Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The hotel is quite old but nice. In the village centre, it is close to many shops. The room was small but clean, probably with too much furniture.
Unluckily on our last day it had been extremely windy and a terrible coal smell came in from the bathroom fan. We had almost to hold our breath while on the bathroom.
The service was ok. Breakfast was really expensive.

This hotel obviously gets a lot of its business from people travelling to the Gorges du Verdon and was full the day we arrived. It is typical French not internationalised which we liked. With the good restaurant and breakfast it provides all you need for a night or 2 on your travels. It is clean and the service was good. There is free parking just next to the hotel. Comps is a picturesque peaceful village, and an ideal stop over point. I will stay again if in the area. Thanks.

Have driven by this hotel/restaurant many times but never stopped. It holds the record for the longest same family run hotel/restaurant - since 1737 (9th generation!).
We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed a delicious meal of local foods (chevreuil, sanguins, truites, morilles, agneau). Copious dishes and some enjoyed the tripes.
Hope to go back sometime soon.

The place is nearly otherworldly, in the evening not a single car drove by in two hours. Good bar, decent rooms with the smell of village. Come if you want a respite from town life.

And it's silly on the part of tripadvisor to push the contributors to write long reviews

I come here for more than 25 years now and every time it is a pleasure! Here you can find recepies that did not change for decades. This familiy runs the hotel for several generations.
Come here for the authentic provencal dishes: ommelette, daube, paté and terrine, lamb and of course truffle... do not forget to start with a pastis! ;o)

Staying in what the Guinness Book of World Records cites as the oldest hotel operated continuously by descendants of the same family was a fascinating and delightful experience. Established in 1737, the inn has been pleasantly modernized, while still retaining its historic charm. The family is obviously proud of the establishment and its history. Our room with bath was clean and neat and had a beautiful view over the countryside. We ate both dinner and breakfast at the hotel, both of which were reasonably priced, offered good choices, were well-prepared and delicious. We would love to return some day.

The hotel is perfectly suited to its location near the eastern end of the Grand Canyon du Verdon-- simple, charming, and comfortable. While an elevator would be nice, I would not wish for one to be added, if it did damage to the historic building housing the hotel.

Comps-sur-Artuby is a delightful town for strolling its quaint streets and squares and hiking up to the 13th-century Romanesque Chapelle Saint-Andre. Because the chapel is flood-lit at night, we took the steep hike after dinner to walk off some of our delicious meal. Be forewarned, however, that the lights go out at 22:00, so best to take a flashlight.

staying in the end of August the place was quite busy but we always found spot on the outside terrace to sit and relax. service is nice if you are relaxed and not want to spoil your days with rush and to much demand. Food was good. Position is good and stunning views give plus to this place.

This is a lovely traditional hotel in an adorable town. The restaurant is friendly and the food was very tasty. It really is an old fashioned place, and could perhaps get better options for vegetarians, but overall a lovely experience.

I made a detour, actually a long detour to stop by the restaurant of Grand Hotel Bain as I had such memory for this place and the kind and smiling owners. It was a new generation of this family dynasty who hosted me with the same professionalism and kindness as what I remember.
The food was such delight from a menu with appetizers, main course and dessert. I choose the omelette aux fines herbes as a unusual starter but to be one of the best ever I had in my life. Again, I took the uncommon Tripe Nicoise, which was superbly prepared and finishing with another rare ile flottante, which I had not had for a few decades but still of a such joy to appreciate.
I didn't lodge this time but would stay again with these people again and any time I would be passing by a few hours away.

We stopped in Comps-sur-Arby, on our way to the Gorge de Verdon, and called at the Grand Hotel Bain for lunch. Which was excellent, with a very good menu. Good food well cooked and presented and served by helpful staff. The diningroom has wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. Before you leave buy a pot of M. Bains wonderful orange conserve it turns your breakfast toast into a dream. We hope to return for a longer visit soon.
