Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had the most sublime wedding weekend at Springkell - which we hired on an exclusive use basis to host our family and friends over 2 nights for a wedding celebration. From the moment we met the team at Springkell we felt we had found “the one” but we couldn’t have known just how right that choice was. We knew picking the right team was just as important as a beautiful setting but the service that we received from the Springkell team was really stand out. They helped us with our last minute organisation (we booked in June for an October wedding!) and had a well curated list of recommended suppliers, with no pressure to restrict ourselves to this list - although we used lots of people from it, who were all excellent. Even beyond the beautiful grounds and stunning setting Springkell offered us the ability to really make our wedding our own (we had a Scottish/Indian mishmash). From the rugby World Cup final in the sitting room, with a roaring fire and tea and coffee, to a dance floor that switched from a ceilidh, to Bollywood music and on to classic covers - the venue is adaptable and able to be tailored to your needs. The rooms are beautifully appointed and there was a range of accommodation from cottages to family rooms to suit our guests. The food was absolutely delicious - our guests are still talking about the pulled pork brioche rolls in the evening buffet. However, the absolute stand out for us was the impeccable service from the Springkell team. Everyone was invested in making sure the weekend went to plan and we’ve lost count of the compliments our guests have shared regarding the staff going above and beyond. I would not hesitate to recommend this to couples planning a wedding, or for anyone looking to spend some time in this beautiful part of the world.

I was due to visit Springkell to attend a friends wedding, however, the day before (Saturday) I was due to arrive I suffered a loss in my immediate family and subsequently had been unable to attend. I called them 24 hours beforehand and was told it would be passed on explaining the circumstances and would receive a call back on Monday. I received no call back. I called them back myself and was told that due to it being the day before I was unable to receive a refund but they would look into it further and come back. They still didn’t come back. So I called back the next day asking if there was any update and was told James himself denied it. Asked if I could speak to James and he was unavailable so I asked for his email. I sent a long email explaining the circumstances and was met with a bog standard email of “our refund policy is 7 days”. Which is different to that of what I was told on the phone. I do note that the Bride and Groom also enquired with the front desk upon their arrival and was told I would be issued a refund due to the circumstances. I emailed James immediately back and to date am yet to receive a response. And so brings us to today, I called and actually managed to speak to James. Not an ounce of compassion and again met with obstruction and no understanding. Crazy to think a business who reaps thousands upon thousands of pounds are unable to issue refunds (£220) for unforeseen circumstances where a family member dies. Perhaps I should have attended and brought the mood down instead of mourning the loss of a family member.

We've had 3 visits to Springkell and it's definitely our 'happy place' as a family. Our first visit was May half term 2023 where we were blown away with the rhododenrons which are breathtaking. We stayed in Stables Cottage. Our second visit was for a wedding in August 2023 which was absolutely stunning and we stayed in Chauffeurs Cottage. Our most recent visit at October half term was once again, a wonderful stay in Stables Cottage. Dog friendly. Fab staff. Amazing grounds. Highly recommended.

Stunning place to stay, the views are amazing and there’s plenty to see wandering around the grounds. The staff are really friendly and helpful, the rooms are beautifully set out and clean. The evening meal was delicious and so was breakfast. A lovely peaceful place to stay, we will definitely be staying again.

A beautiful building set in beautiful grounds. I think it’s principal business is weddings and functions but we used it for an overnight stay on a journey north. It’s remarkably good value for money - I’d suggest spending a little more for a higher spec room; money well spent and it’s still cheap. The breakfast was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. My one reservation was dinner which was OK but pricey - and there’s no alternative choice nearby.

Booked in for an overnight stay by a colleague as a stop on my way back from a business trip. Lovely peaceful location with extensive grounds. Price including breakfast comparable with a Premier Inn but it was a totally different experience. I guess the rooms are all individual. I was allocated a room with a bathroom (for exclusive use) across the corridor. Unfortunately I could not get a signal on the TV so was moved to a nicer room with an luxury on suite. The TV still didn’t work - again there appeared to be a problem with the aerial. There was however a good wi-if signal so I was able to access iPlayer through the TV - not sure though whether I could have been able to stream other channels. The bed was comfortable with a long duvet but I woke up a bit chilly in the night. The central heating was not on and although there were heavy curtains I think the single pane glass window didn’t provide enough insulation when it got colder. There was a portable electric heater that I was able to turn on to provide a bit more warmth. I couldn’t understand why the toilet paper in the bathroom was the thinnest single ply tissue I have ever used. I would have expected better quality in a roll from Poundland! Overall I think the hotel was let down by a little lack of attention to detail. I would surmise that it is run by the family that own the estate rather than experienced hoteliers. Breakfast was very good. I am not sure that I could wholeheartedly recommend the Springkell but then for an overnight stay on a business trip I just want a room which I know will deliver exactly what I want.

Visited with our daughter (bride to be May 2024) to pre plan for wedding. Beautiful period venue inside and out. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. Made to feel very welcomed by James and Fiona, who are dedicated to everyone having the best experience possible during their stay at Springkell House. So very excited for our daughters and her future husband's special day in May.

A lovely place to break your journey with nice sized rooms, comfortable beds, and good food in the restaurant. The family rooms were large with plenty of space. We enjoyed a meal inthe restaurant in the evening and enjoyed relaxing in the lounge before Dinner.

Beautiful house in a beautiful part of the country, the room was lovely and comfortable and the staff which I believe, many are family members were super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. I only wish I had more time whilst visiting to explore the grounds!
