This is a gem out of nowhere, discretely located inside an unassuming hotel. The decor itself was very modern, the restaurant filled with clients "in the know" -- obviously from around the Bassac area near or in the Cognac region. Clientele looked quite sophisticated. No wonder. The food was amazing, with impeccable and friendly service. The venison was exceptional! Others...

We went for lunch midweek to celebrate a family birthday. We opted to eat inside but there is a terrace open in good weather. We later opted to take coffee outside. The restaurant is spacious and airy. We ordered off the 50€ set menu. They start at 35€ but a midweek "menu du jour" is avalable at 18€50. We thoroughly...

We took a group of 12 couples, all driving pre-1930 M.G. cars to l'Essille in June 2015. The welcome and service from the attentive staff and the meals exceeded our expectations. Hotel management arranged local tours, boat rides and visits to Cognac & Pineau manufacturers. The meals were varied and delicious. A few rooms would benefit from some T.L.C., but...

Very old building, in a village in remote Cognac region of France. Well-renovated and in picturesque garden surrounds (especially the dining room area, inside and outside options. Upmarket restaurant style: large plates and prices, smallish portions, but tasty nevertheless. Large, comfortable room and ensuite. Good on-site free parking. Free Wifi OK. Historic abbey a few minutes' walk away... open and...

Offhand reception and, although no-one else was around, the chap couldn't take the time to show us where the room was. Spacious, dark room and bathroom, sparsely furnished. Bed linen OK but towels awful being thin, hard and their bath size was like a hand towel. Best bit was the balcony which would have had a lovely view across their...

I was driving past last week, it is near my holiday home, and for the first time turned in to sample their lunch. The lunch menu was quite simply superb and excellent value. Service was really good, just as it should be effective but unobtrusive. I will return certainly

Having done no research and arriving after a long walk we were pleasantly surprised the restaurant & bar they are really nice there is a nice atmosphere, we ate inside although outside did look very inviting. We didn't choose the most expensive menu which looked very good but wasn't blown away with what we had, a pork terrine with snails...

What a lovely wine country hotel, located in the heart of the Cognac Region. Excellent location, very comfortable and clean rooms. One of the best restaurants I know. Food is outstanding, wine just there, perfect, and service and hospitality? Like family. Not to be missed. Worth it!
