Located at the top of Runswick Bay, the bay itself is only a 5 minute walk down the bank. When you decide a day on the beach is quite enough you can make your way slowly back up the hill and come join us for a refreshing drink and either a light lunch or a main meal. We are also the ideal location for a short weekend break or a longer stay if you desire. We are situated on the long stretch of coastline and surrounded by the North Yorkshire Moors which makes for a fulfilled stay, as the amount of activities to do are endless. The Cleveland Way runs directly through our car park so we are the ideal spot for a nights stay for a break in your walk, being just a short distance from Whitby. We are proud to support local businesses by supplying local beers, produce and artwork.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I take my two humans with me to the RBH every time we come up to Runners. Just love the people in the pub and of course Ted, who's beginning to get used to me. Besides the super friendly staff, the food is excellent and varied - even if my two humans continuosly go for the Wok Chicken Half and Half! Apparently it goes down really well with the house Malbec. Thanks to Simon, Nicola and the girls for looking after us. The #old# folks really do apprecfiate it. Luv Watty Watson.

We stayed at the Runswick bay for 2 nights. The rooms are so clean and spacious, the beds are so comfy. The staff especially Lil cannot do anymore for you. So friendly, polite and helpful. We were attending a ceremony at another hotel and my family came over for the Saturday to attend the ceremony with us. Lil got the rooms ready for my family early so they could get changed. It was also my granddaughters 9th birthday and they looked after her presents and set them out in the breakfast room, this really made her day. Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Runswick bay

We always visit here at least twice when we stay in Runswick Bay, one of my favourite places. Well worth the walk up a steep hill from the lower bay. The food is really excellent and good value. A very good, varied menu. The service can be slow when they are busy but that doesn’t detract from the excellent experience overall. Will keep coming back..

Warm, friendly welcome, great local beers, and the food was fabulous! Called without booking and despite being very busy, staff were really helpful and arranged a table. Theakstons and Farmers Blonde on draught with an excellent selection of lager & cider. Menu was varied plus a nice selection of specials, all of which were fresh and utilised local produce. Had starters and mains….too full for a pud! Will be back (probably tomorrow)!!!

Rang to book a table and asked for a dog free area/table. Was told that no dogs were allowed into the restaurant so we booked a table there. The food was great and a credit to the hotel, however the 'No Dogs Area' was not adhered to by the staff. Although the staff were very good, the resident dog was allowed to enter the restaurant and go around the tables obviously looking for tit bits (which some people gave which only encouraged the dog to stay) When it came to our table we asked the waitress to remove it as we don't like, or want, a dog sitting in front of us watching us take every mouthful. The waitress kindly did this but almost immediately it was back. This is why we have only given three stars for our evening at Runswick Bay Hotel and we didn't return again. The hotel must understand that not everyone wants a dog spoiling their meal by sitting in front of them begging for food, some may not mind, others do. Again, great food and would recommend - as long as the 'No Dog Area' is adhered to.

Just been for Sunday dinner at this hotel and I’ve got to say it was absolutely fantastic. The service was brilliant the young girls serving were very friendly and the food was out of this world . I had the chicken wok which was amazing the best meal I’ve had for a long time. Overall would definitely 100% recommend.

Very dog friendly, clean rooms with everything you need. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, The breakfast offering is as you would expect and the evening meals value for money. The Cleveland Way can be explored via the hotel car park and we always enjoy a walk to Staithes. The beach is at the bottom of the hill (it is quite steep). Highly recommend.

We’ve had a great 2 night stay at the Runswic Bay Hotel. We stayed in room 4 which was light and airy with lovely views across the countryside from the dual aspect windows. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean as was the en-suite bathroom. It was even serviced - bed made, hospitality tray replenished - many places only service your room if you request it so this was a lovely surprise. Breakfast was good, help yourself to cereals, fruit juice and fresh fruit then tea/ coffee and toast brought to your table. Whilst there was no menu, you could have any variation of a full English which was cooked to order., I had bacon and egg one day and a bacon sandwich the next. The breakfast waitress was very friendly and checked if you wanted any thing else. We also ate in the pub one evening too - there was a varied menu including a specials board. I had the sea bass from the specials board which was delicious - a very generous portion with salad, coleslaw and buttered new potatoes. We didn’t have to wait long and there were plenty of people eating too. Whilst we are not dog owners, dogs are welcome and they certainly didn’t hinder our enjoyment. There is a bus stop across the road from the hotel with a half hourly service down to Whitby or up to Middlesbrough so ideally situated if you don’t fancy using the car to explore! The room tariff was very reasonable too!

Stayed for our wedding anniversary for 3 nights in room 4 which had lovely views from both windows. Really big room with a nice, modern bathroom and very clean and tidy. Breakfast was very good and you could choose which items you wanted if you didn't want the full english. We ate there every night because the food is delicious. The only fly in the ointment is the lack of staff so service is inclined to be slow - be prepared to wait for your evening meal. What staff they do have are extremely helpful and polite.

Really high quality food for the whole family in a cosy and clean environment. The Thai green curry was probably the beet I have ever had and similar comments from the rest of the family. Polite and efficient service. Dog friendly including a resident Labrador.
