Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was my girlfriend's first visit and my second visit after 14 years! The hosts were so warm and friendly and cooked amazing food for us. Our hosts told us of all the wonderful Sherpa and Buddhist history. Lastly, I left my toiletry bag and they managed to get it all the way to Kathmandu to me! Amazing service

The male owner here is terribly tight with money. He told us we could charge our phone 'unlimited', for 150 rps, but when the bill came he had charged us 300 rps. 500 rps for a cheese omelette (that you don't pay that much for further up!) And no fire at night because we were only 4 people. He wanted to save money on the fire wood. (It was 2 degrees outside, when we entered the dining room!) The bill had a long list of items that we had to question, and from beginning to end, the owner was gruff and unfriendly. It was 3° outside the dining room when we left, happy to go! Maybe the owner needs to lite a fire and warm himself up a bit. This was our least friendly stay, and it was warmer up in Namche and further up, where the lodge owners lit fires in the dining rooms and didn't price gouge.

Stayed here on our EBC trek. Apart from us there was only one other traveller so the owner wouldn't put the fire on in the meal room. The thermometer showed zero degrees. We were overcharged on our bill too. Would not recommend this place at all. Unless of course you want to freeze and be overcharged.

Don't expect any frills while staying here. The rooms are basic - small (but comfortable) with two single beds, one overhead light and a communal washroom down the hall. A hot shower is available for a charge though I can't vouch for them. Get a room on the second floor not overlooking the street - the rooms at the front get smoke from the dining room stove. The restaurant serves up a wide variety of dishes. The best one voted by our group was the Sherpa Stew. Note: this lodge is located in Phakding, a days hike south of Namche Bazar.

We stayed a total of 4 nights in this lodge when we were on the way up to EBC and back from it. The first two nights were amazing. Clean rooms, hot showers and nice food. Didn’t pay for the wifi so couldn’t comment on the speed. But Ncell has pretty good signal in Namchee. The last two nights was miserable not because of the food nor shower nor the room. It is because of the family who runs this lodge. The lady charged us 10% and 23% tax on EVERYTHING including hot & cold shower and toilet paper, claiming this is a new policy in the Khumbu region which we later found out was a complete nonsense. This extra tax when compared to the bill was a few dollars more which means really nothing to us who comes from a wealthier country. After all, it is the principle and integrity that matter the most when running a business. We came back and recommended more trekkers staying in the lodge. The only difference was that we lunched out one day and did not use the charging there. We suspected this might be the reason that they were trying to squeeze more money out from us. If you are not happy that we spent only USD5 less, you should just set a minimum spending and have a poster up on the wall (we had breakfast, dinner and shower still, that’s quite a decent amount of money.) So we challenged the tax policy and asked when this was implemented because we weren’t charged any tax in Namchee or the teahouses higher up. She made this up by saying it was implemented on 1 April and will be implemented on the higher altitude as well. We checked the lodge next to it and the staff said there’s no tax in Namchee. I am appalled by how she can act like as if this is real and still charged 5 of us tax! We trekkers enter Sagarmartha National Park has already paid 2,000 rupees which covers the tax implemented by the government. We do not need to pay any tax in the region. Now this lodge is now blacklisted by 5 trekkers who will definitely return to Nepal and will not recommend this lodge to any of our friends.

I had this lodge recommended to me and i wasn't disappointed. I stayed 3 nights in total, 2 on the way up the trek and 1 when returning. I found rooms very comfty, would recommend top floor, facing mountain for amazing views. Food was great, and hot shower was to die for. Family who run the lodge are very lovely people and made my stay amazing.

This is one of the 'luxury' lodges in the area. In this part of the world electricity and running water cannot be taken for granted - there is no such thing as a Western style hotel; The Shangri-La however seems to strive for success and does a good job. Food is good, as indeed is the hospitality. Hot showers are available. The rooms / cabins are simple and ok. From the restaurant one has the best possible views of plane landings and take-offs; worth going there for that alone.

I stayed here on my ascent and descent of EBC. The tea house is separate (just across the road) from the bedrooms. Food is good. Wifi fast (unlimited is 500rupees so a good investment of you are staying 2 days in Namche to acclimatise). Some of the rooms are better than others. Shower is pleasant. Recommended.
