‘Contemporary country house with the Cotswolds warmest welcome’ Set high on an escarpment overlooking the Severn Vale this 45 bedroom country house hotel lies between the Cathedral City of Gloucester and Regency Cheltenham. Hatton Court provides the right balance between traditional hotel service and all the benefits you would expect from a contemporary hotel. The Tara Restaurant is renowned locally. It is an ideal place from which to explore the Cotswolds. Hatton Court is a reassuring size; not large and impersonal, nor too small. As a former splendid Cotswold home the feeling is of being eminently comfortable as opposed to grand. Nothing is hurried. The reception is very much a lounge, with leather sofas, magazines and an open fireplace for those chillier days. Next door the bar is more a place to relax, take tea, read and talk than to rush. The care taken to prepare the food, combined with a smiling service, is complemented by the thought that has gone into creating the Tara Restaurant. Fully refurbished in late 2009 the natural colours and soft lighting make a relaxing environment for friends and relations to enjoy each other’s company. Private dining facilities are available in the equally well appointed Cotswold Room. The peace of the surrounding countryside and comfortable bedrooms, some with whirlpool baths, make for a good night’s sleep ready for another day exploring the Cotswolds.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great venue, lots of positives, location fantastic, staff were great and friendly, the breakfast and food in evening was really good, the bar was decorated perfectly and really reasonably and again with excellent staff. Negatives - outdated rooms (old windows that were really drafty, TV from the 1970's and a trickling noise from the toilet each night!

Warm welcome at reception, then taken to a table with a lovely view over the countryside; timing us everything, so could have any table but would still have been very nice. Afternoon tea consists of a petite mixture of sandwiches, two scones (plain and fruit) and clotted cream and jam, and mini cakes, and of course your choice of pot of tea. We enjoyed it very much, full upon leaving. We were looked after by Zak, very hospitable and chatty thus making us very comfortable; thank you. Recommend for setting, price and easy parking.

Hatton Court is one of my favourite UK hotels. Have been coming here since 1993. It is a quality hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Had a great meal on Saturday night and afternoon tea on Sunday was lovely. There are however a few things that are letting it down. First there is the driveway. This is the sort of place you expect to swish up to, rather than bumping over ruts and potholes that wouldn't be out of place on an automotive proving ground. Then there is the wifi. In most hotels this has improved by leaps and bounds over past years. not at Hatton Court though. The wifi is sadly unusable and I had to resort to tethering my mobile phone. Finally, you can't trust the shower. I don't appreciate the flow suddenly reducing to a dribble mid-shower.

Firstly, when booking, make sure to remind yourself you haven't paid, because the email you get says "100% of the money is taken at time of booking", yet it isn't, and the hotel say to ignore that email. Quite misleading and I don't understand why they don't change the email. Sorry to start negative as the rest was good! Staff: - can only be described as superb! - friendly, knowledgable about food and drink and very accommodating. Bar / Drinks - lovely comfortable bar area. - excellent choice of drinks - can highly recommend a zombie cocktail (or 5) Food: - this was the highlight. - every single dish was delicious from the pate and soufflé starters to the venison and duck mains. Ice cream to die for at the end too. - really lovely breakfast in the morning. Lovely staff, nothing too much trouble and the full English and eggs Benedict were lovely and the view was amazing. Room: - lovely bed. Really good nights sleep - two negatives though. Firstly, no plugs available at the bedside. This was a particular issue as I suffer from sleep apnoea and there was nowhere to plug in my cpap machine (note to self, take an extension lead) - bathroom was tired and run down. Actually put us off using the faculties. Plus the toilet, very strange, it was 80% full of water. Then you flush, and it fills back up again. Never seen a toilet like it, odd. Overall though it was an enjoyable stay and the food was the highlight.

Not worth the money but maybe I got a bad room… If you get a room with the eaves expect to duck and dive to avoid the love ceiling areas. Not sure why you would put a hairdryer and bin in an area where the roof is so low you have to bend right down to reach them. Also woken up by some very loud boiler or pipe noise. Not so restful early in a Sunday morning. A basic mixer tap is surely normal for a hotel this level too? Finally the reception smelled like sulphur and the bathroom floor wasn’t clean. Yes the bed was fine, the TV worked and they have the other usual amenities

Dear Wonderbug77, I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay at Hatton Court, Some of our rooms do have the classic country house style to them with the sloping ceiling and the wooden beams, I do completely understand your comments regarding the height issues and I am really sorry that your sleep was disturbed and not as relaxing as it should of been, I have passed these comments onto the team, Please accept my sincere apologies and I hope this hasn't put you off returning in the future, Best wishes, Jake

We were given a hotel night away as a present and chose Hatton Grange. We were greeted with a warm friendly welcome at reception. This continued in the bar where we had pre dinner drinks. Dinner followed and I can only describe as amazing. The food was cooked to perfection and I could tell that the chef had prepared and cooked with care and good knowledge. It was faultless. The high standard continued through breakfast and breakfast waitress was really friendly and efficient. All in all a great stay, our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. The only negative was the TV would have been better if we could have swivelled it around for better view from bed. Minor detail. Highly recommend the hotel.

We stayed here with our dog. The staff here are lovely, so welcoming to us, and our dog. He had a sausage for breakfast and treats at check-in. The views from the hotel are beautiful. The location is perfect with lots of lovely walks nearby. We were pleased with our room and the hotel itself. A perfect place for a relaxing break. We will be back again soon.
