We had a great stay at the Silver Beach Hotel. This is a relatively small hotel (under 100 rooms) which suited us very well (we don't like those huge facilities with hundreds of rooms). It is located right on the beach - our beachfront rooms were just on the water (20meter). Try getting one of these rooms if you can. The rooms are specious and can easily accommodate a family with 2 kids. Rooms and hotels facilities (pool area, bar, restaurant) are VERY clean. Staff is very nice and helpful. Two important notes: (i) the hotel is listed as "all inclusive" but it is actually "full board" with 3 (very decent) meals, but you will have to pay for extra coffee and drinks, (ii) its location is quite remote - better have a rental car to get around.

The place is a bit isolated but you’re in luck if you have a car. Local buses stop nearby on the main road and it’s a ten minute walk or just use a cab.
We stayed 4 days and loved the place. Our room was very large with a balcony overlooking the sea. It had all the mod cons and was cleaned daily. Food is included so that’s all meals everyday plus you get free soft drinks, beer and wines included. Other hotels/ resorts should take note.
The staff were all friendly, helpful and always available. Nothing was too difficult. It just made for a perfect holiday. I can’t stress how important this was after being in Croatia.
You also have the choice of using the beach or one of the swimming pools. Beach towels are free and can be changed every couple of days.
There’s a gym and other facilities making this place all inclusive and kid / family friendly.
A big thanks to all the staff.

This is an exceptional hotel.
The staff are ALL friendly and helpful, especially the more senior members.
The All-Inclusive buffet was varied enough that I never had to eat the same meal twice in a week—interesting & varied dishes of superb quality; so tempting that my waistline undoubtedly increased.
Our room was facing the sea, very spacious, clean with quality material throughout. Good mattress & pillows. Also had a fridge, kettle, crockery etc.
The sea view is worth paying for and the pool bar is remarkably close.
I've recommended this hotel to my friends already!

One of the best hotel I have been to. Perfect location and size, clean, v.good food and service. Very well managed. Every one is loooking after the guests. they are very helpful. Eleni in the pool bar-charming and proffessional, not only in making drinks. The "garden" is well groomed. Limited selection in the bar helps to keep guests on their good behaviour. Very relaxing and quiet place. For me 5 *. Excellent food, service and acommodation

This hotel, while on the smaller side for resorts was absolutely magnificent. I stayed here for two weeks and was given a studio style apartment that included a small two burner stove, fridge, bathroom with shower only, full bed, dining table, and balcony with chairs. This resort has since expanded and has placed in one more complex. There is a pool and childrens pool off the main lobby, a lobby bar that also serves lunch (great bartender when I was there, really did an excellent job his name was Pavlos), a dininr room that serves buffet breakfast and dinner (also does a themed Cretan dinner one night a week with local entertainment), a small store for your basic needs and snacks, and a small wonderful staff (was run by a family from Crete and they went out of your way to make you feel at home).

I went on several excursions through a travel company which came right to the resort three days a week, the local waterpark also had a smal tram shuttle that came by the hotel for pickup. The town itself is quite small but has very good dining options, there are two stores for buying all you need within 5 minutes of the hotel also.

I would recommend the Sumari Gorge for a hike, it is quite steep and would not be recommend with those who are not used to rough terrain. I recommend starting at the top and working your way down to the ferry dock (isolated community, ferry is the onle way out without going back up the Gorge).

There are incredible side trips from Silver BEach that are worth while or you can just sit and relax by the pool and read. I would highly recommend this hotel to any traveller.

Having been to many of the Greek islands and the mainland but never Crete we looked forward to our fortnight away from routine.
We booked this accomodation to allow us a little more flexibility. We wanted to escape our day to day schedule and just relax, come and go as we pleased etc....that's what holidays are for isn't it? If you agree then whatever you do don't book to stay at the Silver Beach.
It was absolutely boiling hot which was fantastic but, as I've read in previous reviews, our air-con was a problem!
We mentioned it after the first night and it was reluctantly switched on that night. It went off early the next morning, before we even thought about getting up. That was the end of our idea of cooking our own breakfast, it was just too hot.
We casually mentioned it again to Reception and were told in no uncertain terms that we couldn't have it on all the time, that we are out of our rooms all day and if it's too hot we should open the windows!! I mentioned that there were a lot of mosquitos, in fact we had both been quite badly bitten despite the anti-mosi devices we had purchased. We were told to take something for the mosquitos!! We really didn't want any confrontation, after all it was our holiday so we left it at that.
We called the Thomson helpline several times about this. They called the Reception at the hotel and were told that the A/C was on a timer and couldn't be changed. The times were 4pm-7pm, 11pm-7am. So woe betide you should wish to escape the heat and have an afternoon snooze.....no chance....you're supposed to be out all day!!
That night we dutifully left the room after the A/C went off and went out to dinner. We returned just before 11pm, looking forward to relaxing in a cool room before going to bed. At 1.30am we were still waiting for the A/C to come on, we were melting somewhat, when we heard a slight commotion across the way, don't know what had happened but as it was the Receptionist/Manager/whatever she was, had obviously been called in. My husband flew downstairs and demanded the A/C should be turned on. It was turned on at 1.45am....this is the system that is on a timer and cannot be changed remember!!!!
I have to agree with others who have posted reviews that the Management were most unhelpful and not very pleasant at all. The bar staff I can't comment on really because we vowed not to spend any time or money there.
We also had to effect repairs to the shower head with an empty ciggy packet and I have to say that our shower curtain was too short and water went over the floor no matter how careful we tried to be which made it quite treacherous. OK we could cope with that and anyway we didn't dare mention that or anything else to them lest they should turn off the A/C permanently!
So, take heed.......If you see "Centrally cotrolled A/C" on any brochure page, it could well mean, as it does in this case "At the Management's discretion"
On the plus side the Cleaners were lovely and did a fantastic job at keeping the place spotless. We felt very sorry for them because obviously they had to clean during the day, in seering heat with no A/C available to cool them down.

Honestly, on the basis of all the reviews and the overall rating of this hotel, I expected more. The hotel is a smaller one, really quiet and familiar place with very kind staff, but has its shortcomings.

First of all, the beach. It is really close to the hotel, but was quite dirty (see the picture). Maybe it was because of the windy weather and the greater waves. The water is perfectly clear, but we had the chance to enjoy it just for 2 days during our 10-night stay. The sunbeds and umbrellas are available free of charge, but there was not too much of them.
I recommend to visit Falassarna Beach, Elafonissi or Balos, if you do not like the beach at the hotel.

Location: ideal if you want peace and quiet. We went out most of the nights, some days by foot, sometimes by bus. The bus stop is cca a 10-minute walk from the hotel, an other ten minutes is the bus ride to Platanias, a busy small town nearby. We recommend also to visit Chania, which is cca a 40-minute bus ride, despite the fact that it is just 15km-s (the bus stops very frequently and the streets are narrow, full of cars, people).

Rooms: clean, I had no problems in this regard. But seemed to me more like a 3- or 3,5-star one. The A/C was definitely not from the 21st century. We had our room above the laundry room I think, so sometimes there were unpleasent noises during the night, but managed to sleep well in spite of that :)

Food: very tasty, but they were not much varying the dishes. During the lunch, there were always fries, pasta with sauce, and one type of meat. Maybe it was really because of it is a small hotel with cca 60 rooms.
I was also very surprised about our all inclusive service. The travel agency forgot to mention that it was "all inclusive light", what I never heard before. It meant full board with drinks. It was nothing between the main dishes, which was a surprise for me. The time between lunch (13:30-14:30) and dinner (19:30-21:00) was quite long. I was planning to have small portions, but the light version changed my mind :) The 60-minute lunch time was not too comfortable, either.

Overall, I am satisfied with the holiday, but for the price we paid for a 4-star hotel, AI service, I expected more.

We stayed at Silver Beach for 2 weeks in June as was very disappointed!
Hotel was clean and rooms were nice and spacious but:

No air con in rooms - it was controlled by reception who we asked to put it on for us, said they would but didn't!!

The beach was very painful to walk on - no sand just shingle. We were also shocked to find you had to pay reception for the sunbeds.

Reception (or any of the staff) were not very helpful (or even nice!)

The nearest town (Platanias) was about 10 minutes away in a taxi, which you had to go to everynight as there was literally no where else to eat. In the Thomson brochure it said you could walk there - but you could not!

The surrounding areas were not very nice - there was a lot of concrete and un-finished buildings.

The pool had no spaces some days, so we had to pay to go to the beach, which also on the weekend was full. Also if you don't like loud children beware as there were many!!

Overall Crete is a nice Island but we would not return to Chania and not stay at Silver Beach Studios, we also felt that the Thomson brochure was very inaccurate.

Beware! Although the Silver Beach Hotel, Gerani is comfortable and spotlessly clean, should you have reason to complain to the management, you will be treated with contempt. The air-conditioning is controlled in reception and in each room the a/c units have a fan installed in order to circulate air. However, unless firm representations are made to the management regarding the a/c it will not be switched on. The result is that the fan circulates the air in the room and not a/c air. We had to request every night that the a/c be switched on, which it was reluctantly for short periods. The management will insist that, ‘the a/c is on but is inadequate for the temperatures’ when it is actually turned off. All staff, other than management, were very friendly & helpful but in 25 years of travelling the manageress of this hotel is the rudest, most arrogant person I have ever had the displeasure to meet.

Appallingly basic hotel who has doctored the photos of its rooms!

We arrived and we're refused seeing the room before swiping our card! Exhausted after no sleep we agreed and then walked to our room. Greeted by drunk lecherous old men around the pool, this was benidorms worst meets a basic youth hostel I once stayed in on a school trip!!!

It was so basic and bad the room I had to refuse it and apologise saying this is just NOT the kind of hotel we could stay at! "You must Or my boss will kill me!"

We left and called Booking.com who said we needed to return and take photos. As she had kept our passport we had to anyway! We then noticed they had taken €1200 in total for not staying!!!! To this date a month on they still have this money and Booking.com are ignoring all of our emails!

We went back I did a Facebook live that is on my page Dani Bardot . They refused to let us in our room they had taken the money for as the rented it out straight away!!!!! I asked why they had taken the money then! We also made a mistake booking they took the money for and they refused me to see that room either !!!

The rooms are so basic that if your plan is to drink and eat LOTS This maybe the hotel for you ! But if you have standards and want to relax on a NICE, SPACIOUS room in a clean hotel and a SANDY beach....this place is not for you!!!!!!!

They have still stolen our money and as Booking.com have ignored over half a dozen emails All with photos of the horrendous beach and surroundings. All of my Facebook posts have been attached too and nothing!

THIEVES AND AN APPALLING HOTEL!!!! TRADING STANDARDS ARE NEXT
