Wonderful hotel right in the best wine/port region we've been in. The staff at checking were more than welcoming. Hugo went out of his way to make you feel at home and gave us some great recommendations of places to see throughout the Douro valley. The room was large and well maintained and bathroom shower was great. The breakfast in...

We had read that the Douro Valley was very scenic, but the views are amazing on the road from Pinhao to Alijo. If we had not booked this pousada, we would never have driven that stretch of road and we would have missed this splendour. The pousada was an old manor house that was refurbished. They did a lovely job...

We were welcomed by a friendly receptionist and shown to our well-equipped room. The bathroom was good and the free fruit enjoyable. And there was a most comfortable bed. But the best thing was the really excellent food; there is a daily set menu, carefully selected and beautifully presented. And there is a great wine list with more Douro wines...

we stayed her just one night as part of a tour around northern Portugal and Spain. we had spent the afternoon on a train ride to the upper reaches of the Douro and back, so this hotel was very convenient stop. not that it should regarded as just a stop over, it is really lovely, dinner was fantastic, breakfast in...

We stayed here for two nights during a short trip to the Douro valley. At the time of our stay there were very few guests so we had the staff almost to ourselves. The room and bathroom could do with redecorating but they are comfortable and we had a lovely balcony (room 104). The staff did everything to satisfy our...

The hotel is located in Alijó, near a new motorway and is an excellent location for day trips in the surrounding countryside (Douro Valley, Parque Natural do Alvao, Vila Real and Palacio de Mateus, Guimaraes, Barcelos, Parque Arqueoloico do Vale do Coa just to name a few places). We planned to spend three nights and stayed for eight. There is...

This pousada has a swimming pool and tennis courts for those who want a change of pace from sightseeing. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially the maitre de in the evenings. The food was good and regional produce was used as far as possible. The rooms were quite large and ours had a balcony overlooking the pool which...

This was our first Pousada experience. From the pictures you think that it's out in the country - but it is really right in town at one of the many round-a-bouts. Chances are you will miss the driveway the first time, so just go around and come back. The entrance is on the lowest level, where there is a very...

Small Pousada built in 1944. Great decor in the rooms, Room 104 had a small balcony which was great to sit out on at night and enjoy a glass of local wine. The food in the restaurant was fantastic and a real shame that more people were not dining there. The staff were all fantastic and gave us great suggestions...

Nice big room and enormous bathroom. Excellent food both for dinner and breakfast - the freshly made scrambled eggs of particular note. Just beginning to show its age - both inside and by the pool. Few other guests - probably put off by the obnoxious Canadian woman sitting next to me at both meals!
