We have visited the Villa Amalia many times, and it’s always a pleasure to do so.

This year there have been some significant improvements to both rooms and surroundings, which probably has been long overdue. It’s now only bookable through Jet2.

It’s located in the middle of a pine forest about 400 metres down a track from bus stop 23. You don’t get any noise from the main road.

It’s walkable to all the restaurants and bars in the resort.

The rooms are “basic” but have everything you will need.

The grounds and pool are expertly maintained by Roberto who seems to work all hours of the day and night to keep the grounds and apartments looking good.

The “three amigos” Fotis, Dimitris & George who largely run the apartments, will do everything possible to ensure that you are having a good time. If there is anything not right, just speak to them and it will usually be rectified straight away.

The bar sells probably the cheapest beer on the Island at €3.50 for a large beer-I’ve never found anywhere cheaper. The bar is open until late, and there’s music played most of the time, but it’s turned down late at night so as not to disturb anyone. You can request any music you like. You can always request a room away from the bar if you are a light sleeper when initially making your booking.

The House Keeping girls work hard too and change the sheets and towels as well as clean the room on a regular basis.

Koukounaries isn’t the prettiest of resorts, but its beauty lies in the fact that many of the best beaches on the Island are within walking distance. Those beaches further away, or Skiathos Town are easily reached by the frequent bus service which run until quite late at night.

If you are looking for luxury accommodation then this isn’t the place for you, but if you are looking for basic, traditional Greek accommodation in a beautiful location, run by a friendly and helpful family, then you have found the right place.

I’ve marked down value for money by one star. As other people have mentioned I believe, the prices can sometimes be quite high this year. The Villa Amalia have no control of what Jet2 charge, and perhaps with Easyjet entering they market to Skiathos in 2024 with flights from Bristol, Gatwick & Manchester, Jet2 will have to rethink their pricing structure.

Great location situated just off the beaten track, in a pine forest surrounded by beautiful shrubs and specimen trees. Just a 10 minute walk down a country lane brings you to the local shops / restaurants in Koukounaries and the main bus route to Skiathos town (takes about 30mins and they run every 10-15 mins costing only 2 euros!). Accommodation although basic, is very clean and of a good size with simple kitchen facilities to cook breakfast or a light meal. The poolside bar is the center of the operation and the very friendly and helpful staff make you feel extremely welcome with their entertainment, together with great priced drinks!

We arrived in the evening to welcome drinks at George’s bar. The apartments are down a winding track surrounded by forest. The luggage arrives separately but was waiting for us when we arrived. Rooms are basic but spacious and clean. The pool area is lovely, very clean with new sun beds and parasols. There is no food available but Myrtia apartments next door do lovely breakfasts, lunches and dinners so no problem if you don’t want to walk too far. There are a handful of tavernas within walking distance and a supermarket about a 5/10 minute walk away. Koukounaries beach is about 15 minutes walk. It’s packed with sun beds so no problem getting one, 2 beds & a parasol are €15. The sea is calm, warm and very clear, perfect for swimming. The beach gets a little crowded, with boats packed with people coming in and out throughout the day. There are quieter beaches such as Elias if you don’t mind a walk. It took us about 40 minutes to walk there through a forest (opposite bus stop 23 by the derelict hotel). Buses are regular, every 10-15 mins from bus stop 23 and it costs €3 to go to Skiathos town. It’s worth a visit as there are lots of shops and restaurants.
The only negative was the cleaners here. Although the apartment was perfectly clean on arrival we found that the cleaners only seemed to empty the bins each day (although they didn’t even do that one day). We twice had to ask for a change of towels and twice asked for toilet rolls. No problem getting these from George though, he’s very helpful. The floor didn’t seem to get cleaned much either.
The bar stays open until the last person leaves. George will play any music you ask for and there is also sky sports in the bar area. We had no problem with noise from the bar at night.
We had a very enjoyable holiday at this lovely tranquil place, surrounded by trees and plants.

We have been visiting the Amalia apartments for about 15 years. They are set back from the main road in an idyllic location deep within the forest but within easy walking distance of a number of beaches, bars and restaurants The apartments are spacious and spotlessly clean and, although basic, have everything you need. The one we stayed in this time had obviously been recently refurbished and was nice and bright. The pool area has plenty of sunbeds and parasols and is very well kept, as are the surrounding gardens. The owners, George and Fotis are always on hand if you have any problems or need any advice, and there is a friendly poolside bar where guests can gather at night.

After the disruption of the pandemic years it was wonderful to find Amalia as chilled out as ever thanks to the grand masters of chill, George and Fotis. Set in a wonderful forest location Amalia offers meticulously clean rooms , a pool for lazy days and close access to some of the worlds finest beaches. Evenings at the bar are magical, great music and lively, memorable conversations.

We have recently returns from our annual visit to Amalia, it was great to see all the improvements George and the team had done the new sun beds and pool area are amazing. If the pool isn't your scene a lot of the best stunning beaches of Skiathos are only a walk away from the tranquil forest setting of Amalia. When you arrive there are always drinks on the house from George, Fotis and Dimitrius. The pool bar is doubles as reception where all your questions can be answered and the bar prices are the cheapest on the island. we have met many good friends at the bar who all return year after year!
All rooms have been improved this year with the invaluable bug screens which are superb, you can leave your doors open with just the screens closed which is so nice at night.
We always stay in the same room year after year as we are pleased with it.
Well stocked shops and great restaurants and tavernas are all within a short walk up the well lit path to the main road, where you can catch the local bus to explore the rest of this beautiful island and they run every 15 minutes.
we have already booked for next year and can't wait to return to see all the good friends we have met at Amalia over the past 10 or so years we have been visiting there. As long as your expectations are not 5 star luxury remembering this is Greece self catering you will not be disappointed and will have an amazing relaxing holiday!

We have just returned back from our 2 week holiday here and we were so sad to be leaving. The apartments have a really nice relaxed friendly atmosphere.. you can always get Sun loungers around the pool at any time of day. The rooms were cleaned daily and had plenty of room. George was very accommodating to our needs 😊 and nothing was too much trouble. The drinks are really cheap and theres a nice vibe in the evenings with music playing, everyone staying there seemed to always have a few drinks in the bar before heading back to their rooms as it’s a nice way to finish your day. The supermarkets are close by and the road leading down to the apartments is lit up so you feel completely safe. The restaurant next door serves food if you don’t want to venture too far. They also have a children’s play park which is good for the kids. This is a perfect place to stay as is close to everything but also has that feel that you are away from the hustle and bustle too so for us it was perfect. We will defiantly be back 😎🌟😊🫶 x

First thing first, George’s bar at hotel Amalia has the cheapest and most refreshing pint of lager that I came across throughout my whole stay on Skiathos. The hotel and its gardens are stunning and very well maintained and the surrounding area is very natural and far enough away from the main road so is very peaceful and quiet. Everything we could have needed was either at the hotel or you had a nice choice of brilliant restaurants less than a 15 minute walk away. The owners are 3 brothers who are friendly, polite and very eager to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. They also have a great knowledge of the best beaches, restaurants and ways to entertain yourself around the local area. I do love a moan where possible but honestly couldn’t find a single thing to moan about! It was an absolute pleasure to stay there. Yamas!

Just returned from having a lovely 2 weeks in Skiathos, staying in Amalia apartments in Koukounaris.
George, Dimitris and Fotis were lovely hosts, each of them taking the time during our stay to share information, chat and entertain us.
The apartment we stayed was large and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The cleaners came to the rooms each day to clean and provide towels and toilet roll.
This was a relaxing holiday mixed with lots of laughter and fun. We met some lovely people whilst we were there which made the holiday even more enjoyable.

The apartments are reasonably small but have all the facilities you need for a self catering holiday. We took our 10 year old granddaughter with us for her first holiday without her parents and she had an amazing time. George and Fotis who run the apartments and the pool bar are extremely friendly and if you have any problems they get them sorted quickly. The apartments are along a quiet forest path but there are beaches, small supermarkets and tavernas within easy walking distance. The local buses run very regularly and it costs 2 euros for a journey to Skiathos town. For the more adventurous you can hire a 4 wheel drive Jimmy to visit the north of the island.

Hi there, we were at the Amalia 2 weeks ago & had a g treat time. Jet2 handle all room allocation so I would contact them firstly. We were in a twin bedded ground floor room - no.33 & it was lovely. If Jet2 can’t help then maybe contacting George through the Amalia Facebook page would also be an option - he’ll do all he can to help. Have a great time & come back with any further questions. Cheers.
