Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here a few years ago and was a great site, very clean and friendly and in a fabulous location. I am trying to re-book but can't seem to get hold of anyone - Is it still open for bookings? Cheers matt

We looked at the webpage and it looked amazing. So we called up and booked a pitch. We were told that they only had pitches without EHU available, which wasn't a problem and there was no seaview. Wasn't quite sure what we were expecting due to the mix reviews. The place is adequate, with toilets and shower block, disable/baby changing room and washroom. Well kept grounds and facilities well maintained. The webpage gives you a drone shot video of Runswick bay, which I thought was where we were staying. Which wasn't far off. The site itself, is on a hill site, with no view of the beach. The beach itself, is only a 10 mins awalk away from the site. It's literally across the road and down a steep hill. A wonderful sandy stretch of beach set in a picturesque location. We would return again.

We looked at the website & it stated there are 15 pitches with electric hook up, some are hard standing. I rang the site & booked 1 night for 2 people in a campervan. When we got to check in I was very disappointed to find out that our pitch was in a large field down behind the Runswick Bay Hotel and it had no electric hook up at all. This should be clearly stated on the website so that people are aware when booking that near reception there are electric hook up pitches but there is also a large field with no electric at all, ideally for large tents. As this is not stated on the website I automatically presumed that we had booked one of the 15 electric hook up pitches . We will return to the site as we love Runswick Bay but next time when I book over the phone I will ensure that we are on an electric hook up pitch and that we are not placed in the large field.

We did a two night stay here in September 2020. The site is quiet, friendly and the location is incredible. There are building works going on nearby but this was only during 'working' hours so didn't impact us. The toilets and showers do their job, the washing up areas were out of action due to Covid-19 safety precautions. The site is perfect if you want a quiet break away, with incredible views and walks right on your doorstep. We took our 2 year old Boxer with us and it was great being able to take her to the adjoining field for a walk and a wee first thing in the morning. Runswick Bay beach is just gorgeous and the route back to the site is lined with some very good pubs!

Response from Caroline White Welch, Owner at Runswick Bay Caravan and Camping Park
Responded 11 Sept 2020
Thankyou for taking the time out to review our park, Unfortunately, this is not about the park it is about your deposit and how your visit the day before your intended stay played out, You were booked in with us last week and came to view the campsite and pitch number the day before your arrival, I was busy in the office and pointed out to you where you would be pitching up on the day, You asked me where our facilities were an you relayed to your husband that they were a distance from the pitch, you then came to the office to proceed to tell me that the pitches were not what you wanted as the awning your friend had was far to big, yours was ok but there's would struggle, you asked about deposit and returns policy, i quoted its our policy to reschedule dates with in at least 2 weeks before arrival so we can sell that pitch, and not refund at all unless an emergency situation arises, I took your telephone number to call later that day to discuss, unfortunately it got late so my husband called you back the next day, It is then that he received verbal abuse on the phone after he had explained the policy, you even threathened that you were coming down to the office to give me a piece of your mind.. I do believe that is ignorance, also you should read terms on booking policies before you book and just decide to change your mind, You wouldnt be able to change your mind on any hotel booking the day before, Camp site pitches are classed the same.... https://runswickbaycaravanandcampingpark.co.uk/caravan-and-camping/

The place is quite basic, but very well kept. The toilet and shower block was absolutely spotless and so was the site. It is a short walk from Runswick Bay and there is I nice pub/hotel at the end of the road. The only negative is there is no view whatsoever due to hedgeing. Beyond that the views are breathtaking, a pity there in the way.

The campsite has flat pitches, nice grass and all the basic ammenties. Nothing particularly special and there is no view from the site itself. Campfires are explicitly banned but there are 3 luxury camping shacks which each have their own campfire, located in the middle of the camping field. It'd be cool if there was at least one spot for a communal fire. The location makes this place though, Runswick bay is a fantastic beach. There are 2 good pups a short walk away as well. We found the Runswick Bay Hotel to be nice and amily friendly.

The park itself really lovely and clean. Dog friendly for dogs that don,t mind being tied up, we stayed the 7th of Sept till 14th came home early because our dogs don,t like being tied up. We had a very windy and rainy week but that is not the sites fault. We are not camping people. if you are then lovely site. one niggle is that a little shop might be a good investment milk, bacon, sausage, bread local produce overall nice site...

Lovely friendly site. Its in a quiet location ideal for traveling between Whitby and Staithes. Toilets and showers were very clean and looked after. Pitches are a good size, we took a 8 man coleman and also a pup tent too.

last minute booking as no where else had any space (we were supposed to be the other side of the country but the weather washed us out) only stayed two days as that was available. quite an exposed site with high winds which made putting up the tent an absolute nightmare, ended up weighing down the inner with all my possessions inside to stop the whole thing disappearing into the distance. the wind continued for the rest of the stay making very loud nights. Taking it down was not much better. The toilets, the gents were reported to me to be clean and presentable, however the ladies had a terrible smell almost the whole two days, the cubicles are really tight and getting the dog to go in was almost impossible (he goes everywhere with me when I camp). One toilet ended up blocked. The site rules said strictly dogs on leads / tethered at all times, I adhered to this, despite the fact my dog is on the lead about once a week. The rest of the site definitely didn't which annoyed me, but that is probably me being petty. Washing up area was clean and well lit. The site was very cramped and close quarters, way closer than I like to be in. The manager showed me the pitch and we didn't see him or any other staff for the stay. Runswick bay is a lovely place but I will not be returning to this site again
