Nestled in a picturesque setting with stunning lake views, De Vere Cotswold Water Park hotel offers a scenic getaway near Cotswold attractions, though noise can be an issue for some guests. While the hotel boasts cleanliness and a modern atmosphere, travelers have noted that the value could be improved, pointing to overpriced meals and additional charges.
The pet-friendly amenities and dining variety are popular, yet restricted spa access has disappointed some. Despite occasional lapses, the staff generally receives praise for their helpfulness.

We just had another wonderful stay with the whole family for my mother-in-law's 80th birthday celebration. As always, the staff were particularly friendly and helpful. Our room was perfect with relaxing lake views and swans swimmimg past the window. We self catered and had everything we needed to take it in turns to cook family meals. We also ate at the Old Boathouse, which had something to satisfy for all three generations and very friendly staff. My husband and I got away for a couple of bike rides in the gorgeous Cotswolds countryside. Thanks Maria and the whole team. We can't wait to come back.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for a belated birthday treat and a bit of normality. I was really impressed with the service prior to our stay, we were kept up to date on the latest changes and check in was explained. We booked a suite as it was a special occasion and I requested a suite with a balcony which was confirmed via email.
One arrival, check in was easy. Arrows were marked on the floor so people were socially distancing and screens were in place at reception with staff wearing PPE.
The door to the suite was secured by a seal to confirm the last person in the room was the house keeper which we were really impressed with.
However we were beyond disappointed with the room, we paid near £400. We had no balcony which had been promised! The room was so dated. And it had NOT been cleaned to standards which was particularly worrying in this time! A bulb was missing, a window screen was broken, there were crumbs on the carpet and dust everywhere.
The bed linen was marked with mould and black hairs! For the price we paid it was 100% not worth the money.
We immediately contacted reception and they sent someone up, sent a cleaner to change the linen and hoover and gave us a complimentary drink. However although this was a nice gesture our romantic celebratory weekend had been greatly tainted.
Staff were very friendly and attentive and room service was quick.
Food was quite overpriced, the restaurant was fully booked on arrival so we weren’t able to dine which hadn’t been explained prior to arrival.
The gym was amazing, great facilities and really quiet. However the pool was fully booked As they are only allowing 8 people at a time and priority was given to people who had booked treatments at a minimum of £48, so near impossible to use for anyone not willing to go to the spa.
The location however was gorgeous, over looking the lake was just perfect and so peaceful.
Such a disappointing stay after looking forward to it for so long. I’m not normally one to write negative reviews but I really feel that this stay overall was not worth the money we paid.

We arrived to this stunning property with high expectations. We booked the apartments as this worked better for our 2 young kids. The 2 bed apartment was very spacious however dated... the towels looked like they had not been replaced in years and the walls had multiple scuffs and marks all over.
We went down to breakfast on Saturday to be told that no poached eggs or omelettes are made over the weekend 'as this is a particular busy period' - I have never heard that in any hotel/resort I have ever been to. They made us omelettes after a member of staff went to check with a kitchen member of staff to which they again reminded us this was purely goodwill.
I paid extra on top of my room rate for breakfast and I was astonished by this!
We then came back to our room after requesting it to be cleaned for it to still be the way we left it - when we called reception and asked if we could have housekeeping to come and change our bed sheets (my child had been sick) they said housekeeping do not come to the apartments and if we wanted this service there would be a charge attached - again something I just cannot understand.
The service has been great but the hotel and it's amenities do not represent that of a 4 star hotel.

We needed a break away and chose De Vere Cotswold Water Park for it's location and Spa. We had a deluxe double room with a balcony overlooking the lake which was very comfortable and spacious. We had toweling dressing robes and local treats of bottled larger and beer included as well as bottled water which were well received although as a woman a small bottle of wine in place of one of the beers would have been more welcome.
We ate in the Boathouse one evening and the Brasserie another, both venues had a good menu choice and the food was well presented and enjoyable. There was a good selection of food at breakfast although some of it was spread out in different areas so you needed to walk from one end to the other for the toast and juices as these were away from the cereal and hot food although not a major problem. The view of the lake from the Brasserie was lovely to enjoy whilst eating breakfast, watching the birds.
There are lots of walks you can do from the Hotel and can borrow a pair of wellies from the cage in reception if needed. The hotel is close to Cirencester which is a lovely place to shop and there are other beautiful Cotswold villages within easy reach.
The spa swimming pool was accessible to us free of charge within certain times of the day during our stay which was great and it's also possible to book a spa day too which we did on the Sunday.
There are lots of nice areas in the hotel to sit and chill out too and have a drink or a coffee. I loved the pantry area where you could buy snacks.
A thoroughly enjoyable stay which I'd do again.

We stayed for 3 nights in July and booked only a couple of weeks before the trip. We had a pleasant call beforehand explaining some of the measures in place due to the current COVID situation.
Check in was fine although the room wasn’t ready. A little surprising that the room wasn’t ready.
The room had been recently refurbished but certainly hasn’t been deep cleaned! The bathroom was very small and the extractor didn’t work plus the shower sprays and leaks out across most of the floor. Otherwise the bedroom was really spacious and had a fridge and tea/coffee facilities. Plus a lovely view of the lake. But keep in mind that ground floor rooms share the balcony - it is a walk way and not private balcony area. Our room was a superior double so not all may have these same amenities.
There was an app which they encouraged you to use for any housekeeping requests. This never happened and all requests were cancelled! We had to go to reception to ask for extra towels and tea/coffee etc. Breakfast bap process could have been better explained too. These are available for those booking bed and breakfast (at the usual price of a full breakfast!). We thought we had to use the app to order , but you don’t. Just go and collect. These were of average quality. Often very hard rolls. The breakfast bag delivered to the room was really good although amounts of yoghurt and fruit was often very small - just fill the pot you are using perhaps!
Bar and outside had signs saying table service. We never got served at a table and always had to go to a bar. Please improve your table drinks service.
Ate in the hotel restaurant once. We waited AGES for the mains. Food was fine. Expect Brewers Fayre kind of standard.
The Boathouse might do better food but can’t comment as only went for drinks late afternoon. Service here was much better.
Feel the price should be reduced due to the limited breakfast.
I have nitpicked here and have high standards. We enjoyed the break and liked the location but improvement needed in some basics for a higher star review.

We returned to stay in an apartment as the U.K. was coming out of lockdown. We had been in Cirencester meeting up with a friend for a socially distanced coffee, we were disappointed to find the Old Boathouse still closed but found a decent coffee and tasty pizza next door. We popped into reception after lunch to enquire about a weekend stay for 10 days later.
The hotel’s Covid procedures were in place and it felt very safe. Gemma on reception was friendly, welcoming and very helpful. She booked us a refurbished one bedroom apartment at a very good rate.
On arrival Gemma checked us in and made sure that we knew how the hotel is currently working - the spa area was opening that weekend and so things had changed in the 10 days since booking. Again she was most helpful.
Our one bedroom, ground floor apartment was freshly painted, with a lovely big sofa - minus any cushions which reassured us. We were also given a wellbeing pack containing hand sanitiser, wipes, gloves and socks. This was a nice touch. We also looked out over the Lake, this was a beautiful view on the sunny Friday evening.
The beds are still as comfortable, and there was sufficient hanging and shelf space for our clothes. The kitchen area was tidy, we had a great kettle and toaster and a good size fridge that just lacked an ice box. We chose to eat in Cirencester on both the Friday and Saturday evening as we preferred a dinner menu to the offered ‘all day dining menu’.
The bathroom, whilst repainted, looked little different to when we last stayed in an apartment - sadly the towel rail was loose and the shower head leaked, hence the four stars not five. The other thing missing was the outdoor tables and chairs, removed to reduce touch points. It was available on request but we didn’t get some as we were busy on the Saturday.
During the weekend I needed a extension lead to watch an online conference, reception staff were most helpful in sourcing one. Everyone we encountered was most helpful, at checkout too.
Last year we stayed in a suite, this time we preferred to have an apartment as the main restaurant is still on a reduced menu and service. I was a little nervous about how enjoyable the Apartment would be after our poor experience last time. Reassured by Gemma, I trusted her opinion, and we had a very good experience. I will be booking an apartment again in future.
Thank you to all of the De Vere staff for looking after us.

There are lots of good points to this hotel but sadly it didn’t live up to my expectations of a De Vere hotel.
Good Points
Excellent breakfast - massive choice with everything you could ask for and probably the only hotel I’ve stayed at that guarantees hot toast
Restaurant food is good but it’s tricky to get a table. Tried both restaurants and equally good
Views from rooms are lovely. There’s a great walkway that goes around the outside
Hotel in a good location for getting around
Maintenance staff very good - fixed shower, toilet door and room door quickly and efficiently and they were really polite when they came
Cocktails lovely and bar prices are reasonable
Disappointing Points
Standard room was all that was available but I was shocked at how basic it was. No different to a Travel Lodge that I’ve stayed at.
Carpets really stained as were the walls and lamp shades.
One room had just one chair and the other one had a tiny sofa. Both needed replacing
Pillows under cover we discovered were really stained. Only found out of last day.
No room servicing because of Covid but was told that it could be done but it wasn’t! This seems more like a money saving thing rather than covid related as there are no other restrictions anywhere and staff stand around in corridors so you are in contact with them all the time.
Towels are hard as nails and have seen better days. You can request clean ones via an app but leaving towels on the floor outside your room is weird as they open your room and deliver them in anyway. Makes for very messy corridors.
Pillows are very stained. Check when you arrive and not when you leave as we did!
Bar area is tiny and it was impossible to get a table so had to take a drink to our room.
Bathroom was really basic with no shelf over the sink so had to place toiletries over the toilet!
Rooms allow dogs and they are everywhere which is great if you like them but got a bit fed up of them being walked past me as I sat and relaxed. Although they did manage to get a table in the bar!
Walls are very thin so could tell when the people next door were up.
Has potential but for the money we paid it wasn’t worth it

We booked for a few nights between Christmas and the New Year. Our double room with a view was spacious and the view was lovely. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The food on site is fine and the brassiere was buffet for the three nights we were there so sometimes the food could have been hotter but you can have as much as you want. We were unable to try out the Old Boathouse pub as it was fully booked. Would definitely recommend booking both restaurants if you go at a busy time. There is a local pub The Crown Inn that you can walk to (torches maybe needed at night) with really cheap beers. We like many other people went for breakfast in the last 20 mins and it was choatic. The staff did their best but the first morning we had to find our own table clear away any debris and get our own mugs and cutlery. This did improve by the third morning. Again food could be hotter. Please note there are no toiletries to take away, the pool has restricted hours for hotel guests but you can use the nice little gym anytime and for a cheaper price check out their Applause loyalty scheme. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would go again.

We had 3 nights here which we booked through Secret Escapes as a dinner inclusive package. We had a superior room on the first floor with a balcony overlooking the lake which was very nice. On arrival there is a seal on the door, not sure if it’s just for show but it felt like thought had gone into the process. We were impressed by the Hotel’s Covid arrangements, this was our first hotel stay since lockdown, prior to arrival we received an email from the Hotel detailing the arrangements, no turndown service, fresh towels etc could be requested if needed, this reduces people apart from guests entering the rooms which was OK with us. There was a complimentary pack per guest with hand sanitizer etc. Bit surprised there was no air conditioning in the room. We had booked our table for dinner prior to arrival as recommended by the Hotel, they booked us into The Brasserie for 2 nights and the Old Boathouse for the final night. Both restaurants were very nice overlooking the lakes, the hotel is on the Cotswold Water park which is part of a huge water park with over 160 lakes. The dinner menu was quite good, my only issue was the dessert each night was not chilled properly so not pleasant, my husband had a knickerbocker glory which was oozing over the sides of the glass, not nice! A takeaway continental breakfast was left outside the door each morning.. There was fruit, yoghurt, juice and a pastry. All in all a good stay.

The hotel is set in a stunning location right along the lakeside, it’s really a beautiful place and the hotel itself is modern and decorated to a nice standard.
Unfortunately, we were a little disappointed with our room, we booked a deluxe room with what we thought from the website would be a private balcony, but were allocated rooms on the ground floor. The hotel was fully booked (it really was busy), so we didn’t feel anything could be done. The ground floor isn’t ideal if you like to leave windows/doors open for air in the summer, and you have to have your curtain closed the whole time as anyone can walk right by, so that took away from what we’d expected to be honest.
Furthermore, we were allocated an accessible room as my partner is a wheelchair user, it was right by reception, we literally could hear everything from the communal area and the toilets for the bar/restaurant were next door so when people were loudly queuing we could hear everything.
Personally, I wouldn’t pay for breakfast either, like many hotels this one thinks it’s okay to charge the same price for a sub standard breakfast service, you are a short drive from many villages so I feel it’s much better to leave the hotel to avoid disappointment.
All round, a pleasant stay but if I came again I’d not accept a ground floor, and I’d certainly be insisting not to stay in room 101 or 102, personally I urge the hotel to re think the way the hallway works so that people in these rooms can atleast hear themselves think, I felt like I was sleeping in a loud lobby, probably because I was 5-10 feet away from one!

Dear AshleyBradshaw, Thank you for your comments following your stay here at De Vere Cotswold Water Park. Some our deluxe rooms have a balcony, but the ground floor deluxe rooms open onto the lakeside decking. Accessible deluxe rooms are all located on the ground floor, but I apologise if this was not what you were expecting. Hopefully on your next stay we can meet your requirements. I do believe our breakfast offering is a generous one, but appreciate it may not be to everyone's liking and we are continuing to review this. Thank you again for the feedback, hopefully we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon, Kind Regards, Gareth Bolton Deputy General Manager

Out of the gate turn left 3 minutes down the road on the left there is a Asian restaraunt Waterside Kitchen & Bar.
I can't remember which block and room number, but it was to the left as you look at reception and furthest away. Short walk but peaceful and on the edge of the woodland walk and lake side
