bungalows, as is the parrking lot for it and that part of the beach. The garbage bins are in the lot. This means you hear people in the restaurant (even if it's not the wedding dinner that goes past 2 a.m.), the kitchen noises, the ventilation system, the cars, the scooters, and the garbage truck that comes before 5 a.m. If everyone is enjoying their terrace in the evening, you hear guests crunching their chips (there is a lovely welcome package that includes chips, wine, and a large bottle of water, which you need because the tap water is desalinated but not very well) or spilling and then cleaning up their wine, for example. Depending on who is sitting where, they may be visible. - There is wifi, when it works. If you must be reachable, make other arrangements as there is no phone in the room and no manager on site 24/7. Most of the time, I really liked being here. I just had a harder time doing it than I would have liked for a vacation.

Staying here was a total pleasure, peaceful, beautiful views, exactly what to you to get away from busy life. Arriving at the bungalow is easy, taxis from the port around £21 euro, all the taxis' have the same rate on a printed tariff sheet so you will know exactly what you're going to pay before hand. There's one road that leads the length of the island, so check out things you pass as its a simple walk (but maybe long) walk, or cycle back to them.. Then checking in we didn't meet anyone the jay was waiting for us in the door of our bungalow, you will be advised of number prior to arriving. We did have a number to contact if any issues, also if you arrive earlier that standard check in you can call, and they advise on whether your bungalow is ready.. The island is so beautiful and green that a lot of areas are protected as natural reserve so the surrounding land around the bungalows is all partitioned off which means even more peace and quiet.. The bungalows are simple, double door opening into a small veranda with comfy chairs to relax in, sofa bed in lounge with dining table and a couple of wicker chairs, then a fully equipped kitchen. You have a good sized bedroom with double door again, opening onto a nice space with table and chairs, then a good sized bathroom, shower over bath. You will be greeted with a bag of goodies water, crisps, and vino plus all the info you need for your stay on the island. This is more than sufficient for a lovely back to basics relaxing holiday. There are places to eat along the beach which is beautiful to walk along.. And I would definitely take a walk along to the next village, Es calo which has a couple of supermarkets and lovely views and restaurants. There is a bus service from the main road you can catch it's not particularly on time, if you don't mind having a little wait it takes you san ferran this has a deli you have to try if you visit formentera it's the best place I've ever been to for wine tapas and service. Family ran to a very high standard, or you can go to to St francesco (or a taxis is €15) this is the main town and is so sweet, shops are beautiful and the buildings are a sight you will appreciate. Very impressed with this little find and look forward to returning to the bungalows.

Fabulous position, quiet, some have great views no 5 especially. Simple but very comfortable accomodation. If you want a prime position, quiet, near beach and great restaurants , this is perfect. To explore island you do need bike or car but these apartments are in a very secluded and in beautiful spot. This is our 5 th year and we love it. The super market does deliver and the beach is very close and very good.

We hired 2 bungalows, one on top of the other, on the corner of the bungalows, giving us terraces that both looked out to sea. Booking, and the after service from Astbury Formentera (Lynda and Shereen), was incredible. The apartments have everything you need to have a comfortable and enjoyable stay, only lacking a barbecue...which would have made it perfect. And the Vogamari restaurant close by, offered the nicest food and friendliest service we had. Am looking forward to booking for next year...

We have stayed in these bungalows twice now and would return any time. The accommodation is basic but well appointed, very clean, well kept and comfortable. The setting is spectacular, practically on the beach. Which is just about private and very clean. You can go nudist if you want, nobody bothers about it. There is a barbacue for your use in a private seated area. Well worth a visit.
