We have just returned from a weekend break at The Whitehouse. We had a wonderful stay in room 4. The room was lovely, a mixture of exquisite & rustic all in one. The bed was very comfy, bath robes were provided, fluffy towels & I particularly enjoyed the rainforest shower. Being a small hotel it was always peaceful & quiet. Katie & Chris, the owners, went out of their way to be friendly & helpful providing us with scrumptious breakfasts with plenty of delicious options & refills as well as helpful pointers for places to visit & how to get there. The gardens were also lovely & setting overall fitting for its boutique description. The location is perfect for visiting nearby Slapton Sands, Gara Rock, Salcombe & Dartmouth. It was just what we needed & we will certainly stay again next time we plan a break in the South Hams. Thank you

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at the Whitehouse Devon, our first trip away since lockdown! Wish we could have visited earlier as there were hand sanitisers around the hotel and loads of space to luxuriate - so social distancing was easy.
We must have had one of the largest rooms, with beautiful Georgian windows overlooking the garden and an 'emperor' sized bed! Clearly no expense has been spared in making the bedroom and lounge areas opulent and stylish.
The hotel owners were so accommodating, letting my two children sleep in our room and our dog too! The children had lots of fun each day playing in the huge garden on a giant swing. Lots of beautiful places locally to visit - namely Bee Sands and Gara Rock.
The breakfasts were consistently excellent and we worked our way through the different hot options.
A truly lovely hospitable family who run it and made us feel so welcome. We will be back soon!

Situated near Kingsbridge, easy access to Salcombe and not too far from Dartmouth the hotel is ideally situated for a holiday. We received a warm welcome, plenty of information about the hotel, our room and locality. Our room was well appointed including a stocked fridge which included complimentary fresh milk. The weather wasn't brilliant so we couldn't enjoy the well appointed gardens and lawn consequently the Smart TV came in handy. Breakfast was served in a garden room - great choice of breakfasts (big or small) and the perfect blend of coffee for that time of day. The public rooms were very clean and well decorated with comfy furniture and reading material to hand. Drinks could be had from your room fridge or ordered from Katie who always seemed to be on hand at the right time of day.
Access by car is tricky down the narrow lane as is getting out of the car park and onto the main road for the first time.

When we arrived we received a great welcome from Chris and Katie and their lovely children. My wife Linda and I stayed in room 4 which was a large room with a big extremely comfortable bed and a big bath and en-suite shower and toilet. The breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed relaxing with a drink in the beautiful garden. I read a few very old negative reviews. Ignore them, this B&B has had nothing but great reviews since Chris and Katie took over and made this a fabulous place to relax and use as a base to explore the beautiful Devon coastline and countryside. There are plenty of good places to eat nearby although booking is necessary at busy times. We will certainly be back, we loved it.

We were two couples, one of us stayed in the cozy room and the other one in the big room. Both had amazing rain showers. The cozy room was "cozy" with very nice decoration and everything you may need to have a pleasant stay. The big room was a delightfully bright room with a bathroom almost bigger than the room itself! Super comfy 2x2m bed.
The breakfast was very varied and tasty and our hosts gave us great recommendations for walks in the area. We did a walk along the coast in the morning and then took the sea tractor to have a pint in the pub of Burgh island . What a weekend!

Definitely recommend it and will definitely come back :)

We were thrilled that Katie and Chris could let us stay in their newly refurbed attic suite. It feels like your own ‘place’ up the separate spiral stairs. The room is beautiful, light and airy with a separate lounge area which was a perfect to double up for Hen who felt he had his own ‘pad’. Doggy paradise with welcome biscuits and the sneaky sausage was a wonderful gesture we have never been offered anywhere else. Do book early not to miss this special place with such generous hosts. Thank you again for making us so welcome and we will be back .......

This is a beautifully designed boutique hotel. The rooms (we stayed in 1 and 5) are stylishly and uniquely finished. There are communal areas - also very tastefully designed and a a lovely garden providing individual seating. The breakfast is exceptional ( avocado, eggs and toast being particularly tasty). The cooked breakfast has locally sourced produce and the breakfast room and lounge both have welcoming real fires. We picked The White House based on reviews we had read. Most refer to the care given by Chris and Katie and this is a huge plus for staying here. From offering ideas for day trips, to dealing with the smallest request we had, we were looked after as well as anywhere I recall visiting. Both Katie and Chris are quick to respond to communications but there is a sincere and calming air in all they do. This has been a truly relaxing break and I would highly and warmly recommend The White House and especially the care you will receive from Chris and Katie.

My partner and I spent 3 nights at Katie/Chris’ stunning home. They were incredibly welcoming and made our trip a special one. The breakfast was great and catered to all with a choice for every dietary requirement. The grounds were beautifully kept and should we have visited in the Summer it would have been great to utilise the fire pit. The two front rooms, bar and our lovely room were designed beautifully with a mix of new and mid-century pieces. Katie/Chris were able to suggest lots of lovely walks and great restaurants prior to our stay so we were able to plan our visit accordingly. We would definitely recommend to others and look forward to returning sometime soon.

We were recommended by friends and weren’t disappointed. Chris & Katie are wonderful hosts, very friendly, efficient without being over the top and were extremely welcoming to our pampered pooch Max! They have perfected a beautiful interior with a mix of old and new but no rooms felt off limits - enjoying a G & T in front of an open fire on velvet sofas was the perfect start to lovely evenings experiencing the local restaurants. The breakfast menu was delicious and relaxed, served in a beautiful conservatory overlooking lawned gardens. Our dog friendly room overlooked the gardens and fields beyond had a full poster bed, roll top bath and en-suite with powerful rainforest shower! Gorgeous decorations and a very efficient and well stocked minibar. Although the weather wasn’t great our hosts could not have been more helpful and informative about the area. We will definitely been rebooking. A very genuine couple. Such a pleasure to meet you Chris, Kate & Jemima - keep doing what you’re doing in these very difficult times, you’ve got a piece of heaven in South Devon! R, J & M

Have just spent 4 nights here with 2 friends and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The room we had was superb (R3) - bright, light, spacious with a huge comfortable bed. The ensuite was extremely well appointed with roll top bath and a drencher shower and low floor lighting - great for visits in the night! The décor throughout the hotel was absolutely beautiful with 3 chandeliers in the breakfast room; low lamps; quirky pictures and stunning wallpapers. The grounds were also beautifully planted and maintained. And to top it all the owners, Chris and Katie, could not have been more hospitable - any request was met with "no problem" and big smiles. Their 2 children were delightful while not at all intrusive. It was an extremely relaxing few days with lots of beaches, walks and great places to eat in the surrounding district.

Does the beach allow dogs year round?
Answer from NomadGirl60
London, United Kingdom76 contributions59 helpful votes
Some beaches allow dogs during most of the year and ban them during the peak of the summer (July-Aug) but there are a few which allow dogs I think. We don't have a dog I'm afraid but am familiar with the fact that there are strict rules on some beaches.
