Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Location is absolutely unbeatable, and there are all the amenities you could want. We had lunch at the pool bar and dinner in the restaurant twice, both were great. Rooms were on the older side, and jacuzzi was not warm enough to stay in but overall we had a fantastic experience in a beautiful spot. Really appreciate all the additional things they’ve thought of, like DVDs for borrow, and local night.

We stayed here in the HPB facility with my sister and her husband who are bond holders. Although the site is owned by HPB you do not have to be a member to rent an apartment or villa. We were in a two bedroom two bathroom apartment which had all the facilities you could want plus great views out to see and to the east towards Camara do Lobos and Funchal. The site is about 40 minutes from the airport and 25 minutes to Funchal. When we arrived we thought the site was a bit isolated but soon realised it had great facilities with 2 pools, it's own bar and restaurant (with excellent food), mini market and courtesy bus into Camara do Lobos and Funchal plus the open top "Yellow Bus" has a stop here. Further more there were plenty of trips you could go on from the site to explore the island. In addition 3 of the local restaurants offered free transport to and from them in the evenings for dinner. There were also plenty of games facilities. In the end we decided that it was much better than being located in either Camara or Funchal the latter of which is a bit of a concrete jungle apart from the old town. Madeira is a beautiful and interesting island and this is a great place to stay to experience it.

Our superbly equipped HPB villa was spacious and had a fantastic view and lovely garden space and pool. The lounge area was huge and each of the four bedrooms were well appointed and stylish. We enjoyed two meals in the onsite restaurant and did walk number 4 provided by reception along the levada do norte, which we accessed from a gate by the turning point at the end of our line oof villas. The site is beautifully cared for and has great communal pools, bars and a bistro.

Staying in block MC at the top of the hill and enjoying fabulous views by day and night. The fireworks were fantastic on New Year's Eve as was the Gala Dinner in the onsite restaurant. An HPB site so all the usual amenities, strict adherence to Covid rules, cleaning and maintenance second to none. Felt very safe and comfortable here, better than back in the UK.

The apartment was spacious, bright and well equipped with a great balcony and good view. A variety of activities are on offer such as tennis, mini golf, bowling, snooker and swimming. The facilities are well maintained and don't need to be booked in advance. The complex doesn't have much character but is a good base for visiting the island with the sporting activities in addition. It offers good value for money and is a short drive from Funchal.

We spent a week at the HPB site at Cabo Girao. We were pleasantly surprised at how spacious our one bedroomed apartment was. As well as a large bedroom there was a large sitting room with a small but well equipped kitchen area and a sun terrace overlooking the sea. The hotel has many facilities including swimming pools, gym, spa, pool bar and restaurant as well as a small on site shop. It is quite hilly and we felt lucky that we were not right at the top as there are many steps to climb. You definitely will need a car unless you want to avail of the courtesy coach to the village of Câmara de Lobos or go on the various tours that are offered at extra cost. We ate in the restaurant on our first night and although it was quiet we enjoyed our meal. There is also a programme of entertainment including quiz night, Madeiran themed nights, barbecue, Sunday roast, etc. We would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a peaceful holiday as it was very quiet and relaxing. There wouldn’t be much for children to do in this area but there is mini-golf, a children’s pool and a small playground.

it's on top of the mountain so you definitely need a car to get here, otherwise you can take taxi from major towns below but would highly recommend a car hire. plenty to do on site for adults and kids, excellent games room and excellent restaurant for dinner, reaonable price too compared to nearby restaurants and high quality. would like a bit more variety for the breakfast but it's all fresh cooked everyday. nice view too. the nearby Cabo Girao View Point you can walk there virtually like 5 minutes, excellent place to see sun rise and sunset, very beautiful. apartment rooms are not air conditioned, so could be hot in the summer? rooms are very big and cleaned everyday.

It's not acceptable not having running hot water from the day we checked in until the morning for a 4-star hotel. We called the service line in the evening without any help until the morning. We get to borrow a shower in another building which is not optimal in the cold windy day. Contact the hotel but they insisted that's not their responsibility. The staff is nice but the facility is too old and the location is too isolated.

Response from cabo_girao, Diretor-Geral at Residence Cabo Girão
Responded 6 Feb 2020
Dear user "yunins" Thank you for taking the time to let us have your comments with reference to your stay on Village Cabo Girão. I´m glad to read that you had a pleasant stay. However, I apologise that we weren’t able to solve the problem with the hot water issue late on the night in question. I tried to minimise the problem by giving you a key to another property, but this was declined. As you mentioned the problem was sorted the next day. Once again, I apologise for any inconvenience this might have caused you. Kind regards, José Gouveia, Site Manager

Good site. Great restaurant. Poor location up in the clouds so often cold with no view. The big mistake we made was booking our car hire and insurance with the holiday thinking they’d use a reputable company. They didn’t! They used a poor off-site company. We had a two hour wait and they wouldn’t accept the insurance the site sold us. We had to take out a second policy which doubled the cost of the car hire. Incidentally those people who booked the cars themselves using reputable on-airport companies had none of the problems we had and arrived at the site hours before us. If we had been relying on public transport or taxis we’d give the site a 4* rating, but because of our bad experience 2* is a fairer reflection of our holiday experience.
