Welcome to Kachere Kastle! After nearly eight years in the build, we are delighted to be open to welcome guests. We are located on a beautiful stretch of sandy beach, on the shores of Lake Malawi; approximately 30km south of Chintheche & 310km north of Lilongwe. We have 12 beautiful, airy & spacious en-suite rooms: six of which are centred around our large pool, & the rest face the lake. Four of the lake facing rooms are tower suites; each with their own lounge. The upper tower suites also have a balcony & a private roof terrace ... where you can sleep under the stars! The castle is centred around a large pool, that has a swim up bar ... there is also a full sized squash court on site, and we have many activities that are free for our guests to use; ranging from windsurfers for the active, to sunloungers for the chillers! Our restaurant offers a variety of delicious home cooked, European style dishes & we happily cater for dietary requirements (many of our dishes are already gluten free). We also have an extensive bar. Day guests are welcome to come for lunch, with a prior booking. We look forward to welcoming you in person. Oh! Did we mention the great campsite? Every group of campers has their own cooking prep area, flood- light, charging socket, basin with running water, barbecue and fire pit. Showers are hot and strong! Warm regards Russ & Kate

Our family with 2 teenagers stayed at Kachere Kastle for 3 nights.
We were really spoiled with lovely food and very nice and helpful hosts and staff - the whole place has a very pleasant atmosphere. We stayed in a family room by the swimming pool which consists of 2 large, comfy bedrooms next to each other, each room has its own bathroom. The swimming pool is of a good size with clear and clean water, and a bar! and there is a large and beautiful sandy beach outside the hotel. The hotel is beautifully situated in the landscape with a lovely, huge mango tree at the end of the pool. We enjoyed a boat ride in the sunset, that gave us a great view of the green hills around and behind the hotel. We also visited a local shop just before the entrance to the hotel, Blessings foodmarket, where we had a cold drink in a nice garden. Thank you very much for a wonderful time at your lovely hotel!

Very private lodge with high customer standards. The local staff are clearly highly trained in providing top costumer service, they are polite and service oriented. We arrived during the quiet season so felt like a private, exclusive getaway with a clean pool and empty beach. Very nice rooms, cleaned daily, and camping space was fully equipped with bathroom/shower/individually cooking area/nightly watchman. Always felt extremely safe and well cared for. The food is AMAZING. Presented as and tasted similar to a top end restaurant.

We’ve heard about this place for years but finally decided to visit this year. And it was very well worth it! We stayed in the upper tower suite which was spacious with lovey views over the lake. And a rooftop bed under the stars if you fancy. The meals we ordered from a menu each day and they were absolutely fantastic and the desserts divine! The pool was in immaculate shape and is a good size. The beach is very private & quiet except for the sound of the waves. Kate and Russ were very kind and hospitable and provided good conversation. Definitely if you have not visited it’s a must along the northern lakeshore!

My family and I stayed for Christmas and it was completely perfect. Couldn’t have wished for a better experience . Wonderful setting on a peaceful beach, with a great pool and lovely restaurant.
The owners Russell and Kate have created the most thoughtful small hotel you could imagine. The family room we stayed in was 2 interconnecting rooms with 2 bathrooms and was very spacious. Extra lighting is provided for the predictable power cuts, which had no impact us whatsoever. Food is delicious (& plentiful). All staff completely delightful, accommodating and remarkably tolerant of my children. Plus they arranged lake trips for us, built a fire on the beach, and had a roof top cinema. Father Christmas came to visit the children after our full Christmas dinner (cooked impeccably during a power cut) too. All for an extremely reasonable price.

When I asked my 8 year old what she’d rate her Christmas at Kachere Kastle out of 10 - she replied ‘20, no actually 100’. Thank you Russell and Kate for making my children’s year.

Our family stayed at Kachere Kastle in December 2020, and we had an amazing time. We stayed in a family room, with two large bedrooms and two bathrooms. The rooms were spacious, and the beds were great (proper frames and great mattresses/pillows).

The beach, situated along side a local fishing village, is beautiful. We enjoyed walking on the beach, swimming and kayaking in the lake, and lounging by/in the pool.

Kate and Russell and their staff did a great job of personalizing our visit. They arranged a scavenger hunt for the kids; a snorkeling trip; and, a movie on the roof of the castle, under the stars!

And we can’t end this review without mentioning the food… We have lived in Malawi for the last six years, and hands-down the food at Kachere Kastle is the best food you’ll find anywhere in Malawi (and the mixed drinks are right up there too).

We will definitely return to Kachere!

A lovely place that gives you an exclusive feel and very kids friendly. They have a great pool, serve lovely food and the staff is very friendly including the owners who run the place. I would definitely visit again. We visited at the peak of hot season just before the rains so the rooms were quite hot, The fan in the room was not enough, an extra fan would have helped. I totally recommend this affordable luxury.

We love Kachere Kastle. It sounds a little hoaky from the name and the pictures on the website, but actually it is very intimate, pleasant, and with a fantastic little stretch of beach in untouched Malawi. The waves at Lake Malawi here make you feel like you are at the ocean. The rooms are super nice without being ostentatious, great mosquito nets, all around a little pool. They have windsurfs for the non-windy season and we played with their boogie board. Food is delicious and the place is a great stay. It is a bit of a trek from Lilongwe (4 and a half hours if you take the direct road) but well worth the trip. It is a bit pricey, especially for Malawi, but a great treat. We have gone twice already!

My daughter and I spent a wonderful few days at the Kastle! Special spot with attention to detail from all staff and the mangers. Food was excellent and varied. Yummy to find my favourite Vietnamese Bun Cha in rural Malawi. Camping spot is in a grove of bamboo which is protective. Gorgeous views while you cook. Thanks so much to Mike and Linda for treating us like Queens in the Kastle

Spacious rooms overlooking either the lake or the pool (which has a pool bar). Friendly and responsive staff. Great place for not only adults, but also kids. Wide open beach, with clean sand. Kate and Russel were incredibly warm and welcoming. We can't wait to get back and try out the tower rooms!

Impressive Kastle in picturesque surroundings.
The only resort in the bay. Expansive beach and clear lake water.
Large rooms - though very hot at this time of year. Rooms were not serviced during our stay. Laundry can be done if required.
Excellent cuisine. Staff friendly and helpful.
Wonderful stay for family groups.
