We were very warmly greeted on our arrival by the owner It was noticeable there was plenty of sanitiser available and also a one way system in place to meet with the Covid requirements. We had a family room and a twin room which were spotlessly clean and well appointed and of a very good size. All of our meals there were excellent, and our grandchildren were well looked after as was the family dog ! The building is very old but well cared for . We felt The Bodkin was unique , with the quirkiness and character of the building, combined with the warmth and character of the owners, who seemed to work tirelessly to maintain their high standards. We will definitely return hopefully in drier , warmer weather to appreciate the outdoor space as well. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable

Visited this hotel last night with my husband. We received a very warm welcome and there were clear signs regarding social distancing. We were shown to the restaurant and were offered a seat in the lounge area first or to go directly to our table. Menu had been reduced from previous visit however there was an excellent selection for all palettes. I opted for the palate and burger. Hubby had the homemade soup which was onion and cider and the fish and chips. The food was brought to our table still in line with social distancing. Staff were so attentive and the atmosphere in the restaurant was lovely. The food was excellently presented and tasted amazing. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will returning very soon. Thank you for an amazing evening

My partner and I stayed here for one night as part of our walk along the Cotswold Way.
This is such a warm and friendly place to stay. The room was big and incredibly clean. It was exceptionally hot that evening but there were plenty of fans available.
We had dinner in the garden which was lovely (2 x veggie burgers and a bottle of rose) and the owner even offered to make us bacon rolls to be ready for our early departure - which she had ready for 0645 the following morning along with coffee and croissants.
Would thoroughly recommend.

We came here on the way home from a visit to westonbirt Arboretum. Have passed this place so many times we decided to stop off for a drink. So glad we did, what an absolute gem. We were immediately greeted by the owners and made to feel welcome, they even moved so we could sit by the fire which is where they were sitting when we came in. The place was so quiet when we came in we nearly turned around and left as the signs were not clear and for such a beautiful location we were questioning why it was so quiet, but so glad we stayed. We were blown away by the building and the configuration of the rooms and the separate personalities they hold and it screams history and memories it's just beautiful. It was a perfect time to have a drink. Looking forward to coming back and sampling the menu one day or even staying the night. Thank you for your lovely welcome and hospitality we loved it. ♥️

We recently attended a birthday party at Bodkin House and what a wonderful time was had by all.

The charming young owners Matthew and Gaynor Lindley bought the hotel less than 18 months ago and what a wonderful venue they have created.
They have taken a 400 year old property and revived / refurbished the hotel with great sympathy with beautiful colours and wallpapers, truly delightful.

The excellent food and locally produced English wine was served in the most delightful large dining room which had been decorated beautifully for the birthday celebration.

We stayed for two nights and we visited the lovely Cotswold town of Tetbury just 20 minutes away other guests visited beautiful nearby Bath.

Bodkin House is so conveniently located near the M4

When we we preparing to leave we witnessed the preparations for a weekend wedding once again beautifully presented, an excellent wedding venue.

We cannot recommend Bodkin House highly enough, so lovely to stay in such a beautiful unique boutique hotel.

Good luck to Matthew and Gaynor and a huge thank you, ......... to coin the phrase
"We'll be back"

Lovely hotel and the grounds, well positioned for exploring the area - tired in places but it's an old, charming building, and clean throughout. Check in and service a little slow but we were not there to rush. The staff were friendly, although I think they were uncomfortable about us having 3 adults and a child in a family suite (it was a last minute trip, we were unable to find anywhere with two doubles available). Breakfast was a little disappointing - fewer items than listed on the menu and rather fatty even for full English. When I asked for just a sausage and bacon for my child, the lady taking the order became a little nervous and bizarrely rather than writing down the 2 items she made me order full English and list 6 items he didn't want. And he still got a tomato.

This is an absolutely delightful pub. We were celebrating a special occasion and the owners went over and above to make sure everything was perfect and bespoke! We hired one of their amazing private dinning suits and they decorated the room for us which was truly enchanting and sophisticated. There was 22 people to cater for, the food was delicious and served at just the right times. I even got personally designed cocktails! I just want to thank 'Bodkin House Hotel' so much especially Matthew and Gaynor! You obviously poured your hearts and souls into running this establishment and it really shows!

Thanks you again!

Lauren

Found this place driving to Bath and went in for a drink and lunch. We were not too hungry, but really liked the way we were greeted and the attentive staff and decided to go for full starter and main (2 adults and 2 kids). Moral of the story, ended with complete empty plates. The food was delicious (got 2 steaks for the kids and fried chicken, pork belly, soup and camerbet cheese). We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and service was second to none (its always great to see people in hospitality business smile nowadays 🙂).

I did an extensive search in the afternoon to find the right place for us as it was a special occasion but we were in the area that day unexpectedly. We were after an all rounder with good rooms, a bar with character, well rated food and dog friendly so we didn’t have to venture out. The Bodkin did not disappoint ..we loved it! After a stressful and miserable rainy day the welcome we received and roaring open fire in the bar settled us into a relaxing evening. For our meal we chose Rioja wine with a steak meal which was just perfect. It’s family run and we enjoyed talking with them about the history which is all around you. Due to Covid regs we unfortunately got thrown out of the bar at 10pm. The full English the next morning was also excellent. We look forward to our next visit and a longer stay.

If you want the quintessential English Inn stay then look no further, this is it. A spacious room with an immaculate bathroom with a roomy walk in shower.

With room for a sofa and a desk this bedroom would elsewhere be considered a suite. Only thing missing was a coffee table.

The Inn is obviously a building that has been knocked through, expanded on and otherwise modified, so nothing looks straight or level which adds so much character. The staff themselves add even more, friendly and chatty we could have talked with them all night if our tiredness hadn't gotten the better of us.

Dinner was excellent... the only fault I could make was that the steak was dry aged when it mentioned nothing of the sort on the menu... now that is really not a problem... at least not for me, but I told the staff they should advertise the fact that it's locally sourced meat and dry aged as that's a real selling point.
