1) Location is amazing- close to everything you might want to see/do in Terra Alta (San Joan, Gandessa, Calaciete, Arnes, Alcaniz and even priorat wine region) Also just steps from the Via Verde path. 2) Beautiful rom (comfortable, clean and plenty of space). Loved the balcony. 3) HUGE breakfast included (we looked forward to it every single day!) 4) Outstanding restaurant. We ate there THREE times during our stay. Amazing food and great value for the quality. 5) Maria and Josep make this hotel the special gem that it is. They went above and beyond to make our eight day stay very special. From helping with my broken Spanish to making up the different with German to recommendations for food and activities-- we were SO sad to have to leave Bot and say good bye to our new friends!
We were extremely disappointed in our dining experience at this restaurant. There was barely a greeting on arrival, service would have been nicer with a smile. All portions were small. Starters were okay - asparagus and escalivada. We were charged 8 euros for 2 rations of bread so 4 diners could share the escalivada. The octopus main (18 euro) was very mean and languished small and lonely on the plate. The ternasco (baked lamb, 19 euro) was presented luke warm on a cold plate. The paella marinera (42 euros for 2) was served on a 'one person paella pan' ! - one of the meanest portions we have ever been served anywhere. We have enjoyed better paella elsewhere at a Thursday 14 euro menu del dia. Total spend 107.74 euros for 4 people, 2 starters, 4 mains, 2 coffees and 2 waters. There are far better choices of restaurant to choose to visit in beautiful Terra Alta.…
Hotel Can Josep is a 2 star hotel with 5 star service and a frankly brilliant kitchen. Built by the owner himself, Josep, who will welcome you with all of the famous warmth of Catalonian people it is very tastefully furnished and appointed. A great base to explore the beautiful mountainous surrounding areas, which include many hikes, nature tours and vineyards. We found this place to be an absolute pleasure and is somewhere I plan to return to, and having been there out of season would recommend you try visiting at the same time. Thanks to Josep for a memorable experience!
We spent the weekend there and it was great: the bed, breakfast, professional service, lift, parking...everything! We'll come back! Bot is near many things to see and do in the area. We had a great wine experience in Sant Josep Wines too!
A small hotel on a small town, but with great things to do during the holidays. The owners are kind and worry about your experience, the food offered is good, with a very good note for the breakfast, the excellent thing are the views from the restaurant hall. The rooms are comfortable and very clean, so I will recoomend to stay in Can Josep If you visit the Terra Alta.
I originally wanted to stay in Calaiceite, a close by town declared top 25 in 2017, with my family (4) but the hotel there did not have the family room available. I looked at closed properties and I found Can Josep...What a find! Maria y Jose treated us like family and were patient with us and my 5 years old. We stayed here a Monday and we did the Green Way (la Via Verde) for 3 miles (5KM). It was spectacular. Josep rents the bikes and you ride over an old rail road, now paved. what a view and experience. The restaurant in the hotel is fantastic! Josep is a great cook and he has good wines as well. the selection of dishes is adequate. The rooms are good and comfortable. Josep also served as a guide and drove us from la Fontcalda to the Hotel. He gave us good advice about neighbor towns. If you are like me during a route through Pueblos Lindos in Spain!!! This stop is a must!! you won't regret it!…
I came here to use as a base while exploring nearby sites associated with the Spanish Civil War - but came away concluding there's a lot more to this area than is apparent at first glance. The rather bland exterior gives little hint that the interior is modern and stylish, and the rooms impeccably furnished with little design flourishes, plus welcome conveniences like an honesty bar in the corridor. I didn't know about the Via Verde before I came, but this is just another reason that this corner of Catalonia deserves to be better known. Service throughout my stay was friendly and attentive and dinner was superb - and extremely good value. Breakfast didn't hit the same heights, but the views from the feature picture windows were memorable. I'll be very happy to return when my itinerary allows - a previous attempt to go back was thwarted by the non-availability of a room on the dates I needed.…
We stayed here for 4 nights when we visited Spain for the moto GP. The hotel is small and in a lovely wee wine town. Our room was smallish in size but was spotlessly clean and came with a little balcony that overlooked the main road. The buffet breakfast was nice with plenty to choose from and the view from the dining room window is stunning. We also ate in the restaurant, which is open to the public , on two occasions. The food is simple but tasty. There are coffee making facilities and cold drinks in a fridge on the landing leading to the bedrooms on the first floor and you just write down what you have taken/ used. Would stay here again if in the area.
We had a very enjoyable two night stay at the hotel recently. We arrived very late but Josep had waited up for us and greeted us with the offer of coffee and snacks which were very much appreciated after a long drive. Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and lots of different dishes to choose from. Dinner and wine also very good. Relaxed and friendly. Josep and his family made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely return.
Chose this hotel as it is a 50 minute easy drive to the racing circuit at Aragon where we were visiting for the moto gp . The hotel is set on the edge of Bot and is perfect for walkers ,cyclists and i believe the owners can offer advise on trails etc .The hotel has been renovated downstairs and offers classy areas and dining room , the highlite being " that wndow " just fabulous ,the veiw is lovely and ever changing . The menus ,either menu of the day or the regular menu offer good food choices and the wine menu is locally sourced and very good ! prices are accaptable ,no complaints from us . Our foom was fine sadly we didnt have a good veiw but as we were out most of the time not a problem. The owners were very welcoming and made our stay here very pleasant , would revisit in a heartbeat if we went back to the area .…
