Hotel Mathios Village earns praise for its professional service and exceptional cleanliness, with many guests appreciating the spotless rooms and well-kept grounds. The hotel's atmosphere is noted for its elegance and welcoming vibe, though it's not without its critics. While the rooms are generally celebrated for their comfort, a few visitors have commented on their size and mattress firmness.
The value proposition is seen as mixed, due to affordable dining options but some unexpected charges. The quieter location is popular once transportation is arranged, and amenities like the swimming pool and restaurant are well-regarded, despite some additional costs.

Detailed Reviews
We booked Mathios Village direct with the manager Kostas. When we arrived he kindly gave us an upgrade to a superior suite in light of our pending wedding ceremony on the Caldera.
The room was lovely and the door opened up straight onto the gorgeous pool/restaurant area. The hotel and grounds were spotless with beautiful flowers and plants situated all around. We enjoyed the breakfast every morning and could not fault the meals that we had in the restaurant. The rooms were cleaned and fresh towels provided most days by the friendly hotel staff. Vitalie and Vasilii who ran the bar and restaurant were great, friendly and always went above and beyond.
Kostas the manager was very helpful and gave us advice on car hire and places to visit. He arranged for ironing to be done in preparation for our wedding and wisely talked us out of hiring an ATV which we now know was sound advice. He always made a point of saying hello when we saw him around the hotel.
The hotel has a cosy atmosphere and the actual location in Akrotiri was perfect. A few small tavernas, bus stop just outside and a supermarket next door.
A few minor suggestions would be perhaps 'do not disturb signs' for the doors as the cleaners did come round quite early in the day. Also when the bar/restaurant is closed in the afternoon, guests should be permitted to eat snacks and drinks around the pool, that they have bought from the supermarket or alternatively the bar/restaurant should remain open. These are just our suggestions and certainly would not stop us from returning to Mathios Village in the future.
We met some amazing people who we now call friends. Thank you very much for an amazing holiday. We will be back soon.

This property is very highly recommended. As mother and daughter, we found the whole island very welcoming and this establishment very clean, friendly and the team always willing to go the extra mile. All were very professional but warm and friendly. This is a unknown gem.
The food at the restaurant was always fresh and catered for all tastes which as a vegetarian can sometimes be very limiting but not here. Smoothies and cocktails amazing. All very well priced.
Rooms were very spacious and clean with balcony so you could sit and relax outside. Also have a fridge and air con which we needed during the night as it was warm.
Kostas (general manager) arranged good value and reliable car hire, suggested good places to visit around the island and the best times to avoid the cruise liner influxes, booked volcano cruise and generally made our whole visit completely stress free. Good value for money.
When we return, we will be booking direct and asking for them to organise all excursions as I couldn’t fault a thing.

We were booked into Mathios Village by the tour company we were traveling with. What wonderful luck for us. This hotel felt like European luxury. The hotel is family operated and we were greeted by Kostas when we arrived. The hotel had been recently updated and the room looked brand new. There were USB charging ports in the room which is very handy if you don't have an outlet converter. Every family member and/or employee we encountered was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was plentiful with many choices. The pool and outside bar and dining area was always clean with a lot of lounge chairs and table seating. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant and the meal and service was excellent. The location is perfect for exploring if you are only walking and it is very close to the bus stop if you aren't interested in driving yourself. The Caldera beach is only a short walk before you are enjoying the black sand under your feet. The public buses are comfortable tour type buses, inexpensive and easy to navigate. Kostas will help with transfer arrangements, tours and rentals if needed which is a nice added benefit. We highly recommend staying at Hotel Mathios Village. Thank you to everyone at Mathios Village for making our last stay of our Greece vacation so wonderful.

The overall facilities, services of the hotel were disappointing.
Mathios hotel in Santorini was a ripe off, but then again most of the people on the island have the same approach.
Located on the north east side of the island it was impossible to visit anything without renting a car or a scooter.
The owner upgraded us from a standard room , which was appreciated but not really needed as we only used the room to sleep and take a shower.
We decided on a scooter but we ended up paying €145 for 3 days . We met other couples and they had rented the same capacity as us for only €70 with full insurance. Not sure why the big difference !
The breakfast was a joke and repetitive every day( boiled eggs ,tomatoes, cucumbers, sad ham and feta were the options along with cereals but you don’t travel to eat the same things we eat at home) not even the yogurt that was available was local ,store bought. Maybe think about changing the menu?
So annoying when people only think of making money without offering services.
The owner needs to learn to receive constructive criticism, otherwise you don’t progress.

First of all, from your style of writing you show negativity and the intention to criticize something without being true! When somebody books a room they see what is it and our hotel is not a ripe off as it is renovated every year. Oor rooms, bathrooms are newly renovated and everything is well kept. As cncerning the rent of the scooter, unfortunately you tell lies because the prices on the island are expensive and we offer a better price in our guests. You may find a cheaper moto in bad condition but without full insurance and small letters that in an acident you would pay a fortune!!so before say anything, learn about all these details. the breakfast now, again!!lies..there is a large variety of many things such us boiled eggs, kagiana which is a traditional greek dish made with eggs, tomato, homemade jams, honey, 2 kinds of cheese. 2 kindws of cold cuts, greek products like kapari, tomato, cucumber organic, cookies, cake and many others.ISo tyou had the opportunity to choose what to eat every day and not eat all together. Last but not least you are the person who goes somewhwre only to criticize and not to enjoy yourself. I receive reviews only to get better so you should start having positive thoughts, attitude and enjoy your life. Thank you.

Be aware.. you will have a great welcome if you hire a car or eat in the restaurant… otherwise the owners will be rude.. we were lied to several times.. we were told that buses are always full so if you want to see the island you had to hire a car… we didn’t have the money for this and two females to hire a car didn’t suit us especially as the roads are very steep and winding.. we asked about taxis but told hardly any on island yet another lie. I feel it is very irresponsible of the owner to give us this advice especially when I have never driven on the opposite side of the road..
I then asked if owner could book me a local restaurant to be then asked what is wrong with our restaurant and when are you eating in my restaurant… yet again trying to get us to spend more money..
My friend was particularly upset with the pushy manner and tried to walk away for me to be told my friend was rude..
I know his response will turn it around having seen other people have felt the same way we did. Sadly overall the hotel is really lovely with a nice pool but the drinks are totally over priced a water was 4 euros what a rip off.. so just proves the owners are out to get you to spend as much of your money as possible … and if you do they will be extra friendly as you have kept them happy.. otherwise expect a very rude, aggressive attitude which really spoilt our stay., BTW the buses are great and so cheap so no need for a car if you don’t want to drive.. bus stop right outside the hotel.. location isn’t great as not a lot around.. the only good thing was that we asked to change rooms as very steep ladder up to mezzanine sleeping area but although we were given another room we were made to feel that we should be so grateful…
So much potential but spoilt by the money grabbing owner.

Hello thank you for the lovely hotel you wrote but I need to reply to your letter I read your message and Iam really surprised with your review. First of all I am the only owner. there are not other owners..how you say it? Your reservation was in a traditional suite as it was your choice. When you arrived, you did not like it and you went to the reception to change the room. We were fully booked but the receptionist called me as i was not in the hotel, I arrived earlier to make the best for you. I changed all my plan to give you another room and you were very happy as you said at that time!! Then I offered you a map ,and gave information about the island. I did not press you , I gave my advice as I am in this business for 39 years. I am really sorry you wrote that we are expensive, our prices are the least expensive of all the places in SANTORINI. and please do not tell lies, the big bottle of water costs 2.5 euros but you bought sparkling water, which is more expensive. I did my best for you as I do with all my guest but sometimes some peopleare disgrateful. Think positive and please stop tell lies for everyone that does his job

This holiday was amazing.
Firstly I have to say I am 70++ and I was travelling with my granddaughter so many years difference. I did a little research and contacted Kostas via email before our departure. The driver was waiting for us on arrival, very good service. When we arrived we were given an upgrade, but there was only one bed (very nice room, but we needed two beds) this was very quickly sorted and we had the most lovely room next to the pool. I cannot compliment the cleaner enough, the room was immaculate and the beds were very comfortable with excellent controllable air conditioning.
I wanted to see some of the Island so we arranged with Kostas some very good trips. Some of these trips were offered cheaper on the internet, but it was worth paying a little extra knowing we were in good hands with a reliable driver. The boat trip was by far the best for me, I would definitely go again.
At breakfast there was always a good selection of both drinks and food.
Mostly we were out by lunchtime, but again the menu was pretty good, and I was delighted when the chef prepared some stuffed tomatoes for me which were not on the menu, they are a favourite dish of mine in Greece. Although our package came with an evening meal we did not always "eat in". However, when we did have the set meal it was acceptable. It might be a suggestion to have a board with details of what the daily set evening meal is, but the waiters would always find out for us. Both the waiters Vitali (probably incorrect spelling) was fantastic and recommended a lovely desert wine VinSanto which everyone should try.
There was not really a downside to this holiday other than the hundreds of steps (anyone with bad knees will understand) but this is Santorini and I survived.
The swimming pool was very clean and plenty of sun beds
Everyone works as a team in this hotel, often doing more than one job, the reception staff were very helpful, and the lending library was a bonus.
A suggestion would be to print out a little bit of information about the places we were taken to, history etc and things to look out for.
That said, Kostas was a fountain of information and very helpful.
I would totally recommend this hotel. Thank you to all the staff.

We have just stayed at Mathios Village for 4 nights and had a wonderful experience. The owner (Kostas) is very energetic and passionate about hospitality and will do everything to satisfy his customers. The rooms are very clean and authentic and the bed very comfortable. We had a great dinner the first night at the restaurant of the hotel. The location is perfect to visit the island if you are a family because it is very quiet but you can still travel easily around the island, for that you need to rent a car. Kostas will suggest you this option directly, don’t think twice.

We so much enjoyed our stay at Mathios Village in Santorini! It is a very warm family hotel. You notice it the minute you step inside. Great hospitality and very comfortable! Here they really take care of you. Whatever you need, everything can be arranged. The room we had was lovely with a balcony and view over the garden. Everywhere beautiful plants with coloured flowers. The housekeeping came every day to clean the room, Wifi you find everwhere even in the pool area. Lovely pool. Great restaurant with fantastic service, where The Mama cooks with all her heart and soul. I am so going to miss her Greek cooking. They also have their own wine, which tastes lovely! We had great advice for daily trips to do from Kostas, the general manager, who is a true gentleman. It was heart warming to be here and to discover the beautiful island Santorini. We recommend this place for everyone! We will miss this place! ❤️

This is one of the hotels that we stayed at as part of our Exoticca tour of Greece. The hotel itself was beautiful. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable and it was a great location to be able to walk to your choice of restaurants. We had breakfast every morning at the hotel and the food was fresh and the coffee hot. The towels were scratchy, definitely NOT soft....but they were clean. The proprietor was very proud of his establishment, but we felt that he was very abrupt and a little pushy. They make their own wine and he wanted to sell us some, but I felt that if he would have greeted our group with a little wine tasting upon our arrival he might have been more successful. There was no porter to help you with your luggage and you had to go up and down stairs to get to some of the rooms. Great location to catch the local bus, mini markets are very close.

+1
We had an amazing time staying at this hotel with our lovely host Kostas and his team. The hotel is impeccably clean, the beds are very comfortable and the rooms have air conditioning, there is also an onsite restaurant and swimming pool. This part of Santorini is quiet but very near two beaches. The Caldera beach is just a short walk away across the road with a taverna that has amazing views of the island, then you can also walk through Akrotiri to a second beach on the other side of the island. Breakfast was great, lots of different selections and I really recommend the spanakopita are delicious and as much coffee as you want. A big shout out to the room cleaners who do an amazing job. Every member of Kostas's staff is friendly and greet you with a smile and a "kalimera" everyday.
If you want a holiday away from crowds, but just 20mins from the capital and €1.80 on the bus, this place is for you. Akrotiri village is just a 5 minute walk away with traditional Greek tavernas that are so much cheaper than Fira. A supermarket for all your basic supplies is literally next door. We had an absolutely wonderful time I thoroughly recommend this little piece of paradise for singles or couples.

hello if you are hotel members there is no charge
I would let the hotel know - they are very accomodating and I’m sure there is provision for late arrivals.
Hi, it's a bit of a distance but some can walk (or stroll), the hotel owner will arrange a taxi for you if needed
There is a small grocery store directly next door to the hotel. Walking in the same direction is a couple of restaurants but most importantly is that there is a bus that conveniently stops adjacent to the hotel that can take to Fira or anywhere in town it also takes you pass the museum in Akrotiri and to the beach where you can get Alcoholic drinks.
