I have spent the last two weeks at Rancho Tranquilo whilst volunteering at Sea Turtle Rescue Nicaragua which is right next door. You can start most mornings by releasing sea turtles followed by great surfing. Afternoon are relaxing and chilled so you can either explore the beach, padre ramos reserve or go get an icecream of Devin. The bar is... More

This place is amazing! The name says it all, the Tranquilo is maximum layback and a chill place. If you live peace and harmony, this is totally it. The only voices you hear over there is the ocean and the nature. The staff is really really friendly. They serve vegetarian food and it's just perfect! Good menu with good options.... More

Ahhh Rancho Tranquillo ! We stayed here a few nights and loved the place ! The cabins are quite rustic, and there is only two showers and two WC for everybody (we were only a few guests but it could not be sufficient when full). Anyway, it's a place where you can take naps in the hammocks, swim and surf... More

We fell in love with this place from day one. The staff, Isabel and Mamie, are super friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Great volunteer Megan also was super helpful. Sweet little cabins where you fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Good bar cum relaxing hammock area right next to the beach - no views from here... More

A lovely peaceful and quiet place at the beach. Very welcoming and sociable atmosphere, definitely recommended for solo travellers. Tasty vegetarian food. The bus from Chinandega was a bit of a challenge but definitely worth it (a taxi to Leon is US$40) Lots of long term travellers here with inspiring stories. Would have loved to stay longer and only regret... More

My wife and I stayed at Rancho Tranquilo for a week in February of this year. An email about three weeks after we’d left from a fellow I’d met there informed us of Tina’s death. We were saddened and remain so as Tina was such a special and lovely person. I had planned to return to Nicaragua in the fall... More

Very quiet place located directly on the beach, colorful, clean and well mantained. You can stay in dorm, private hut, or a in your own tent. There's a small vegetarian restaurant and a bar. Mamie, the chef, is very welcoming - she also has a lot of birth-related stories to tell. The night guard will open you a fresh coconut.... More

This place is fantastic. There are not many places like this. Right on a beautiful beach off the gringo trail. You can walk for miles and not see another person, just a few cows, horses and pigs. It's like walking in an episode of national geografic. It's a lovely walk to the estuary. Mamí and Isabelita are fantastic hosts. The... More

First a comment on the LP entry for this place; Tina sadly passed away. We don't knew her personally but there were people here who were here before and they told us about her. The good news is, the place is now run by Mami and Isabel, two lovely local ladies that have ressurected the place and put love in... More

Tranquilo has a prime location, right on the beach, with a lovely beachfront bar. The huts were well constructed, and the early morning mangrove boat tour and horse riding along the beach were great activities. Food is vegetarian but you can get chicken and fish elsewhere. Nearby Esperanza was a lot more popular, with a young surfing crowd, but if... More
