Detailed Reviews
I spent three wonderful weeks in this most welcoming home stay, in the month of march. I had been travelling South India for four months and needed somewhere to calm down after quite some intense encounters with people, places and experiences. Somewhere to clear my mind before returning home to Sweden after a fantastic South India trip. The Treasure Trove turned out to be exactly what I had been hoping for, while doing my research on the internet. The location is right down in Indian countryside and as that, it offered me a total experience of authentic Indian village life. There is no hassling. No bargaining. No stress. As Wayanad still is rather untouched by tourism the village people are not expecting to gain something from you. On my early morning walks I met friendly people who invited me to their homes for coffee, coconut and jackfruit. There was an open and honest curiosity about me. Language was no problem. If you want to communicate you find ways to do it.
The cottage itself felt as home from the first day. It was spacious and cosy, providing all facilities. The comfortable bed with its mosquito net ensured me a good night´s sleep. The bathroom that often can be a problem in India, was extremely clean and well maintained. There are two balconies, one big at the back and a small one on the front. Awake early in the mornings I sat on the front balcony, watching a new day rising out of a magical mist, sipping on my coffee from the family´s own plantation, listening to nature´s voices and sounds. Now, back at home in the city of Stockholm, I really miss these moments of total peace with myself and the surroundings.
However, I am also a woman who likes to be on the go. The lovely hosts Reena and Sunil were very attentive to my wishes and arranged trips by taxi and auto rickshaw to different parts of Wayanad. Indeed, there is much to see out there. Magnificent mountain sceneries, water falls, wildlife sanctuaries, temples, trekking possibilites, you name it... One of my most cherished experiences was a visit with a guide to some tribal villages. Unforgettable! To me The Treasure Trove was a safe base for my activities. After a day full of doing things I could rest and relax in my cosy "home".
I spent quite some time with the family in their house, eating my meals, chatting or using the free Wi-Fi. And, I really loved Reena´s Kerala food. It was prepared with loving care, and was as tasty as it was nourishing, with many ingredients from their own garden. Reena and I often had "food talks" as she willingly shared with me facts about her cooking. All in all, the atmosphere in the house was warm and relaxed, and I felt kind of being a family member, having my own family far away.
I have stayed in many places during my travels in India, this time and in earlier years, and this one definitely gave me value for my money. It was worth every rupie I paid, and in fact, even more.

The Treasure Trove, located just about 3kms from Meenangadi in Wayanad is a quiet and peaceful homestay that I would recommend if you are planning a trip To Wayanad. Getting to the homestay is relatively easy as it is close to the highway. You would get an auto anytime to take you to the homestay - We took an auto from the Kalpetta bus stand (about 16km) to Treasure Trove at 6AM and had no trouble in finding the place.
At The Treasure Trove, there are 2 well-designed and well-maintained bamboo cottages, each having a spacious room, a lovely sit-out/balcony facing the coffee plantation and of course an attached bathroom. The sit-out needs a special mention as it is the best place to relax - I spent a lot of time here enjoying the calm and looking into the mist filled coffee plantation (Yes, there is mist in the mornings till about 8-8.30AM even in summers). Basic facilities like a TV with cable and a geyser in the bathroom for hot water are also available. The room does get a little hot in the afternoons though if there is no electricity and the pedestal fan isn't operable.
The food at Treasure Trove is cooked and served by the hosts (Reena) in the dining hall of their accommodation (There is a separate dining area as well if you want). If you love traditional Kerala food, you would enjoy your meals here.
Getting to the tourist attractions of Wayanad (Edakkal caves, Kuruvadweep, Chembra peak, Banasura Sagar Dam, Pookot lake, etc) is quite easy as well with auto-rickshaws or cars that you can rent on per-day basis. They are easily arranged for, by the hosts, upon request. Opt for the autos as they are more economical and the drivers double up as guides as well giving you some info about the places. What more do you need?
As most other reviewers have already pointed out, everything you need is taken care off by the hosts so you can have that perfect vacation that you wanted.
Some tips that will help you enjoy your stay more:
- Keep the cottage windows closed while stepping out as there are monkeys and they could enter your cottage and mess things up
- Use the mosquito nets at night as there could be some small insects in the room (This is expected since the cottages are right next to the coffee plantation)
- As with any trip, understand and respect the local tradition and culture
Go ahead and get in touch with Treasure Trove for your holiday if you haven't done so already!

Treasure Trove is a wonderful place. Me and Hannah stayed here for four days and the stay was awesome. For the first time in our Indian trip we slept peacefully in cosy beds with mosquito nets. The bamboo cottages on stilts are beautiful, well maintained, clean and spotless. The wash room is extremely clean. The interior of the cottages had all facilities.
We loved sipping coffee prepared from their coffee plantation sitting in the balcony. There were a lot of birds all around and the place was calm and peaceful. Air was fresh and it was very relaxed atmosphere.
Hosts Reena and Sunil took care of us very well. Reena served amazing kerala food and on our request served Kerala feast in banana leaves. They are very warm and friendly people and ensured our stay was comfortable throughout. Food is served in the dining room in their house and we spent lot of time with the family. Loved the Fish curry Reena prepared for us. WiFi was available.
They arranged cabs for sightseeing and safari in wildlife sanctuary. We visited Edakkal caves, Wildlife sanctuary and Kuruva island which are pretty close to Treasure Trove. Overall great place to stay in Wayanad, no frills, no hassles, no hidden charges, great food and welcoming hosts.

During December 2014 when we decided to take a break in Wayanad , we chanced upon “Treasure Trove” purely by accident as other home stay where we intending to take a break was not available and he recommended this place to us. On checking out the well-designed website, the place looked good but there was skepticism about it as to whether the place would be as nice as shown on the web site.
Post completion of formalities of booking which was swift and prompt Mr.Sunil, the owner was always courteous in replying to all our queries however mundane it may have seemed including the weather, directions, and places to see nearby. We received a mail detailing precise directions to his place which proved to be extremely helpful.
As we reached the place and saw the cottages from outside we were floored by the design and aesthetics of the place. We were received by Mrs. Reena Sunil and guided to our cottage “Leafy Retreat”. On entering the cottage my wife was totally floored by the functional design of the cottage with clean sheets and right sized pillows. The bathroom too was well kept .We had asked for extra beds which was catered to. The cottage in itself is very cozy and the little bridge that leads to it is like the icing on the cake. The surroundings are lush and well kept. We were further impressed by the fact that there are only two cottages made available for guests thus ensuring privacy, peace and quiet unlike places where it is a commercial venture with numerous accommodations.
The first day we went for a short walk along the road in front of the house and came back and sat out in the thoughtfully planned balcony. We went to the host’s house for dinner and interacted with the couple and chalked out the program for the next day. We were served home cooked kerala food.
Second day morning we took a short trip around the estate and were served breakfast in the exclusively designed hut next to the main house for this purpose. After sight -seeing we were back in the evening. We enjoyed our sit out in the balcony and the dinner at the host’s house.
There are a number of small points that have been taken care of by the couple like the lawn in the front, thoughtfully written down messages and instructions in the cottage regarding conserving water, the acceptable behavior in this quiet ,quaint town, saving electricity, keeping our belongings safe etc which gave us a feeling that a lot of minute details were taken care of.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this place and would love to get back some time in the future.

We visited Wayanad as a couple on mid of December 2013. The total experience is just amazing. Summarizing some inputs for the one's want to visit Wayanad.
Location: North east of Kerala. Typical "kerala"... all green... so fresh. Surrounded by hills & jungles.. truly Gods own country.
The treasure trove: If someone looking for good for value then I definitely suggest the treasure trove. Sunil & Reena are so lovable host. From the first day they took care of us very well. I must specially mention the cooking of Reena. The local dishes are finger licking. The bamboo cottages are a great experince..the view of coffee plantation from its balcony is great to watch...toilets are very clean.
Weather: It was good. Not so chilly. Ideal time to visit wayanad.
Local people: Very helpful. Language is a barrier but very safe to roam all over the place.
Special thanks to my friend Sourav for suggesting this place, It was worth of every penny.

We visited Wayanad during the Easter weekend. It was a sudden plan and we were lucky to get a booking at The Treasure Trove. Mr.Sunil and Ms.Reena are the owners of this home-stay which is situated at Meenangadi. They have two bamboo cottages. The room was quaint and clean with attached bathroom and a sit-out. We loved the sit-out overlooking the plantation area. The high point of our stay was the food - fresh and delicious traditional Keralite food, served at their family dining hall. Even our fussy toddler seemed to love the food. And thanks to Ms.Reena for accepting the last moment request to provide lunch on the day of our arrival. Mr.Sunil helped us plan our trip providing all the necessary information. The cottages are quiet, and surrounded only by the sound of nature - crickets, frogs, various birds could be heard busy with their chores. Being just near the plantation area, sometimes some insects find their way in the cottage, so better to make use of the lovely mosquito net that hangs over the bed during night. Additionally, being a bamboo cottage, outside temperature changes could be felt inside as well. Afternoons are hot and nights are a bit chilly - especially if it rains. So for children pack some warm clothes. The hosts are warm, generous and mindful of every little need of the guests. Overall, we had a good stay and would recommend this treasure-trove to everyone, especially if you are travelling as a couple or family.

Unfortunately we were staying just one night at treasure trove but it was definitely one of the most beautiful and relaxing places which we've seen on our journey through South India. Very kind hosts, wonderful and tidy cottages and delicious food. We are really sorry that we couldn't stay longer! Thank you for all!

We have visited this place in the last week of March, the climate was not that great. The place is good and the cottage is great. It was well constructed with wood and bamboo. The food was ok not much of choices though. It is a small quiet property. It is run by a family, very humble and understanding.
Positive - Good property, sightseeing convenience , Quiet and Peaceful
Negative - Lack of food choice , In house activities

Thanks for taking time to post a review. The intention behind posting a review after 8 months is still ambiguous for us. There is a lot of disconnect between the things mentioned in the review and overall rating. I would like to make a elaborate reply to this review strictly adhering to TripAdvisor Guidelines. At the first place let me appreciate you generosity in saying some good words about our place and us. Let me correct you saying that you had stayed with us in month of February. Of course is a small property and is a family run business exclusively meant for travellers who are interested in staying close to a family and having home cooked authentic Kerala cuisine. Now coming to your negative comments. There are no activities: We have never mentioned in our website or anywhere else that we provide any activities. The only activity we provide is plantation walk and farm activities. At the time of booking you had asked whether we had a swimming pool and we had mentioned it is not available. You can always only expect very minimal activities in a homestay. No much choice in food: While making the booking you had requested a stay for 3 nights and demanded a discounted tariff since the stay was for 3 nights. We readily gave you a discounted tariff since you said your stay was for three nights. In spite of our repeated requests you were hesitant to transfer an advance amount but still we honoured your booking. After staying for a night next day afternoon you decided to check out saying some personal reasons. You only paid the discounted tariff that was quoted for 3 days for the one night stay at our place. We never raised any objection or resistance. As per our understanding your intention was to use our place as a transit point during your journey from Bangalore to your native place Trivandrum. It is explicitly mentioned in our website that our place is not a hotel or resort that serve chinese and continental dishes, but we only serve home cooked Kerala food, both veg and non-veg. Ins spite of providing the food and other assistance your requested for the kid traveling with you, your rating for our service is average. In a homestay you cannot expect a bell boy, a house keeper or food being served in your room. Kindly don't expect the services offered in resorts and hotels in a homestay. There is a great effort behind running such family business and any vague comments and remarks can cause a serious jolt to the reputation and trust we had built with our customers over the years. And before deciding to stay at a place it would be great if one can go through the property website to get a clear picture of the business model and distinguish between a homestay, hotel and resort. If you would bother not about the food and warmth( which are the main advantage of homestays), then the property is good with all bamboo, set in a coffee plantation. The room was clean, spacious with a large balcony overlooking the plantation.

Hi All We are terribly shaken by such reviews aimed at destroying our credibility and success in the industry. As a respect to my guests i am not spilling out any comments on the guests who posted this review, but i have sent them a personal mail. It is easy to tarnish the image of a reputed establishment with such reviews but our morale will remain high because the list of our well wishers and supporters are high with 85 excellent reviews. We had a really nice, relaxing stay at the Treasure Trove. The cottages are large and beautifully constructed with a balcony overlooking dense trees and foliage. They are set away from the owners' house, giving you the feeling of being in a tree house in the middle of a forest, with the sounds of birds and wildlife all around you.
Hosts Sunil and Reena are quiet, kind people who welcomed us into their home for mealtimes, and were very helpful in organising sightseeing and onward transport. Reena is a wonderful cook and we ate some of the best food we had in Kerala here! Many of the ingredients are produced on their own plantation.
The location is good for the sights of Wayanad, being closer to Eddakal caves and Muthanga wildlife sanctury than Kalpetta. It was easy to get the bus to the nearest village of Meenangadi as the buses from Calicut to Sultan Battery all stop here. You will need to get the rickshaw driver to call Sunil to get directions for the final 3km!
Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend the homestay.
