This hotel is by far the best we have stayed in to date.
It was kept spotless everywhere. All staff are friendly and helpful and we didn’t want for anything.
The pool was a little chilly when getting in (expected in October) but you soon get used to it. Indoor pool was heated.
Sun loungers are very comfortable and we never had a problem getting one, either by the pool or on the beach.
They have a great beach towel voucher system and I wish more hotels did this.
You are not allowed to save a lounger with your towel (Hallelujah!) before 10am and go off and leave it. Anyone doing this would have their towels removed and it will cost you to get them replaced.
We had a front sea facing room which was amazing. We kept the sliding doors open and fell asleep, and woke up, to the sounds of the waves. Magical.
The room was spacious and had everything we needed. Bottles of water were replenished daily.
As an observation, and something to be aware of, not all of the swim up rooms had the same over water lounger beds and the patios overlooking their pools were shared. On the plus side, the swim up pools were a very decent size.
The beach is not soft sand. It is stoney and pebbly so beach shoes are recommend. The sea bed is also rocky.
It’s a quiet, adult only, hotel with chilled entertainment in the evenings. We would definitely stay here again if opportunity allows.

Just returned from a 12 day stay at this hotel. This is the best 5 star hotel we have stayed at in Greece in terms of service, staff were extremely efficient and showed a genuine interest in ensuring you had everything you needed for an enjoyable holiday. We were always served very promptly in the bars and restaurants and plates were cleared away in a timely fashion. The whole hotel is shiny and new and clean! The rooms were lovely with separate toilet, iron and ironing board and a ceiling fan which cooled the room down perfectly and was not noisy. We had a seafront room and went to sleep listening to the sea. Ate at one of the Al A Carte restaurants one night and had lovely fresh fish with a view of the sea and sunset. Entertainment was low key which was fine by us, got the bus into Rethymno a couple of times, a lovely bustling place. Took a trip to Chania and Lake Kournas both beautiful and worth doing. I agree there is a lacking of sunbeds by the pool but plenty by the beach depending upon your preference. We are early risers and always managed to get a bed by the pool. Do not reserve beds with towels before breakfast as your belongings will be removed! Overall a very well run hotel, the staff work very hard and we had a fabulous time.

Amira is truly a luxury resort! This family owned hotel is managed with a visible passion to enable motivated personnel to cater for every detail ensuring pleasant stay for us customers. The whole staff regardless of their role is simply amazing in their resentless customer focus through positive attitude with a smile, prompt reactions to all kind of requests and attention to detail resulting to all corners of the brand new resort remaining in perfect shape and clean. The building is an architectual master piece with modern design which is not only beautifully but even more importantly very functional. As the resort is compact everything important to visitors is close but thanks to clever design, the pool area in the middle is really spacious with a surprisingly large pool. Modern furniture both inside and outside are of top quality. All of the three restaurants are excellent in their distinct profile and the breakfast leaves no wishes unfulfilled. The gym and spa are consistent with luxurious yet functional style of the resort. The really nice city of Rethymno is easy to reach with local bus in 20 minutes from the bus stop just front of Amira entrance (every 30 minutes, return ticket 2,5 €). Amira must be one of the best places in Greece to experience the unforgettable sun set especially from the sea front restaurant. The beach is well managed and really nice thanks to the amazingly clear water and small round stones at the shore line. Therefore it is wise to take water shoes with you untill the very interesting development plans for the beach will materialize making Amira even more luxurious in the future.

Our family has visited numerous resorts on three continents during past good 20 years. Our stay in Amira with our youngest 16 year old is definitely one of the most memorably so we can recommened the resort without any doubt to anyone seeking a relaxed holiday in a high quality resort!

This hotel has some 5 star aspects, but still has a long way to go before I’d consider it a true 5 star hotel.

From the exterior to the lobby to the rooms, the quality and finish can not be faulted. A brand new luxury feel to all areas.

However… there were several serious flaws we experienced during our stay.

Rooms: our major issue with the hotel was the air conditioning in our room. It was at very lowest 26 degrees throughout our entire stay. When we enquired with the hotel, neither staff nor maintenance could fix the aircon and they left us with no alternative or solution other than to keep our balcony door open. This slightly cooled the room, however during the night, loud music was played from the taverna next door. It was unbearable. Despite several conversations with staff, we were offered no alternative.

Pool: During our stay it was too cold to use the outdoor pool, so we tried the indoor pool. However it was not heated and freezing cold during our stay, so completely useless.

Food: The food quality was fine, and selection was good, however the glaring issue was that 90% of it was not labelled. This meant that choosing your food was complete pot luck, and for guests with food intolerances absolutely impossible. It was a complete nightmare!

Staff: the staff were clearly undertrained and inexperienced, and came across as rude on some occasions. As someone who has experienced other 5 star resorts, unfortunately the level of service was far below average for this price range.

Wifi: The wifi coverage was poor through out the hotel, and often didn’t work.

Location: This hotel is far from a local town, and you would need a rental car to explore the area, as the hotel offered no shuttle service or excursions.

Overall, this is a beautiful hotel, however it still has a very long way to go before being considered ‘5 star’.

Dear Emma, First of all we would like to thank you for choosing our hotel for your vacation in Crete and for taking the time to share your experience on TripAdvisor. Your comments regarding the interior and the facilities are much appreciated although the same can not be said about your opinions in other matters as well. Everyone at Amira is continuously trying to make our guests’ stay as pleasant as it can be although when it comes to technical problems it can become very challenging. The indoor pool was also heated during your stay in May so it comes as a surprise to us that you were feeling cold. You came at the beginning of the season and since then we improved many things due to the feedback we received! That being stated, there are labels in every single food there is on the main restaurant and in case a guest has an allergy, they are advised upon arrival that they can advise the Service Manager or the Executive Chef. Moving to the staff, if you take the time to read some of the reviews on this and other platforms as well, you will realize that our staff are nothing less than great. We all have hospitality deep in our hearts and being welcome is a way of life in Crete. Apart from that, everyone at our team has went through theoretical and on-the-job training so that we offer immaculate service. The hotel is located just 15 minutes away from the city of Rethymno and is close to the best beaches of the south. It is once again a big surprise to hear that you had to rent a car on your own in order to explore the island. Once again, upon arrival the Guest Service and Reception staff always inform the guests that in case they need help organizing their vacation they can anytime. We understand that you had some issues of technical nature but we did in fact offered you solutions. This establishment is not just a 5 star hotel but also luxurious and you can sense that in every single detail. Regardless of your areas of concern, it would be a pleasure to welcome you again and change your opinion because we are continuously trying to offer unique service and experiences. Sincerely, The Management of Amira Luxury Resort & Spa

This hotel is amazing. Our flight arrived late and so we arrived after midnight. On check in we were taken to the bar area for welcome drinks ( the homemade lemonade was delicious). A quick run through of hotel facilities etc and we were taken to our room which was a beach/ sea from suite.

The staff had placed a birthday cake and bottle of bubbles with a lovely note which was a wonderful touch especially as my birthday was the day before our arrival. They also provided a light meal as it was late and a bottle of wine. Again a nice touch.

The room like every inch of the hotel was immaculately clean. Comfy bed, great pillows which allowed for great night sleep. The bathroom with double sinks were fab. Towels were good quality and the dressing gowns light and comfy.

The view from our room was stunning and great for watching the sun set.

We found the food to be excellent. Breakfast buffet was extensive with fresh omelettes made to order. Evening buffet was just as good and we found the variety satisfactory.

We used the seafront restaurant on one evening for the fish night/ BBQ and it was excellent and found it reasonable priced. Definitely worth it.

The staff were excellent. Always smiling, friendly, helpful and knowledgable ( especially about Greek wines) despite our reservations the wines we tried were great.

We like the fact that you couldn’t reserve loungers by the pool before 10am. We noticed on several days staff removing towels freeing up loungers for others. The pool is excellent and the staff great.

Overall this hotel is a gem and not to be missed. We can’t wait to return.

Dear Guest, There are not enough words to say "thank you" for your kind and positive feedback concerning your last stay in our hotel! From the very beginning you arrive to our hotel until the end of your stay, we aim to offer you a calm stay and to fulfill your needs accordingly. We are very happy to see that you enjoyed your heartwarming welcome and the surprise! The room with the stunning sea view, as everything in the hotel, is designed to make you relaxed and the Housekeeping team always pays attention to the details! We are delighted that you are satisfied with the food on the main restaurant “NISSOS”. The ingredients are organic, of the highest quality and prepared with passion by our passionate chefs. Both the breakfast and the dinner are indeed richly varied and we are extremely happy to see that you also enjoyed “Almyra”. Every week we arrange a Fish or BBQ Night in the sea front which consist of Greek and Cretan traditional dishes and live music. These events are the perfect way for our guests to come closer to the local cuisine and traditions. Our staff always goes above and beyond for our valuable guests since we have hospitality deeply in our hearts. The staff on the pool are discreetly applying the policies and offer immaculate service always with a genuine smile. We also find your review very helpful for future travelers and we truly hope that we will have the chance to welcome you back soon! Kind regards, The Management of Amira Luxury Resort & Spa

The Amira is a fabulous new hotel with stunning views out to the ocean.
Clean , modern with luxurious pools and fantastic facilities .

We had an sea front/ocean view room that was well worth the extra euros , ..those rooms start with numbers 522-530. The lower the number the closer you will be to the outdoor pools and beach where you exchange your towels and have access to the sun loungers on the beach .

The higher numbers will be closer to the end of the hotel and look out over to an area with rented sunbeds (not part of the hotel ) and near the turtle sanctuary ..keep out !!

Most of the time there are sunbeds free but the ones near the infinity pool are grabbed first by the towel over the sunbed guests . Staff will remove these towels before 10.00am.

Breakfast buffet is excellent with cooked items, lots of fruit, cheeses and pastries , great choices of bread and cereals.

The evening buffet was a disappointment . The cooked items in the tureens were often dried up , luke warm and of poor quality . Vegetables were watery and most of the time unappetizing .

Every night there was pasta, pizza sometimes burgers and always chips . We didn't pay 5* prices to be offered this every night .

So much pork on offer every night . The chicken was fried on a hot plate and was so tough . The Stifado was not lovely tender beef but rabbit !!

The much photographed dessert section had many desserts but they all tasted the same - a mousse type of confection .

The extra charge restaurant by the ocean was superb .

The evening entertainment was enjoyable - low key ..perfect with a drink in the evening cool . Lovely comfortable seating .

All staff were brilliant from the lovely lady who cleaned our room to the staff on reception ..5 stars !

We had a very enjoyable stay but every evening we hoped for a better buffet and we were so disappointed .

Dear Guest, First of all, we would like to thank you for choosing to stay at our resort and for sharing your experience with other travelers on this platform. We are delighted to hear that you found the hotel fabulous with stunning views and the luxury you deserve. Everyone at the team of Amira goes above and beyond and strives to serve with excellence. The premises is brand new and everything is lavish and made to offer the comfort you seek. It is an particularly unpleasant surprise to see that you did not enjoy the dinner at the main restaurant. First of all the menu is well-varied with the best ingredients of the market and the chefs prepare it with genuine passion and attention to detail. We have a special Italian Corner with pizza and pasta that again, changes daily so that you taste different kinds everyday! We understand that taste is something subjective and everyone has different likings and we feel sorry that you were not pleased with the food. On the contrary, we are overjoyed to see that you found “Almyra” by the sea superb and that you are pleased with the entertainment program. We will make sure our team knows about your satisfaction because it really strengthens our efforts and makes us better. We hope to see you again in the near future and make your stay even better! Arranged airport pick up with hotel and friendly service and very punctual. We came from Athens so wanted a relaxing place
Excellent welcome by name at the entrance, given drinks and food whilst we were given a brief of the resort. Adult only resort that is brand new
Great room with great features except two single beds which was strange but I know common. They were comfortable but not what should be there
Bathroom was excellent as was the maid service but hot and cold taps around the wrong way. Bottle of wine and fruit in the room was excellent on arrival. Lovely large balcony looking over the pool and out to sea
Pool and private beach areas were excellent, well managed with excellent service. Staff were young and very friendly. I think over trained as conversation was very scripted but English was excellent
Breakfast was really good with great choices and some mornings a glass of sparkling wine and good back ground music. Dinner was okay but not as Greek as I expected. I would recommend only doing bed and breakfast as some great local restaurants 5 mins walk away. Rethymno town is only 15-20 minutes in a cab for 12 Euros. Bus outside is inconsistent and takes much longer to get to the town, though comfortable
It was my wife’s birthday whilst we were there and a lovely cake and champagne were left for her
Good town nearby with supermarket, restaurants and lots of souvenir shops
Car hire arranged by hotel and car bought to you. Small car max Euro 60 per day and optional 12 Euro to get zero excess which is good as excess 600 Euro
Free fresh water everyday in room fridge
Two chargeable restaurants in the resort that you got 30% off if you swapped for evening buffet, did not look used much
Special events but pricey at 38 Euro extra each for BBQ or 80 for lobster night. BBQ looked impressive and great set up, very few people attended
Free gifts when leaving olive oil, soap and honey is a great touch.
Storage area and shower if you are leaving late which we were. Resort full so hard to get late check out and 60 Euros, to be honest with the facilities late check is not needed
Evening entertainment was not the best. However as I said I would recommend bed and breakfast and go outside in the evening for dinner and entertainment

Dear Warby, We would like to thank you for choosing Amira Luxury Resort & Spa for your vacation and for taking the time to share your experience on Booking.com. Our goal from the moment you arrive at our resort, is to make you feel welcome and comfortable and we are very happy that we achieved that. Thank you for your kind comments regarding the cleanliness and rest assured that the Housekeeping team will get informed of your satisfaction. The hotel is brand new with a very modern and well-designed pool area and also a beautiful beach where you can relax and enjoy your drinks. Our staff work continuously in order to offer you the luxury and personalized service you deserve because every guest is unique. Further to your post, we are glad that you found our breakfast buffet great but we are surprised that you did not find enough Greek dishes. We serve a great variety of local and traditional food on a daily basis and we also have a dedicated Greek night every week on the main restaurant. The Half-Board offers a 34% discount for dinner and lunch at “Almyra” with Greek and Mediterranean food and dinner at “Kritamos”, our À la carte fine dining restaurant. This discount is very convenient in case you would like to spent an evening outside of the hotel, since it allows you to be more flexible! Regarding the events, the BBQ costs 38€ per person, for HB. The price for that matter can be even considered low for the quality and variety that is offered! In addition to that, the Lobster Night costs 80€ for HB and includes 5 dishes! Both of the events were full so it comes to us as a surprise that you found the people few. We are overjoyed that the facilities were up to your standards, efficient and that even without the late check out you felt comfortable. Even though we have a rich entertainment program, we really appreciate your feedback because it helps us improve! Despite the areas of concern you have mentioned, we are delighted to note that your stay with us was great and we really hope that you will give us the chance to welcome you back in our hotel! Warm Regards, The Management of Amira Luxury Resort & Spa

Amira resort is certainly 5 star, arrived at around 10.00 pm in evening, nothing was too much trouble, bags all took car of and escorted to room. Rooms are very clean full A/C. Fruit bowl and bottle of wine presented in room. Very well presented full marks guys!
Pool are and beach very clean and organised, food and drinks served here all 5 star and very reasonable. Guys and gals working at poolside grill/bar all great and work very hard.
A real gem of a very cool and well organised hotel, you can see that the hotel invests in training for their staff, it shows! Absolute 5 star and worth every penny.
Only thing I would add is maybe a little music around pool are, but please guys, not too loud!!
Well recommended adults only peace and quiet hotel. WELL DONE ALL.

This is a beautiful hotel. It is spotlessly clean and has gorgeous rooms and public areas. The pools are fantastic and the beach, though stony is also beautifully kept. Beach shoes are a game changer.
Staff are happy, friendly and always greet you with a smile. Service is excellent - even by the pool, food and drink orders are delivered swiftly.
The food by the pool and in the two a la carte restaurants is excellent. Fish night by the sea was magical.
We didn’t love the evening meals in the buffet restaurant but kept reminding ourselves that the cost of half board as opposed to bed and breakfast was minimal. And it was more than worth the cost.
We had a sharing pool room. The room itself was lovely but to be able to open the doors out on to a 60m semi private pool was extraordinarily luxurious. We could swim from dawn to dusk and dry off on our own sun beds if we wanted to. I agree that the placement of the platform beds is a bit odd but it didn’t really bother us.
It was our wedding anniversary while we were away and the bottle of fizz and chocolate cake were a lovely touch.
There isn’t a lot to do here but that is what we wanted. We took a bus to Rethymnon one night and couldn’t wait to get back to the tranquility of Amira.
For 10 days we have relaxed, swam, read, eaten and drink. It was exactly what we wanted. A perfect retreat.
It is quite expensive in comparison with some of the larger all inclusives available and it was a toss up between here and one of the Ikos hotels which are fabulous but very spenny. In truth there probably won’t be much in it by the time we have added up the food and drinks bill but we have had a wonderful time and a proper rest.

Dear Guest, We would like to start by expressing our sincere gratitude for you excellent feedback! We could not be happier to see that you had a spectacular stay with us and that everything was perfect. Thank you deeply for your kind comments regarding the cleanliness and the facilities of the hotel that are all brand-new and top notch. We are also happy to see that you felt our genuine hospitality which we heartwarmingly offer to our guests. Everyone strives to deliver excellent, luxurious and convenient service so that you get to relax and enjoy your days with us. The Fish Night takes place every Thursday on “Almyra” Greek and Mediterranean restaurant and is a unique event with fresh local dishes and live Greek music. We are delighted to see that you found it magical but feel surprised that you do not share the same feelings for the dinner at the same restaurant. The sharing pool is indeed of a considerable size and it is perfect for having a pool day by the comfort of your room! The platform beds are quite in compare with the number of the rooms and it is understandable that not every balcony can have its’ one. Nevertheless, all of the rooms have sun beds but we are happy that there was not any inconvenience! We are overjoyed to see that you enjoyed the surprise we prepared for you and that you had an overall relaxing stay. The area has tavernas and mini markets without being overcrowded or loud! Please be aware that you are more than welcome to come again in the near future! It would be our pleasure reach and exceed your expectations once again. Warm regards, The Management of Amira Luxury Resort & Spa

We have travelled the world and usually stayed at nice Hotels, and this one is one of the best we have experienced. Our expectations were exceeded on every level. It is really beautiful here. The service and the friendliness of the staff is extraordinary . When we arrived we were served refreshments in the lobby and a refreshing towel to wash hands/face. The luggage was carried to the room, where we found wraps, fruit, water and wine. A really nice surprice! The cleaning is very good both indoors and outdoors. The athmosphere is nice and calm around the pools. The staff make sure that people dont occupy sunbeds without being present. Very good! Nice music events in the evening that ends before midnight. And you can be served food and drinks and get new beach towels in the beach area. There are a few restaurants with different assortment and we found the best food on site. We are very satisfied. If I could wish one thing that would be a parasol to get some shade when sitting outside the apartment. We lived at first level with access to shared private pool in front, and the afternoons got hot! We would very much like to come back and will highly recommend this hotel. Thank you for a very pleasant stay!

There were some water sports you could book via the hotel and they would come to the beach. No clue about costs
