We had a Virgin Experience voucher to stay here (breakfast included), and picked it for a Thursday evening.

Staff were helpful and friendly and the room was nice and clean. The only downside with the room was that the windows were slightly draughty, however the comfy bed made up for it! The hotel from the outside looks quite dated, however areas of the hotel have been done up e.g. the bar/brasserie/breakfast area which was lovely to have a drink in in the evening. We had a free drinks voucher (with the loyalty scheme) however a rum and coke was £5.90 (quite pricey!)

We went and used the pool and steam room in the evening (included in the stay) and although the changing rooms were quite outdated, the pool was lovely and warm and it was nice to have a relax. There was a swimming class going on however the pool was clearly divided and although noisy did not take away from the experience.

Breakfast in the morning was lovely. We went down at about 9am and it was very quiet and we had the buffet to ourselves at first. There was a great selection of hot foods, pastries, fruit, granola, juices etc. One of the best buffet breakfasts I have had!

Checkout also wasn't until 12pm which was great for us as we didn't have plans until the afternoon so had some chill time in the hotel room.

Overall a lovely stay and would stay again if in the area.

I stayed at this hotel with a group of girls for a spa weekend. We had a package booked with dinner, breakfast and spa access. We paid a good price and got what you would expect for the cost. My friend had a massage in the spa and said it was nice. The pool area was quiet, even though it was a Saturday and was clean.
Rooms were standard, as you may expect from this type of hotel. Beds were comfy and clean but bathroom could do with refreshing as the bath was a little dirty. Kettle, tea and coffee in room.
We used the hotel restaurant and was slightly disappointed as the steaks were not cooked as requested for any of our orders and the meat was very tough. Despite food being sent back this was not rectified. However, the waitress was really nice and helpful and tried her best to put things right. The manager on the other hand did not show any empathy, he just seemed more interested in how much he could part charge us for our meals. For example, my friend ordered carbonara with chicken on but found the pasta inedible, and the manager stood at our table asking us if we think he should charge is for the chicken. I personally find that a bit low in terms of customer service. That being said we did not end up paying any extra than the allowance included in our package once I reminded him of what good customer service means. I must add not all food was bad as others in our group enjoyed their meal. Starters were spot on too.
Breakfast was nice - buffet style full English items as well as yogurts, pastries and cereals.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here. Staff were friendly and hotel was comfortable.

Stayed here for 2 nights with friends each having our own room, mainly to attend a concert at Leeds castle. The first room I was given was unbelievably hot and I’m a cold person. The heat hit me as I opened the door it was so bad. After speaking to reception I was offered another room which was much better. Another member of staff in reception heard me talking to the receptionist about it and confirmed the boiler was faulty and needed to be turned down but maintenance had left for the day! The rooms were as you’d expect but clean and comfortable, although we didn’t haven’t them serviced as apparently you have to put a sign on your door to tell the cleaners. None of our rooms had these signs on the door to use which was annoying. Surely a simple idea would be to advise customers as they check of this policy. After we asked for a top up of the tea/coffee milk etc as our rooms had not been serviced we merely received a plastic bag left on the side in our rooms which seemed very off hand. There is quite a pleasant outside seating area by the bar/breakfast area. Breakfast was good with helpful staff. There were wedding receptions taking place both nights of our stay but the music stopped at midnight so no problem but a few of the guests were noisy early hours of the morning sadly in their rooms and corridors.
Overall it was a nice stay. Although we thought is was a bit much doubling the price of the rooms for the night of the concert.

Dear windsorci Thank you for your review and comments which are appreciated. I am pleased you enjoyed the breakfast, the outside space and were allocated a room more comfortable for you. We do have a new boiler room using plate heater technology, but the radiators in each room can be regulated to your preference. Thanks for your patience with the wedding parties and I hope you enjoyed the Concert at the Castle next door. With kind regards Dominic

This hotel is not fully re-opened following COVID -19 and I’m concerned for the checks that are carried out.
Bar is not open.
No food available in restaurant until 4pm, this includes breakfast which is simply a grab and go paper bag without crockery to eat it off, who wants to butter a croissant on their lap? The blueberry muffins provided were frozen and not fresh (storage instructions on package gave this away) it isn’t against any current government guidelines for bars not to be open or a hot breakfast to be served (I understand it can’t be a buffet but many pubs and restaurants are able to offer cooked breakfast without buffet) this is simply management not wanting to return all staff from furlough resulting in a lower service provision.

It took them 3 attempts to find us a twin room despite having phoned the evening before to confirm this was what we had booked. First room was lovely but had a king bed. Second room was nowhere near as nice (tiled floor at entrance way) and much smaller bed, curtains were drawn etc but still a double bed! Finally got a twin room (after traipsing with our luggage to each room!) again not to the same standard as the first room we’d seen but at least it had 2 beds! Cup of tea time! Except the UHT milk provided was out of date which I discovered once it was floating in my tea. Expiry date - May 2020 so the room more than likely hadn’t been looked at/checked/cleaned since before lockdown! Hmmm surely that should be a standard? With or without a pandemic that you check a room on a regular basis, hotels have been reopened for 2 months. This is unacceptable and calls into question their cleanliness standards. Also only paper cups and wooden stirrers in the room. Even costa and Starbucks are offering crockery and cutlery again!
Room was small you had to move the chair in the dressing table to get into the tiny wardrobe. Barely room to walk between the two beds.
Other issues: could only get a dinner reservation for 7:20 not 7:30. There were only about 4 tables occupied the entire evening, not sure why we couldn’t have come 10 mins later! Steaks were over cooked and sent back. Medium rare but were well done so completely overcooked. They were apologetic and offered us complementary desserts but nonetheless it was off putting.
The pool (which is run by a gym and not the hotel but as part of the hotel they need to take responsibility for) was dark and dingy. Sun loungers were not matching. The ceiling is disgusting and needs a complete overhaul. With gov guidelines you need to use an app to book which is fine but annoyingly you can’t book more than one per slot so if you and your group all want to go you have to all download the app.
The statue dogs everywhere were cute tho. Disappointing that there were two very different standards of rooms and then that the cleanliness/products weren’t checked. Will not be returning.

So we stayed here as a lastminute.com deal, £99 for two people, spa access, one night, breakfast and 2 course dinner and we literally have nothing bad to say.

Staff- was lovely! the girl behind the bar was so nice, we had a long convo about gin!
Ladies behind reception was so helpful, they gave us a free drink behind the bar as our room was taking a while to be ready.
Staff also organised a little surprise for our anniversary in our room.
Spa was nice! Pool was a good temperature, not too busy either.
Food was lovely! bit of a shame that my boyfriend had the salmon and there was a tiny piece of salmon about 5 potatoes and small amount of veg, and it was expensive, i understand salmon is expensive but a bit bigger portion would have been appreciated.
Room was nice, we had a nice view over the river and the bed was so comfy.

If your somebody that expects 5* then do not bother, however if your a couple or family that want a nice weekend away then 100% come to this hotel! you've got the town centre with shops near by so we went for desert and its next to a nice lake to walk around.
Overall we were very happy!

I stayed here both Friday and Saturday night there were weddings and my room was close to the function suite and is extremely noisy all night, there are two fire alarms late at night which woke me up. So very poor sleep. Room was clean and bed and bedding were comfortable.
The main problem I had was due to allergies it was worrying the restaurant staff lack of training and understanding. On breakfast there was a book on display so you could check out exactly what allergies foods had. I was disappointed to hear one waitress say to a waiter that she’ll just get a dodgy tummy if she eats that. So I’m not entirely sure they understand allergies can be life-threatening and need to be taken seriously. In the evening again I had a problem that the servers lack of knowledge so I asked to speak to the chef who came out to talk to me and was amazing with his help and then provided me with a three course dinner which was beautiful I was extremely grateful to him for his help and level of professionalism. If I hadn’t been for him I would not have eaten that evening as I had no trust in the service stuff and the menu did not describe if something was dairy free just vegan, it took me an hour just to get my starter. It would definitely be helpful to clarify if something is dairy free if it contains fish meat or eggs. I also bought my own milk which I asked to be put in the refrigerator but I was told it couldn’t be as there might be some cross contamination even though it was a sealed carton I was informed that they had that milk anyway and I could have it for breakfast when I came down the next day there was none available just soya oat and almond milk. I’d rather they have told me the truth. Obviously I understand it’s very difficult to cater for someone when they have allergies to both gluten and dairy.
If you prepay before you arrive be careful as I was also charged on departure so I had to email and request a refund. Swimming pool and spa area was quite dirty the ladies changing rooms toilet bins are overflowing and stunk the hot tub wasn’t clean not a particular pleasant experience. I’d imagine this hotel was beautiful 20 years ago it certainly needs an update and isn’t worth it for the money they are charging. Obviously this is just my opinion. I had to stay here due to a business conference so it wasn’t a chosen location however I did expect it to be a lot nicer by the websites description.

So as a belated honeymoon trip I decided to treat my wife to a lovely lakeside view spa weekend(using the spa package deal) which we were both fully looking forward to. When we got checked in and went up to our room we looked out the window and could see a tree along with the bright pink mercure sign in the background and the loud sounds of ventilation fans which we believe are the kitchen fans. There was no lakeside view whatsoever. The carpet was stained. The only nice thing about the room was they had done some towels like swans and provided 2 small glass bottles (no bottle opener) of pepsi, 2 bags of crisp and 2 chocolate bars. To make matters worse I tripped over the carpet door bar which was not laid down properly. When we spoke to the receptionist and said we believe we were in the wrong room his response was "we left stuff in your room and shrugged off the fact that we weren't getting what we paid extra for. I told him that we were not going to pay the extra amount which he did in the end take off. We asked if we could be moved to a room with a better view like we had booked/pa He told us to speak to reception the next day to see if they have had any cancellations. When we spoke to reception the next day they did manage to move us to a slightly more appealing view. We then decided to check the pool out and I have to say I have not been in a more disgusting pool, I have never seen a pool that you cant see the bottom of the pool due to the dirt it was soo murky the same with the hot tub the dirty foam covered the hot tub. The paving in the courtyard was soo uneven my wife nearly fell over a couple of times out there. We had a 3 course meal included in our package but was not made aware that you could only have a very few select items and because we don't eat sea food or hummous or olives etc made for very slim pickings on the menu. Also, in our room there was this weird metal ring on the floor that my partner stubbed her toe on. All in all we were not impressed with our stay we felt that the 4 stars isn't representative of the quality and actually would say I have stayed in better 1/2 star places. I would like to say that I believe the gentleman we dealt with on the first night was the reception manager and if this is the case I believe he is in the wrong position because he did not make any attempt to resolve our unhappiness, however the lady the next day Chelsee was lovely she really did try to help however, still not enough to resolve our complain

Firstly when we arrived there was no record of my online payment that I had done two weeks ago so I had to prove to the receptionist that I paid by showing them my bank statement on my phone. Then they asked for a card and then charged £30 to it without any explanation. When we asked what it was for they just said it was an estimate of what we would spend. However being told that beforehand would have been nice.
I had paid extra for the privilege room with "lakeside view"- couldn't see a lake at all!! Also the heating was up so high in the room it was like a sauna and there was a brown stain on the ceiling.. The furniture looked old, tired and dated. The leather chairs were worn out and broken. All of the 'wooden' furniture was chipped/scratched. There was only 4 nespresso pods in the room and only enough milk for two decent coffees. Definitely not enough supplies.
The breakfast was nice, there was a lovely selection of foods to choose from. This is the only positive.
We went to the bar for drinks in the evening and this was also a very disappointing experience. The barman, who looked very young, admitted that he didn't know how to make the mojito cocktails that we ordered. (well he only told us this after he gave us the god awful drinks) He spent 10 minutes making them and repeatedly going back and forth to the kitchen. What we ended up with was a disgusting drink but we didn't have time to complain because our taxi was waiting outside to take us to an event. We were still charged £9 for the drinks that were horrible.

I had paid for late checkout upto 6pm on the Sunday which was £20 extra. At around 2 o'clock a cleaner tried to come into our room, luckily we had the chain across the door so they couldn't get in. She seemed surprised we were still there and said that someone had told her we had checked out. We also noticed that our room key had stopped working so the reception had actually checked us out. When we contacted the reception they implied it was our fault and asked if we put the card by a magnet which would stop it working? It was ridiculous. It's a good job we hadn't gone out for the day and come back to a locked, cleaned up room. When we went to reception to get a new working card the receptionist gave no explanation or an apology for the mix up. We should have been refunded the £20. We left soon after as we were fed up. They don't care about customer service at all. Extremely disappointed, I don't understand how they're still in business. Never staying here again.

We had a lovely four day stay with the kids.

I would definitely recommend it for both work and leisure. It makes a great base to explore Leeds castle, local restaurants and the surrounding area when you are not using the hotel facilities.

The staff were very welcoming.

The rooms were very clean, light and airy and the beds were so very comfortable (we all slept very well). Our rooms had a hairdryer, ironing board with iron and a tea and coffee tray that we did not use.

The pool/spa area was a lovely place to relax with the kids. The sauna and steam room were functional and we used them daily, the jacuzzi was ok too.
The changing rooms are clean and have showers, lockers, loos and changing rooms.
There are sun loungers dotted around the pool and there is seating in the upper area.
The pool has a shallow end of around 1.1 meters which slopes to 2.1 meters at the deep end. We spent hours in the pool at different times of the day, it was never over crowded but, I was slightly irritated by a few visitors who did not shower before getting in the pool (obviously, the big signs asking people to shower were not enough).
I really enjoyed chatting to some friendly local people who are members.

The breakfast each morning was a pleasure. Its a clean, relaxing environment with warm welcoming staff. There is a good selection of tea, coffee and juice. Both hot and cold fresh options, I enjoyed the strawberry smoothies and fresh fruit with my fry up.

There is plenty of parking, but if there is a conference on you may have to park at the back of the hotel by the tennis courts.

We did not get a chance to play with the outdoor chess set, may be next time.

We will definitely be staying again.

Having spent a gloriously sunny day at Leeds Castle, we decided to stay at this hotel to break the journey back home. We booked the Lakeview suite, room 203. It was like walking into what the 80s thought was high end and stylish and we all remember Changing Rooms! The bed was the most uncomfortable we've ever experienced in a hotel, it was like sleeping on a trampoline with absolutely no support. We had to keep the windows closed due to an invasion of crane flies and the room was extremely hot, our fault we havnt realised that the radiators were on full blast. The windowsill in the bedroom lifted up at the right hand side. The lights above the bathroom mirror burned your face with the heat coming out of them and the water from the tap had a musty smell. The Brassiere was disappointing, but the service both at dinner and breakfast was excellent. The one high spot was the sticky toffee pudding and the black pudding, but I'm afraid we wont be back.

The beds here are generally regarded as very comfortable, but we all have a preference of course. I am pleased you enjoyed the great service in the Brasserie, but sorry you wont be returning.
