Member of the Historic Hotels of Europe, Kapsaliana Village Hotel in Crete offers accommodation profoundly different from any other in the Mediterranean. A holiday experience in a village which has been fully restored with high respect to the history and architecture of this land. Kapsaliana was part of the Arkadi Monastery. The story of the settlement starts in 1600 with the construction of the church, and continues with the creation of the olive oil mill in 1763. More people then came to the area to work on the olive trees and land, and built houses around the olive oil mill which, during the peak era, accommodated 13 families and 50 people. Nowadays, the settlement of Kapsaliana has been converted with love and artistry into a unique hotel. With particular care and diligent work the olive oil mill, the church and the utility rooms were gradually transformed into rooms and suites, restaurant, swimming pool and lounge.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Gorgeous property about 20-30 minutes from Rethymno. Renovated village into boutique hotel with a range of rooms. Our room was not large or ‘luxurious’ but very comfortable. Meals were some of the best we had in Crete and Greece. Very peaceful flower filled grounds, nice pool, and views of hills and to the sea. Recommend!

one of those places you find every once in a while where you want to stay forever. a real treat. authentic. carefully put together with consideration and love. great staff. great food. great vibe. perfectly chill and unpretentious. cant recommend it highly enough. in fact i didnt really want to review it because i might encourage too many others to go and make it harder for myself to book next time! go if you can and stay for at least 3 nights so you can start to unwind. not a place to rush. 5/5

What a beautiful place to stay in a glorious setting where the owner has lovingly restored what was the olive mill (now a museum to visit) and recreated the village houses into hotel rooms using his vision as an architect. From the welcome drink on arrival, to the Cretan style breakfasts to the leaving gift of herbs and sweet treats we felt spoilt by the luxury of the room and gardens full of fruit trees and herbs.

The village, its history, quality of fitment, staff, service, food, pretty much everything was second to none, but we wouldn’t return simply because there’s not much to do other than sunbathe or hike. Whilst I appreciate that’s the reason most people go there, it just wasn’t for us.

The service and friendliness of the staff is excellent (the owner of the hotel is present and personally cares that everything is ok), the breakfast is delicious and extremely good, the rooms are very comfortable and clean. The fact that the hotelgrounds are decorated with beautiful and extaordinary relicts from the past of the old village is extraordinary and very appealing. The same is true for the various plants, local flowers, herbs and trees, which embed the houses and small paths fantastically and thus contribute to the comfortable feeling the guests have in this hotel. The silence and beauty of this place make the holiday unforgettable.

What a beautiful place. The hotel has been beautifully thought out & designed.Peaceful. Our room was large and very comfortable with lots of wardrobe space & a large bathroom. Beautiful outdoor space too with a pomegranate tree to enjoy. Housekeeping kept it spotless so thank you to them. I particularly loved the hairdryer which for once in a hotel did not require you to hold the on button down! The staff at the hotel were friendly & extremely competent. Stellios, your wine tasting session was so enjoyable & your knowledge made it really interesting but fun too. Must mention Irinnie, Georgia, Maria for looking after us through all the fabulous meals. The food is exceptional & our thanks to the Chef & his team who consistently delivered great food. You all work very hard and we were delighted by everything.

Wonderful boutique hotel with incredibly peaceful vibe, lovely setting, great food. You will need a car to explore the island. Hotel is located centrally, in a rural location, surrounded by olive groves and small villages. This is not a beach hotel, so if you want sea, this is not the hotel for you. Very highly recommended — lovely experience!

The village hotel is located in a quiet territory with breathtaking views on mountains. The food was delicious, we really had no need to leave this little oasis. Also, the rooms are authentic and well isolated from each other that gives extra special feeling. Overall, the experience was just wonderful! Highly recommended!
