Another superb family break at tottergill. Stayed for half term week in low barn cottage.. been done up since we last stayed and looking really good… complimentary brownies were gorgeous…visited duke of Cumberland pub which was really nice.. 20 minute walk in heavy rain and wind lol but well worth it..also used leisure facilities at crown hotel which is complimentary for guests from tottergill… visited Carlisle couple of times, metro centre in Gateshead and Newcastle (all for shopping with wife and 2 daughters)…can’t rate this place highly enough and the hosts Tracey and barnaby…we have previously stayed for 4 nights and so glad we stayed for 7 this time …
We stayed in Kekaroka Lodge for 3 nights. We have had an amazing time away, stunning views, great clean lodge with brownies, flowers and grounded coffee waiting for us on arrival. We will certainly be back, if you are looking for a break away we would certainly recommend Tottergill Farm!
Where do I start? My friends and I have just returned from a three night stay in Garth Cottage at Tottergill Farm. It was our first visit and we will definitely be back again. Firstly, the Cottage was amazing. It's a lovely size, plenty of space for four and it has a lovely log fire. We followed Barnaby's instructions and on our first night, after soaking in the hot tub, we sat in front of the log fire with a glass of prosecco. The kitchen was very well equipped and the bedding was lovely. There was a detailed guide in the kitchen for things to do which we found very useful with it being our first time in the area. The brownies left in our cottage for us for our last night were a lovely surprise and delicious. The views from the cottage and the hot tub were amazing. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and the attention to detail was fantastic. We were really looking forward to a relaxing break and that's exactly what we got. Thank you so much for giving us such a wonderful break. Can't wait to return.…
Just got back from a 4 night stay at Tottetgill and already can't wait to go back! We stayed in Low Barn, think the others are more modern inside but we loved the character and the features in this one. There is everything you need when you get there, pots, pans, utensils even a dvd player with selection of dvds (my kids actually thought this was brilliant as they have never used a dvd player before!ha) The whole cottage was clean and such a lovely touch with the doggy pack and yummy brownies!!!!! The walk down the lane to the local pub is lovely, it's very dog friendly. Tracey was so nice and helpful and all the other staff we meet were really friendly. The only thing (my kids) complained about was the WIFI. It didn't bother me at all as I found it great that we actually had proper family time playing board games and talking but just be aware its not the best if you plan to be on the Internet alot. It really is a such a lovely traditional un-touristy place, highly recommend Hadrian's Wall and Talkin Tarn Park. Can't wait to go back, thank you for a fantastic holiday xx…
Just got back from a two night stay at Tottergill Farm. What a fabulous place and would highly recommend. Tracey couldn’t do enough for us. We stayed in Orchard House which was beautifully decorated and had the most amazing views. Sitting in the hot tub at the end of the day overlooking the views with a glass of champagne was just magical. The only noise we could hear was the sound of the sheep and the birds singing. Cannot wait to go back with our children and puppy.
Just back from a lovely relaxing 3 day break at Tottergill Farm. Yes the weather wasn't great for late April but that didn't spoil a great getaway. We were met by Tracey who showed us around Mill Barn, we had booked for 6 but ended up only being 2 of us and the dog. The doggie welcome pack and towel is a lovely addition. What a lovely place, we only needed to use the top of the house for us but it's a perfect place for 2 families, very comfortable and lovely touches in every room. Great enclosed secure garden for dogs as well. Both Tracey and Barnaby were really friendly and helpful. The views were spectacular, no photos can do them justice and we enjoyed our first evening with some sunshine, chilling in the big hot tub on the veranda watching the lambs playing in the field next to us. Everything you need is in the property, it wants for nothing, and the welcome brownies were very much appreciated, sorry Tracey we ate them all! The walk down to the reservoir is minutes and it's not far to the local village of Castle Carrock, although we did discover the local pub didn't open on Mondays and Tuesdays. Nevermind, just meant a longer walk back up the hill and down to the cottages. Only problem we had, which no-one would have been able to do anything about, was the birds trying to get back into the barn through the bottom patio doors, presumably to their original nesting place. Lovely to see the wildlife though and we heard cuckoos as well as seeing one of the deer on the way back one afternoon. Lovely place, lovely people and we will be back one day.…
I spent a long weekend up at Tottergill just before Christmas , I stayed in Oak Cottage which was absolutely divine , cozy and 5 star luxury! The owners where helpful and accommodating and answered any questions I had about the local area , we ventured into Carlisle and ate at the Andalusian Tapas bar and Restaurant which was outstanding ( so fortunate that Carlisle was tier 2 ) The hot tub was brill and easy to navigate Tottergill is the perfect holiday location and a great alternative this coming summer Thank you for a lovely pre lockdown break
so I wrote a review last Christmas- it was a 5 star review as the accommodation we could not fault. However the problem I encountered happened after our stay. I have been nothing but patient and understanding with the owners especially after the tough year we have all just been through - however I now feel like the only way to actually now get acknowledgement is this review which I really hoped it wouldn't come to. We stayed last Christmas. In fact it is 12 months to the day since we left. We left some personal property at the cottage. I contacted them and they located and offered to post it out to us. I thought this was perfect- and above and beyond what I expected as I was going to arrange collection whenever my partner was near the area for work. However we are 12 month down the line now - and we have not received it. I have chased this up numerous times - the last response I actually got was a few months ago - I thought her response was abrupt - and made me feel like an inconvenience (however they did offer) they are now ignoring my messages. Im absolutely gutted it has come to this. It was the 2nd time we had visited, and had this issue not occurred we would definately have been back since. I have reccomended this place so many times via social media on various groups in the past - and I dont feel like I could anymore. Please understand - my previous 2 reviews still stand in regards to accomadation - the place is beautiful. Its just such a shame the way they have dealt with this issue.…
We booked Gill Cottage last minute after our wedding, as our foreign plans were affected by Covid. It was the best decision- the place is immaculately presented, with a gorgeous view across the valley and down to the reservoir. It was the perfect base for relaxation, walking in the area and just lounging in front of the fire on a rainy day. We also spent enough time in the hot tub that I considered claiming squatters rights! I recommend sitting in the bubbles with a glass of something bubbly, watching the sun go down. Thank you for having us, and also for our wedding gift.
First the positives, of which there are many! Lovely helpful owners, stunning views, peaceful, great surrounding area. We stayed at Gelt cottage which was so well equipped, so clean, and the views from the hot tub were just amazing. Good walks though we were a bit ambitious with our bikes ( not used to the hills !!) For us, to make worth the 5 stars that other people have given it, the TV reception and internet needed to be better. Now, obviously we didn’t travel 4 hours north to watch tv but on the rainy days and on some evenings it would have been good to have been able to watch the BBC channels not just ITV and Dave We took our amazon fire stick to watch catch up /Netflix but WiFi was not very good so that was also a bit of a problem for us - the WiFi is shared by all the cottages there. At times it wasn’t good enough to check weather apps, social media etc . We always knew that for us we would need to check in to our work emails daily as we own our own business but this proved too difficult hence sadly we had to leave early. So all in all it’s a beautiful place with the added benefit in Gelt cottage of a hot tub. If poor TV reception / WiFi won’t bother you then we can definitely recommend. It might be an issue for children/ teenagers or people like us who have no choice but to stay ‘connected ‘ though!! The friendly owners did say they might upgrade the WiFi though, so it might be worth checking if/ when you book . …
