Newly built in 'Traditional' style with excellent amenities for the 4 rooms available for hire ( Large Outdoor Pool, on site taverna with wi-fi (not in rooms)). The family are very hospitable and welcoming even though they speak little English. It was very quiet when we stayed. All food had to be pre-ordered and cooked just for us! There are... More

I've visited Crete a couple of times and don't much like Heraklion. On this occasion, I searched for a village hotel that wasn't too far away from the airport as well as being close to Knossos. This place suited our purposes well, as it was about 25 minutes drive from the airport and a similar distance to Knossos. We spent... More

We've been travelling to Greece since 1982 and have been back many times. Occasionally we lament the 'old Greece', when you had to communicate through sign language, but despite this the people were fun, genuinely warm and good-hearted. I chose this place because I hate Heraklion and I wanted to take my wife to see Knossos. It ended up being... More

The hotel is not close to a beach, but if you are in the area or close by, it is definitely worth it. It is a traditional hotel with beautiful, spacious and clean rooms. Nice pool area with employees ready to provide anything you need. If the breakfast was included in the price, it would be amazing (we paid 8... More

Situated in the very quiet village of Houdetsi, Petronikolis Traditional Houses are restored traditional houses. Very quiet and peaceful, no noise at night, in a one-taverna village. Fortunately the taverna, the Roussos, is excellent. Houdesti is about 20 km from the coast and if you are interested in staying in rural Crete it is well worth while. It is conveniently... More

Very well equipped studio room - aircon, TV (only Greek + a couple of French/Italian satellite channels), lovely bathroom, cooking area with electric kettle. Original old building has been modernised nicely, though our room was a bit dark - it would have been great if they'd put an internal stairway up to the roof to provide a sitting area in... More

If you want a holiday away from the crowds in a beautiful self-catering apartment then I'd thoroughly recommend Petronikolis. The rooms were fabulous, really well appointed and very comfortable and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It's about 25 minutes to Heraklion by car and I'd strongly advise renting one as otherwise you'll have to rely on public transport... More
