West Burton is a gorgeous village with nice walks, village green and this great pub. We went for family lunch and there were good options for kids, friendly staff and reasonable prices. A cosy pub, nice atmosphere and good staff. Will definitely visit again.

What a lovely village, a shop, a pup and a waterfall all with a set of stocks on the green if you misbehave. Having visited the waterfall walking distance was the Fox and Hounds so in we went gasping for a coffee and a bacon butty. Along came the hard working landlord and served up our food and drinks then off we went for another walk. A hour later we returned and since the bacon butties were so good we had another round of them.

Recently stayed here for a night with the wife as part of a little get away. On the whole, no issues with checking in or the room. I'm not quite sure how it makes a 4 star hotel, but for the price and location, the rooms are more than adequate for a B&B. Very dated and in need of a bit of modernisation, but clean and presentable. There is no parking on site, and being a small village, it's fine leaving a car on the road just a bit further down from the pub. The lady I initially spoke to said they had room to park motorcycles in the small courtyard (we were on a bike) which was correct. Seemed nice and secure and right outside the room. So why have I given it 1 star? Well, the meals and service is what dragged it right down. After a long day riding, we de-kitted and headed to the pub/restaurant for food in search of a fresh homemade hearty meal. The reviews had been good, so I had high hopes. We ordered a meal each (She had the salmon and I had the home made suet steak and kidney pudding). It arrived quite quickly, but sadly my "pudding" was frozen in the middle. Not just cold, frozen. I returned to the bar to let them know... Whilst not ideal, I appreciate that mistakes do happen. Sometime later, they returned with another plate (after my wife had finished eating her meal) . Whilst not frozen, it wasn't warm in the middle and was colder the further I got into it. Sadly it still wasn't edible. I again returned to the bar to let them know. Not even a "sorry". Just a grunt and asked if I wanted another one... I choose not too (mainly as the salmon the wife had was a frozen one that had been defrosted and wasn't that great - as they had attempted to do with my meal). I did ask if there was anywhere local that was open that we could get a meal at, and was told that there wasn't at this time of day (18:40 ish). Not content with this, I took to Google... and found the nearest village about 25 mins away did have a few restaurants and takeaways. I opted to ride back out with wife and find something decent to eat together as originally planned. Whilst I appreciate that things can go wrong in a kitchen and microwaves are sometimes difficult to use, the inability of the staff to even apologise for not being able to serve food was really poor and for me a clear indication of poor service. Had that been one of my businesses, I'd genuinely have been embarrassed to have that happen once, let alone twice. But to offer nothing as way of an apology and only suggest that they would knock the frozen/cold meal off the bill is really poor. We order two meals... Not one so I could watch my wife eat and then take an hour out of my evening to have to travel elsewhere to find food. Really poor guys. You had your chance to apologise and instead in the morning at check out all I got was "I've knocked the meal off you didn't eat" and "I don't know what happened with the meal last night". Wow... Maybe don't cook things if you don't understand that frozen food needs to be defrosted first... ? Had the response to the food issue been better, I'd have stayed again... Would I now? Not a chance! Your inability to deal with this at the time once given the opportunity is why I've chose to make my review public.

I had booked accommodation in what I thought would be a cosy country pub, with a nice bar and a place where we could eat. When we walked in our hearts sank. It was a dated scruffy bar, with a room attached which looked like a Community centre, with an old patterned carpet and plastic table cloths It states parking, but we wete told only if you have a mini. !!! The rooms were no better, mine had dehumidifiers in as it probably damp. The bathroom was from the 1960s. The hot tap only worked sometimes and that stopped altogether when you flushed the loo. I had to use the bath as the shower was useles. We then went down for a meal as we were tired after travelling, it was bland and obviously warmed up. Breakfast was aweful as well. Don't stay here!!!! Why they think they are 4 star accomodation I cannot imagine. I would not give it 1 star.

Called in for a drink and lunch. Very disappointed. Found it very expensive. Just under £30 for two sandwiches with chips, pint of shandy and a white wine. Hubbie had bacon sandwich. Three slices of undercooked bacon in a bap. I ordered fish finger sandwich which when it came looked like three overcooked sausages. Didnt even half fill the bap. Not even any salad garnish. Pub smelt of old cooking oil. Might call in for a drink next time we staying in the area but never for food.

On our day in the dales we found this little pub between a walk along the Ure River waterfalls and a hike on a footpath. Good coffee and tea cakes by a fireplace was just what we needed on a snowy day. Given the chance I would return for a meal and ale. The proprietor was extremely helpful, friendly and gracious.

Room had new carpet and bedding but very run down. Paper signs stuck to wall, paintwork grubby. Shower cubicle was dark and depressing looked unclean and claustrophobic, no lighting in cubicle. Entrance through the archway was unsafe, uneven cobbles and concrete. Looked like a dumping site for rubbish. No menu available for breakfast, my meal was very poor. Although 3 people in the kitchen were looking through the window on the door, no one checked to see if the meal was good. By the time I got chance to speak to someone our group had finished so had to make do with cheese and biscuits, or wait for another meal and eat alone. Photos available but will not download.

We booked a one night stay in the Fox and Hounds (a place we had not visited in 25 years) Nothing had changed to be honest, picturesque village, lovely walks and a nice small pub. The room was nice although basic We were happy with the price charged, the breakfast was as expected and the surroundings comfortable. The people in the pub on the night were fairly friendly. We will 100% return again soon for another few night's away. The only two points I would change would be to offer a slightly earlier breakfast so you can eat and be off for the day earlier and I think a larger TV is a must in the room. All in all a very nice stay. Thank you to the host and we hope to see you again soon
