Already some years ago, but I like my stay in Karpathos so much I write a first review anyway.
Alex Hotel is very simple, cheap, but friendly and well situated. The last is not unimportant in Greece. The hotel is near the beach, close to town but not in it. This means its quiet at night. There is a big clean pool and the rooms are small but allright. You will not be staying in your room in Karpathos, so I did not mind. The breakfast is good but also simple. Could be a bit better, but in Greece, it is about lunch, not breakfast.
The owners are greek and friendly. They speak amazingly good English on this island. From all the islands in Greece I have visited (about 10), this one I liked the best.

We stayed for one night in July 2013. On arrival at the hotel we had to hunt for some one to give us our key and show us our room as we arrived at 8.30 in the evening although we had told the hotel we would be arriving late. The young lady was very polite and helpful. The room was clean but very basic . At breakfast we where totally ignored by the owner / manager not even a hello . The staff sat in reception in full view of the guests and smoked and didn't give us the time of day breakfast was also very basic with not much choice.

nice hotel, very nice pool area, clean rooms in a beautiful garden... but you need to have some means of transportation....the beach is only 10 minutes by foot away, but you have to walk about 40 minutes to get to Pigadia... overall a very pleasant stay...

I spent one week at this hotel the second week of August. The experience was good. The hotel is not far away from Pigadia center, but it is highly suggested to rent a car, in order to discover the beautiful island rich of fantastic beaches.
The hotel is clean and the staff kind and friendly. It has a nice swimming pool, too.
Maybe the only aspect not so good, is the breakfast.
I recommend this hotel for couples who wish to visit the island using the car, who have no need to have lunch and dinner services. A good level between quality and cost.

My boyfriend and I just spent the week of August in this hotel. Very good solution for those like us who don't live in the hotel much and leave in the morning and return in the evening to enjoy the island to the fullest.
The rooms are spacious and clean (apart from the slightly small bathroom but whatever), a small terrace overlooking the swimming pool and lots of greenery and silence.
The hotel is close to the liveliest town of Karpathos (for those who want to go out in the evening it is better to stay in Pigadia).
The hotel is in a strategic position...not in the center but close...you can get there with a walk of up to half an hour in a quiet street or approach by car or scooter (there are parking lots).
The breakfast is good... there are cakes made by them, excellent Greek yogurt, bread and jams, fruit and something savory. There are no croissants but everything is simple but good.
There is a bar near the pool where you can also eat something... we had lunch there on the day of arrival while we were waiting for the car... they make homemade tsatsiki... the best food on the island.
The Alex hotel is an excellent compromise between quality and price for visiting the island
