Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

My partner had stayed before and we live locally, don’t get much time off but decided to have a night away and he suggested Meon Valley. It was so much better than just a night away. For only £10 we could bring our well behaved dog. The two chaps on reception were gracious and helpful when we arrived earlier than expected, then the bar staff were charming while we had a coffee. We enjoyed the gym, pool and steam/sauna the retired to a wonderful suite with everything and more that we needed for a restful and delightful stay. AMAZING sitting room, bedroom and bathroom with lovely decor and toiletries. The whole place smells fresh and is clean to standards rarely upheld by 5* places. Sophia on reception made a fuss of the dog and was polite, friendly and helpful each time we saw her, even fussing over our Lurcher and making a point of remembering her name which was lovely. The staff in the golf shop were beyond well mannered and all staff made us feel totally at home which was great. After a super night’s rest we used the gym then went for an above par breakfast and left elated and keen to book again. A hidden gem, whether you like golf or not it is deserving of more than its rating and we couldn’t recommend it more highly, Looking forward to returning regularly.

We had a golf society day recently and arrived to find there were no food and beverages available on arrival. Mixed messages from various members of staff about when food would be available. The course was in poor condition and seemed uncared for throughout our round. Pre-ordered food for our group was reasonable but uninspiring. Small choice of wine which once again was average. My room was cold initially so I had to put on the electric wall heater which seemed to be restricted. Bathroom was cold too. I couldn’t believe there was a £5.00 charge to use the hotel pool! The only highlight was our host who was very attentive and professional. Needless to say our society will not be returning to stay and play again.

Charge for pool use. I've been coming here for a couple of years as a nice weekend treat with the missus. For some reason they have now decided to charge to use the pool.. A fiver a person. I won't be back. Chilworth Manor has similar rooms and doesn't charge for the pool if you need a nearby alternative.

Really poor for an expensive golf two day stay. Golf course is fine, no real issues. But please be aware if you are booking a break - there is no restaurant. You get a menu of 4 main dishes, and you eat it in the bar area. Think Wetherspoons but worse. There is no restaurant area! They keep that quiet when you book, far worse than any other similarly priced golf stay. Breakfast was varied and in its own room, oh great I thought, why can't they do this for dinner? But wait, food was all cold, juice machine didn't work, coffee machine didn't work. Bar service is ridiculously slow. All in all as great as the golf was, the rest was average at best. If you're booking an overnight stay, be prepared for a virtually non-existent and in no way remotely luxurious dinner experience.

I wasn’t going to write a negative review, as I wrote to the hotel instead to rectify the issues. They chose not to respond to my correspondence. My family and I stayed at Meon Valley for four nights for the Easter break. We encountered of a number of issues during our stay. They are detailed as follows: On arrival to the hotel, our ground floor room wasn’t ready. Waited 30 minutes for cleaning. On arrival in room, our 11 year old found remnants of a used condom. This was reported to the receptionist and they said they would pass this on to housekeeping/manager - the room wasn’t cleaned until Sunday (two days later), when the condom remnants were finally removed. There were charges for pool that we weren’t aware of prior to booking . We wouldn’t have booked this hotel, knowing this. Rude staff in pool- told my family that they had overstayed their time, even though we weren’t made aware of time restrictions after payment. Poor food quality in the bar on the first night, we didn’t eat at the hotel again after this, except for the breakfast. Took (miniature breed) dog to breakfast on day one and were told by staff it was fine to bring him in. Day two, I was accosted by staff member who said the dog wasn’t allowed in- humiliating and loud in front of packed dining room. Staff inconsistent with rules and the hotel was advertised as dog friendly. Room not cleaned daily so had to ask for towels and toilet roll for five day stay. On the last day no buffet breakfast available- had to order individually. No croissants and pastries available on a number of days and when asked staff to replenish them, they weren’t brought out. Staff were generally rude and clearly overworked and under supported.

We are a couple who stayed in the hotel for a golf spa weekend via spabreaks. We purchased two packages (golf and non golfer). This package included a hotel room, golf for my husband (Saturday and Sunday), the hotel room, dinner for two and breakfast for two. The cost of the spa and gym are not included. i paid £5 per day to use the spa. I booked the spa before check out on check out day to get the £5 spa rate (otherwise £12). Overall the room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Overall, the hotel is pleasant but needs updating in areas. The dinner food portions were good, clearly mostly oven/freezer food, but did the job and was tasty all the same for the price we paid. The staff were friendly and helpful but lacked knowledge. The waitresses, bar staff and golf shop staff didn't know answers to questions when asked. Overall, good value for money and would stay here again if we were in the area.

We booked our family Christmas day lunch at this hotel. Wow what a disastrous day!! We would advise anyone booking a Christmas meal at this hotel to think twice. The menu was changed, room was not decorated and the food was like a canteen meal. When we complained to the hotel management team they did not want to know and consequently we sought legal advice.
