This was the most enjoyable place of lodging during the Coast-to-Coast walk. A charming house, with about 4 to 5 rooms for guests. The place immaculately clean, with nice-sized rooms, very nice bathroom and a common room for television and/or reading. Dinner can be ordered--and I highly recommend that you do so, as the cook is excellent. Above all, the hosts were warm, caring and friendly.

If you want to go and walk the Herriot way look no further!! You will be spoilt with a very big room, big bed, nice bath great views. Besides that you can have an excellent dinner every night (not to be compared with pub food this is really next level!) very good breakfast and packed lunch! And if that is not enough they will bring you to the place where you decide to start your walk, and after a phonecall Jacqui or Chris will pick you up, and on your ride back you will see the most stunning views. We will be back! Thanks again Jacqui and Chris for the five days that we were your guests, Peter and Vera, the Netherlands

Nearly fun! A great five days with Jacqui and Chris on their Herriot way walking package. No need to go anywhere else for food or drink after a long day’s walking. Superb food morning and evening plus the bonus of a packed lunch. Met some entertaining people eating at the big round table in the dining room, a hidden benefit of the place as a number of long walks intersect at Keld therefore attracting a wide range of guests. The package included Chris or Jacqui doing the driving to or from the start/end of the each days walk with some fascinating commentary along the way. The 52 mile Herriot Way in four stages is taxing enough but not a severe challenge for mere mortals like us four. Fabulous scenery and fascinating heritage sites from the lead mining industry of the area. Haven’t laughed so much for a long while, thanks again. Nigel, Jill, Baz and Jo.

We arrived at Butt House at the end of Day Seven of the Coast to Coast Walk and spent a lovely rest day in Keld. Jacqui and Chris were warm, fun and gracious hosts. Dinner both nights was fabulous. Common spaces were warm and welcoming and the room was so very comfortable. Even Scamp was gracious once he decided we were OK. We would love to return and use Butt House as a multi-day base for walking the Herriott Way or other excursions.

Wonderful reception at Butt House after a good days walking - getting a cheeky pint from the bar was a treat! Room was very clean and comfortable. Evening meal and breakfast were delicious. All in all a lovely place to stay, either overnight or for a few days to explore the beautiful countryside around Keld.

Our 5 night stay, walking the Herriots Way was brilliant and helped along by the very warm and friendly welcome we received from Jacqui & Chris, so customer focussed, positive and caring. The room was a grood size, comfortable beds, the on-suite bathroom was spotless. Breakfast choice and quality, as well as packed lunches were fantastic and the evening meals were even better, with different requirements catered for every night - Chris is a super cook. All in all we could not have wished for better hosts - amazing.

What a place to stay! Jacqui and Chris are so welcoming. We’d stay here a long time ago and always wanted to come back. Arranged to do Herriot Way staying here for 5 nights. Food is lovely, well done Chris! Locally sourced food was great. Getting back in the evening to be able to sit out and enjoy a drink in the garden with perfect views. We were so well looked after. Simply the best. Huge thank you for everything you did to make us feel welcome. Very sad to leave.

We had a lovely stay at Butt House taking advantage of their Herriot Way “package” which involved us walking 52 miles spread over 4 days. Chris and Jackie are great hosts and have a wealth of local knowledge as we discovered when being ferried to/from our start/finish points each day. The accomodation is great - clean and comfortable with all the facilities you would expect. The food is equally good with great choices for both breakfast and evening meals. Overall, we had an excellent stay and would happily recommend Chris and Jackie and Butt House to anyone looking to stay in or around the area. We would also recommend doing the Herriot Way and have, in fact, already been telling family and friends what a great time we had and that they should give it a try!!

As all the posters have said this is an excellent place to stay in Keld. We arrived jaded and tired from our drive but were instantly put at ease by Jacqui and Chris. The Black Sheep also helped! The b and b was spacious with a lovely lounge and garden and a beautiful view from our room. It was the perfect place to stay for the start of our Herriot Way walk. We were even able to leave our car here for the duration of the walk. Service above and beyond. Thank you!
