Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was our third stay here, the two previous ones being pre-2010. Then it was a superb hotel, with restaurant and bar. Now it is a Chambre d'hote and a shadow of its prior glory, but at the same price point. On a positive point, the host Danielle was pleasant. But... 1. Very dark room, tiny shower room and even smaller toilet. 2. The temperature of the room was extremely high. There was a small heater/fan in the room which proved virtually useless and extremely noisy. On the first morning I noticed an AC unit on the ceiling bedside an outside wall. There was no remote control for this in the room. I had to ask for this even though it should have been in the room all along. 3. The room was not serviced ever during our week long stay. Never vacuumed or cleaned. The same piece of white thread stayed on the carpet througout. (I know I could have picked it up but it became a challenge to see whether a vacuum was ever run over the floor). 4. Bedding never changed or even the bed made up. 5. Stains on the toilet floor were there on arrival and were never cleaned. 6. The bins in the room and shower room were never emptied and were overflowing by the time we left. 7. Unfortunately, while adding a teabag to my teapot on day 2, the lid slid off the table and smashed on the floor. I apologised profusely for this. For the next 3 breakfasts I was given the same lidless teapot, until on the penultimate morning we had to request one with a lid as the water inside was cooling down quickly. As I said previously, we had had such memorable times in this establishment previously - this visit put paid to all those memories.

We stayed in Castillones recently and wanted to try here, but it apparently closed some time ago. La Marechalerie is the best in the town, but about 1km out, down the road opposite the Intermarche is Le Table Paysanne. This is run by a local farmer and his wife and they currently charge 20 euros a head, for a five course meal, with seconds and unlimited wine. Highly recommended

We visited this restaurant for lunch on Valentines day. The restaurant had a Valentines day lunch menu at 49 euros per head, so we opted for a la carte menu. The service was very good and the little added extras ( a volute and a soup),were a nice bonus. We enjoyed Coquille St Jacques and fois gras entrees followed by Confit of Duck and steak. All very nice and if any criticism at all, it would have been my steak, which because the dish was small, could have been a nicer piece of steak! We were fairly full, so dispensed with desserts but finished with coffee. The restaurant was fairly busy but our service was very good and the meal enjoyable. We had a couple of pitchers of red wine ( quite nice house red) and the total bill came to 83 euros, which we felt was a little expensive but overall good quality and it was valentines day, so we guess the prices were inflated for that day ( as indeed everywhere else would have been!). We will definitely return again for another lunch (to try the plat du jour lunch and also try dinner there). We think Les ramparts would be good fun in the summer too, al fresco dining. Recommended!

This has always been a place to take our holiday visitors to, to experience reasonably priced good french food. However, a trip there last week was very disappointing. The menu has been slashed to just 3 or 4 choices - with just the ONE fish dish and they were not very inspiring either. My cep and butternut squash soup was average and the beef I ordered came well done instead of a-point (sorry, no accents). The herb/spice crust was very overpowering. My 3 chocolate dessert seemed to lack 2 of the chocolates and tasted quite synthetic. Sorry, Des Remparts, but I shall have to find another restaurant to show off the culinary delights of our region.

WE were passing through Castillones at lunch time and decided to look for a light lunch. We had heard about Les Ramparts and called in. We had a very French lunch with friendly service not light but just right. All in all a great find.

Ok, the food was good but quality food should have a restaurant service to match. The service lacked class! The choice of room was unfortunately not to our liking, the very sombre decor extinguished the bright holiday and mood. The room given as a replacement was bright, cramped and was delightfully placed overlooking the outside restaurant so trying to close ones eyes before people attacked the award winning chocolate dessert was a waste of time.

My husband and I visited Les Remparts whilst holidaying in Lalandusse near Castilliones in August. The weather was warm, so we chose to sit outside in the courtyard, which was spacious and with canopies to keep the sun out. Thierry was extremely courteous and helpful and keen to look after us. My main meal was profiteroles of duck, which was absolutely delicious. The duck was extremely tender and such an unusual idea to put the meat inside a profiterole pastry. My husband chose beef, which had been casseroled for hours and was like velvet to cut. Everything we ate was delicious, the wine was good and we were very pleased with the food and service. We would recommend this restaurant to anybody in or near to the area. We wish we lived local to this restaurant!

A very comfortable hotel, and the standard of food produced by Dominique is splendid and innovative. Thierry is an attentive host. We've stayed here often, and eaten here often, and the standard is always high.

The hotel most charming old mansion is run by husband and wife team Thierry (front of house) and Dominique (in the kitchen). I'm surprised that nobody snapped them for a reality TV programme. Monsieur Thierry is the most charming man that takes personal care of his guests , making sure that all the needs are met. This hotel is extra special because of his caring touch.I loved every moment and enjoyed chatting to him as he was teaching me french . We stayed in a hotel for a week but i could have stayed there for ever. The hotel has a restaurant and the meals were fantastic , I strongly recommend it . You must have at least one meal there, the restaurant has a reputation for being the best in an area and people will travel from long distance to eat there !!!! We talked to many ex pats and they all mentioned the famous restaurant. At breakfast we were offered cheese, hams, fruits, different breads jams and all the other . If anything we were offered more than what we could eat. This Hotel is an essence of France. If we come back to the area we will definitively stay there again x All I can say merci beaucoup Monsieur Thierry.

Husband and wife team Thierry (front of house) and Dominique (in the kitchen) run this charming old hotel in the middle of Casillonnes, a lovely 'Bastide' town. Don't worry that Castillonnes is not famous, crowded or that there aren't any other hotels in town. This one is great. We came for 4 nights in 2010 and returned for 3 more in 2011. We love the large room, quaint courtyard, ancient buildings and good food. We choose to eat dinner in because the cooking is great. On street parking outside. It's a good base for trips to several other Bastides nearby.
