This is one of our favorite pousadas, staff, restaurant, atmosphere, 5 star all the way credit to Pestana group!! Cant wait to go back again, would go more often if it was not so far from home (Algarve).

The building it is a fascinating monastery. A fantastic redecoration was made, but the rooms (old cells) are small, and if you have the wardrobe’s door open, the person inside the bathroom cannot get out. The chairs in the room are a very contemporary style, but not comfortable at all. It is a place to stay a night, to stay...

We loved staying at the pousada for a night in November. Because it was the off season, we were the only guests there that night - so we had a delicious private dinner served to us in the massive dining room! The grounds were gorgeous, and it was a very relaxing experience. Would love to come back in the warmer...

Amazing posada in Northern Portugal (miles away from Amares, by the way), renovated from a 12th century monastery. Everything about it reflects the spareness of monastical life--except the food, the rooms, and the service. Only complaint is that the hallways are quite dark at night--hard to get your key in the lock. We arrived in the rain, just after dark...

The above may appear to be a strange title for a review but it may save some problems that we experienced! The most convenient place to park at the Pousada is the car park next to the front of the building. The Pousada does have its own car park but it is round the back and a long (uphill) way...

I absolutely loved this pousada. It was a really atmospheric place to stay. A beautiful old building sympathetically restored and fabulously styled with comfortable rooms. Ancient fuses with modern - just superbly designed. Feature minibar in the room. Really comfortable bed. Great service. In the bars and on the terraces there were little pods for calling for your waiter and...

This is a gem, and probably the only time anyone gets to stay in a 12th century monastery. Vast high ceilings, mighty, yards-thick granite walls, a courtyard with cloisters... it would be a fascinating place just to visit, but to be able to stay there is special indeed. It is run by Pestana, who I first came across in London,...

A wonderful pousada in Northern Portugal! We stayed for our wedding anniversary (which we mentioned by Chance to the reception). when we got to our room, we found a free bottle of champagne and a bowl of fruit. We came back after 4 years because we love it so much, view is breath taking, staff super friendly specially Eusebio. They changed the dinning room to a more modern look but we feel they literally steal the charm and ambience of the restaurant area, was rustic and super romantic but not any longer. We won't go back.

Dear Guest, We think you may have made a mistake on the Pousada you selected to evaluate and comment. The Pousada you described is Pousada do Gerês- S. Bento and not ours, Pousada de Amares. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
On the road from Braga to Geres the Pousada Mosteiro de Amares emerges, Santa Maria do Bouro is a result of the restoration of a twelfth century Cistercian Monastery, one of the more characteristic of this period in Portugal, of a remarkable work by architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, awarded the Pritzker award in 2011, the highest award in the architectural world. This fantastic hotel in Geres, surrounded by stunning gardens, has been extensively restored and adapted for modern times, has been transformed into a temple of peace. The Pousada Mosteiro de Amares is located mere minutes from the National Park of Peneda Geres, where you can enjoy the experience of a lifetime immersed in the stunning environment.
