A large group of us booked almost a year ago to spend the weekend at Owlpen. First they asked us to move our weekend forward by one week to accommodate a wedding. We did this though it did mean one of our group would not be able to attend. However, they have now cancelled us altogether saying they want to hold the places for those who could not use their bookings due to the pandemic. Not enamoured of this behaviour; certainly not what we would expect from this sort of establishment. Have said we travelled in March 2020 or this “review” would not have been published.
Just returned home from a wonderful week in Marlings End cottage on the Owlpen Estate . Lucky to have spent last Christmas in Peter's Nest which was just as magical. Fantastic walks from Marlings End , if you want to arrive, not get in your car every day during your stay , then Owlpen is for you . We had great walks from our doorstep, also you have the Owlpen Estate to freely wander around , which we took full advantage of last Christmas but ventured out towards Uley village and beyond this stay. Friendly and fully stocked village shop within ten minutes walk . If you want to raise your heartbeat then walk to the village shop and take the footpath next to shop , near on horizontally upto the best viewing point of Uley and surrounding villages.
My family and I stayed in one of the cottages in Owlpen. This was the first family holiday I took my 6 month old on and was keen to find somewhere that took seriously their responsibility to ensure that the accommodation was COVID safe. They did just that it was thoroughly cleaned with a certificate. They had other measures in place as well that helped me feel secure. The estate has many places to walk. Surrounded by fields and numerous country walks. Beautiful breathtaking views. You even have access to the family gardens which are beautiful. Staff were so friendly and helpful. The only downside if you have a little one who is in a pram is there aren’t always walking paths which makes walking slightly more tricky but my family and I made it work. It is in the middle of nowhere so having your groceries delivered to the accommodation is worth it. So you can just get there and relax. A place I’d definitely return to again. It made me completely switch off from the fact that we are in a pandemic and focus on my family.…
We stayed in the Grist Mill House , part of the Owlpen Manor complex . This was a very old ex Mill House , very quirky and as you would expect , age showed through in various places. It was atmospheric and a real experience. The whole stay was of course affected by the Covid situation , which led to the basics one would expect ( salt / pepper, cooking oil etc ) being taken out after each visit , so go prepared . The heating worked well and there was a lovely wood burner in the lounge, additional wood available at an incremental cost . The house was well equipped , with a couple of minor issues which we reported. The house was not quite as grand as the pictures suggest , but very adequate and set in truly lovely gardens and grounds....take your wellies . The 4th Bedroom was indeed only really suitable for children as the room had no door and a curtain giving the second bed some privacy. The bedrooms were very clean and the beds comfortable There are some lovely walks very close to the Mill , so for an "escape" it was ideal. The staff were very nice. The stay was quite expensive but we enjoyed our time very much.…
We stayed at Woodwells cottage within the owlpen estate with my family (husband and 2 boys aged 13 and 15). It is a really beautiful place surrounded by rolling fields and hills. The cottage is very secluded right within the estate and walks are straight from the front door without the worry of traffic or having to drive which our labrador loved! The cottage is comfortable and spacious with ample room for a family. The fact that there is WiFi meant my boys were happy and the large garden gave lots of room for them to hang out as well as a bbq. The house is tastefully decorated and has a lot of character. Any communication with the staff was efficient and helpful and although you are left alone to enjoy your holiday you feel that it would be easy to contact someone should there be a problem. This is the second time we have stayed here and would thouroughly recommend.…
