The perfect place to relax and revive. We stayed in the spacious 3 bedroomed gite 'Les Tourterelles', enjoying the spacious living area - the large dining table for lazy breakfasts, the cosy lounge for chilling after a day spent outdoors by the newly refurbished pool or exploring the rolling countryside, with its many champagne houses, vast landscapes and quiet, quiet roads.

The huge night skies seen from the lawn at the rear of the barn are definitely worth staying up for - a memory made.

Sarah and James go out of their way to make your stay special.

This is the perfect place for both quiet getaways or large family or friends holidays. We will definitely be back.

A really warm welcome for us and our guests. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, and the owner was extremely helpful in organising a trip to a couple of champagne houses, a restaurant and a coach to ferry our party of 19 between the three venues. Accommodation was clean and very suitable for our group- we rented all the gites, so had the place to ourselves. Barbecues were available, outdoor games too. Lovely walks in the surrounding fields, and local bike hire too. A thoroughly enjoyable stay, made all the better by very helpful and friendly owners. Thank you! K

We have just spent a very relaxing stay at La Tourterelles. Our house was immaculate and well-equipped for all of our needs. Our children loved the pool and the grounds were a relaxing haven for our stay. James and Sarah were warm and welcoming and were ever helpful in recommending places to eat or visit. Would highly recommend.

One of us had stayed here before, but that was in winter, and we were able to return in summer with friends and all of us enjoy the property and the surrounding countryside to the utmost.
The accommodation itself is immaculate, extremely well appointed, and entirely in keeping with the location. The owners, who were so friendly and helpful throughout, showed us the pictures demonstrating how the old barns have been restored over a number of years, using original features and materials wherever possible. Most of the work was done by the owners themselves, and they should be very proud of their efforts.
However, what also sets this property apart is the efforts the owners have gone to in order to ensure that their guests truly have the opportunity to explore this less well known area of France, but which has so much offer the visitor. In addition to a "normal", but very full, information pack about the area, the owners are using geocaching to encourage visitors to go exploring. Geocaching is worldwide treasure hunt, and for us the great joy is that it takes you truly interesting places that you might not otherwise have visited, as well as often providing fascinating information; a bit like an online guidebook for the traveller who likes to go off the beaten track.
There is so much scope in the Eclance area, and the owners have made the most of it. They have prepared packs for visitors so that, for instance, you can visit 25 key local sites associated with Napoleon's 1814 campaign; interesting local lavoirs (communal wash houses); and local churches. In each case you have the ability to find an actual geocache (hidden treasure!) although you may just prefer to use the information provided to learn more about what you are seeing. They have also provided similar information about two local walks, each of which could also be cycled (and they have bikes available for that too), with geocaches placed at intervals along the route - something to make the walk more interesting, or perhaps just slow down the fastest walker.
They have even arranged for a geocache to be placed in Eclance itself, so that you can walk around the village and learn of its history as a famous cheese-making village (suppliers to the King of France, no less), with the cache placed very close to La Ferme des Tourterelles itself.
This is very highly recommended for so many reasons (did I mention the large heated swimming pool?) and would be suitable for couples, families, and groups of friends.

Sarah and James have done an amazing job of renovating their ancient buildings and this is a really comfortable place to stay. As others have mentioned, nothing is too much trouble for them and they are very helpful in sharing ideas and information, not to mention the lovely fresh bread delivered with a smile each morning (except Monday)!
Éclance is a small and isolated rural hamlet. Apart from Troyes (full of medieval buildings and well worth a visit), we mainly spent time walking and cycling in the surrounding lanes and lakes. Very relaxing and completely unspoilt; we encountered few other British tourists.
Each gite has its own secluded terrace with table and chairs, but everything else is shared with the other properties. The pool is very large, cool and refreshing on a hot day, with plenty of loungers and umbrellas.

We have just returned from a one week today in a two bedroom gite, which we found to be spacious, clean, tidy and very we'll equipped, providing everything from towels to washing up liquid. The only thing we had to bring we're swimming towels for the pool are. Everything was very comfortable, each bedroom had an em suite, both of which included baths.

There is a large swimming pool in the gardens with plenty of sun loungers and a covered area if you need to retreat from the sun. We found it to be surprisingly warm in September and we're able to go in the pool most days. James was busy building a toilet for the pool area during our stay

The gite is located in the rural countryside of Champagne with the town of Bar-Sur-Aube close by. There are a few local restaurants although the ones in Arsonval get busy and may be closed mid-week. A van from the local bakery delivers croissants and baguettes in the morning.

There is plenty to do in the area from exploring local villages and visiting the local champagne vineyards. We also went on day trips to Reims and Paris (direct train from Bar-Sur-Aube to Paris).

Sarah managed our booking process and provided helpful information about the area, including different ways to make the payment (in Euros) without incurring great charges. (We found TransferWise to be the best and most straight forward. Sarah was away when we visited but we met James who was great, providing us with directions to nearby restaurants and villages and other helpful tips to ensure we had a good holiday.

We really enjoyed our stay in France and would recommend La Ferme des Tourterelles.

we hired 3 of the gites for a week long 3 generation family break in August of this year. We all had a fabulous time enjoying the company of each other as well as James and Sarah along with their helpers Richard and Elspeth.
The gites were modern, clean, spacious and well equipped and made an enjoyable living experience and were large enough for us all to eat together as a party of 12.
Use the communal BBQ area as it is good fun with easy to light BBQ's.
Facilities such as the swimming pool and table tennis are well maintained, and the garden is extensive.
Overall professionally run, well maintained and an excellent holiday experience.
We will be back!

W have just returned from a week long stay in the les chouettes, and I can honestly say it was the best holiday we have ever had. The area is beautiful and unspoilt and it was a pleasure to drive through.. and that is all we saw of it as we couldnt bring ourselves to leave.!!
The accomodation was spotlessly clean and more than big enough for 2 families, it also had a better equipped kitchen than I have at home!!!
Sarah and James were lovely, nothing was too much trouble and were always happy to stop for a chat!
The pool and the grounds are beautiful and are fantastic for children.
I cant reccomend it highly enough.
Thank you Sarah and James for the most relaxing, enjoyable, fantastc week

Thanks for the lovely review! We are pleased that our cottage Les Chouettes worked out well for both your families. It is big at 186 m² and you can all have your space without being on top of each other. Quite often we have extended families who book a number of our cottages and eat together either in the cottage you stayed in or Les Tourterelles. We are glad that you and the children had a good time. Our best regards, Sarah & James

We started a 5 week family trip in France and Spain at La Ferme des Tourterelles - little did we know when we arrived that this place would spoil us for every other place we stayed. We arrived extremely tired after a long flight from Canada and drive from Paris. We were warmly greeted and settled in to Les Hirondelles. The gite was beautifully appointed, clean, and so so comfortable. In the morning we woke to doves cooing softly and the lure of the bread van. This was the perfect place to unwind and relax - the surrounding countryside was absolutely beautiful and quiet rural village combined with lots of interesting local areas and villages to explore made for a tremendous start. We were fortunate to have very hot weather for late June and enjoyed relaxing by the pool - watching the swallows dip and dive and the bees buzz amongst the lavender.

Throughout our stay, Sarah and James were always available to answer questions, provide suggestions, share their stories about the history of the farm and their loving restoration, and supply champagne from a local cellar! While there, we had an issue at home that Sarah helped us sort out through various faxes and emails - this was all done so graciously and willingly.

Perhaps the only downside is that the area does not have really great restaurants (at least we didn't manage to find them) but, we loved being here so much we were just as happy to shop and eat at home.

I can't recommend this place, or Sarah and James, highly enough. We certainly hope to return someday.

Wow, what a lovely review. Our many thanks. I am sorry for the late reply but have just managed to get into the management dashboard of TripAdvisor for the first time. This is a lovely part of France and we are so pleased to share this with everyone who stays here. I am sorry that you did not find a restaurant to your liking. There are a fair number with a few gems, from a Michelin starred restaurant to typical country Auberge. We look forward to welcoming you back.
