We stayed for one night whilst passing through. Room was fairly well equipped and comfortable. Good breakfast offered by friendly staff. Good stop off point and many local places worth visiting including Drumlanrigg Castle.

I was expecting class food, class establishment and class service. This is how it is marketed. It fell short in all areas and in particular food and service. The menu is okay. The preparation of the food and visual presentation were disappointing. I had fish that was cold and in fact still had some ice in the center. I did...

Myself and my wife had fish and chips. The food arrived cold, the fish was grey, obviously frozen. One of the meals had hairs on the food. The chips must be the chepist ever. The chef said she was to busy to talk and she expected us to pay full for one meal and half for another. Intially they asked...

I was booked in by a friend, had no choice, not that it mattered. Wonderful hospitality, Peter, our host, is so friendly and amenable. My room was on the front street, and I needed the window open, it was so warm. The traffic noise is pretty high, it's on a main road. Thornhill is a pretty town, though on a...

I ordered the duck and my partner the lamb both medium rare. After much time we were informed there was no duck. So naturally I picked something else which was the same as my partner, lamb. What I actually got was lamb that was tough as old boots, hard to cut and ever harder to chew unless you are perhaps a lion...

Last night night my wife and I, returning from visiting friends in Ayrshire, and en-route home to North Wales, were driving through Thornhill and decided to stop at the Thornhill Inn for something to eat. Inside we were met with a charming little pub and lively atmosphere. All was fine as we ordered our drinks and food and waited for...

We had booked two nights from VisitScotland information centres. Unfortunately when we arrived the double room had no top sheet and two single duvets which were told was the Danish style. We decided not to stay as it looked uncomfortable and decidedly weird for an Aussie traveller. Be aware of you book through visitscotland there is a deposit required which...
