This hotel is in a class of its own.
The location in a quiet, green residential area of Nairobiis ideal for excursions to the Karen Blixen Museaum, Varoius craft markets, Kazuri Beads & Matt Bronze Gallery.
The hotel is stunning in its design and the decor is outstanding, further complimented by fresh flowers everywhere including in each suite. There is no sign of any wear or tear around the property and everything in our suite worked without any defects. The suites are spacious and all have wonderful views over the beautiful gardens & fountains.
The staff are exceptional, professional but very warm & friendly. The food was delicious, great choice and well presented. Room service was as good as the restaurant. The housekeeping staff keep the rooms looking immaculate and nothing is too much trouble. There is a beautiful swimming pool, naturally heated, so very refreshing after a dusty safari, as well as a small but well equipped gym. The Spa is well worth a visit.
Overall, this hotel is exceptional and I would only want to stay here in the future.

We did a staycation at this hotel for a weekend getaway from being trapped at home during coronavirus. The hotel is great! Customer service is quite good, with requests and concerns being addressed rather quickly.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable. They have balcony views to the garden and are relaxing and calm. The TVs are not smart TVs and have limited options to watch, so you need an HDMI cable to hook up devices. The internet was a little bit weaker further from the main part of the hotel. There are drinks provided and the room and room service is decent.

The food is very good. Book some time for your meals since it can take a while for the food to arrive. They have a good variety of options for food. They are sometimes out of the main dishes that catch your eye. But the food itself is delightful and the service is attentive.

We have been duly impressed with the precautions they have taken to prevent the spread of covid. Menus are digital, glasses are covered, tables are sanitized between uses, rooms are sanitized, social distancing is enforced, masks are required in public places, and sanitizer is provided liberally around the hotel. They're diligence has given us peace of mind in going there.

Sunday brunch is delicious.

We definitely recommend their weekend packages. We would stay here again.

We stayed at Hemingways on two different occasions during our trip to Kenya. The first night we stayed there was immediately after arriving around 11pm from a 12+ hour day of traveling from Uganda. We were picked up from the airport by the hotel and were SO thrilled to find that our driver brought a room service menu with him and offered to call our order in to the chef. We spoke to the chef directly, who offered for us to eat either in the dining room or in our room - which was an incredible offer given the time of night. We opted to eat in our room and were VERY happy with the food. Upon arrival, we were checked into our room which has all of the modern luxuries you would hope to find after a very long day of traveling. Anthony was our butler and helped get us acquainted with the room and brought us our dinner and promptly removed the dishes once we were done. Anthony was amazing and we were so happy to find that he was again our butler when we came back unexpectedly for a second stay. Our first stay, we arrived super late and were picked up around 11am to go to Giraffe Manor the next day. We had breakfast at the hotel, which was very good, and spent a bit of time sitting by the pool. The hotel was very quiet and we found the service all around to be great. We ended up booking a day room on our last day in Kenya, after we ended up getting stuck in the Mara for an extra night and had a full day to kill before our international flight left in the evening. This time we were here on a Saturday and found that there were 3 events happening (2 weddings and a luncheon), so the vibe was a lot different. It was super busy and a bit chaotic with all of the events, but we ended up using our room to sleep most of the day as we were exhausted from 12 days of going nonstop so it didn’t present a problem. We got massages before we left and found the spa experience to be very mediocre. Overall, I would recommend Hemingways as a good place to stopover in Nairobi, but just note that the experience could potentially vary greatly depending on whether you are there on a weekend or weekday.

My wife and I booked in for our wedding anniversary - best decision ever.

We were looking for a getaway in Nairobi which didn't feel like Nairobi. Perfect choice.

Absolutely amazing grounds and rooms that create an ambiance like you are far away.

Fantastic top class meals. Kudos to Executive Chef Arun who met us personally and made sure everything was ok. The food is incredibly especially the Sunday brunch. That is a must try. Soothing jazz, fantastic views and setting plus of course an amazing amazing spread.

The rooms were huge classy and tastefully designed reminding you of the 'out of africa' theme. Oh and the TV that automatically rises from a rustic chest - lovely touch.

The service from check in was amazing. Big shout out to Jacky who went out of her way to get us the best seats even when we explained that we didn't know that we had to make brunch reservations. This one needs a promotion or staff of the month award.

Capis who served us dinner was so welcoming we felt ever so comfortable.

The bar team Ken and Ben were so energetic they need a red bull award lol. Eunice was ever so caring and friendly - makes you want to stay at the bar all day.

The butler service is amazing plus one can do in room dining without any extra cost. What a way to feel your money is worth every cent.

Kennedy, Collins and violet at front office were extremely cool, friendly and professional.

All in all you can't go wrong at this boutique facility. Its all that you want and even more.

I might have talked a lot about the staff but they are what makes this place happen.

If you want to keep your marriage fire burning or spoil each other as a couple look no further. In fact don't look anywhere else at all.

Whilst booking we were scared due to Covid, but we were beyond impressed. Clean, all staff with masks on full time, wearing it the right way above their nose, sanitising stands everywhere, including room.

As we are vegetarian we went with less expectations, but Oh my! We were very happy, Eggless breads, desserts and also got Masala Tea on request. Food was so good!
A special mention goes out for Chef Severin. Humble man with a big smile and a bigger heart. Thankyou for making our trip memorable.

Hemingways has the best planning and execution team. From my first contact with Mr. Francis Keter whose communication was always prompt and who actualized my vision, to Mr.Kennedy at the front office who saw suddenly added guests to the party and effectively rearranged the setting, all the way to the restaurant manager Mr.Zeddy who constantly checked to ensure we had no issues and graciously offered to act as a photographer, to our waiter Mr.Hillary who moved swiftly and professionally with sweet temparament.Let me not forget to thank the chef for delicious array of mouth watering food. Asabteni nyote.

Furthermore, the hotel is very covid protected, maintaining social distancing and adhering to the strict rules of the Ministry of Health. They ensure thorough cleaning and check of temparatures before check in.

The beauty and luxury of the place in a serene and quiet neighbourhood encourages relaxation and bonding.

It is for sure a place to revisit.

I really enjoyed my stay here. It is an expensive hotel and I felt it had all the luxury details. Due to covid some things were a little off due to staff trying not to be in the room too much, but I felt this didn't warrant a mark off due to the fact it is because of the covid protocols and probably does not reflect service of 'more normal' times. Things like turn down service (as we expect and want) had to be requested so request it when they show you around the room and don't leave things to chance to be on the safe side. :)
We had a very busy schedule for our 2-day stay so I requested ahead of our stay that we be placed near the lobby. It was a great location so don't think you will get a worse room. I am not sure but the property looked sprawling and I saw golf carts so I think if you room is further away they will pick you up if needed, but you would have to leave time for this. If you are staying for a more relaxed visit it may be nicer to be located more into the gardens.
We had 25-26 (two adjoining rooms). They were perfect. The rooms are all suites so a great size and the bathroom was nice and large with separate bath tub and shower.
The gardens were lush and the hotel had wonderful decor with a fusion of contemporary and colonial decor. We loved eating our meals on the terrace. The staff was always around if needed and very friendly.
This was a great base for sightseeing; we were booked to visit Nairobi National Park the first afternoon for a game drive and then the next day we did the giraffe centre, the baby elephant sanctuary, carnivore for lunch and Karen Blixen Museum. All these attractions were in the neighbourhood of the hotel. I Would recommend a stay here as it is the best location in the lush suburbs of Karen, the food and bar is enjoyable as well as very comfortable rooms.

August 2021 - two night stay. My partner and I stayed at Hemingways Nairobi for a post safari break before international travel. My partner is a Hyatt Globalist and booked the property using WOH points. Excellent points value at 30,000 points/night. As this is a SLH property we were pleasantly surprised that they honored Globalist status with a room upgrade. free breakfast, and late check out offers. Some Hyatt SLH's don't honor top status as per Hyatt T&C's, so our expectations were minimal and my partner was happy to be recognized for her loyalty status.

From entry to the very secure property to our departure we absolutely enjoyed ever aspect of our stay. The staff were friendly, helpful, and professional. The hotel and grounds are immaculate. We only left the property once for a concierge arranged visit to the Karen Blixen Museum as our intent was to chill and enjoy. Very quiet atmosphere when compared to our hectic, noisy hotel location in central Nairobi during our pre-safari visit. Very service oriented property - room butler assigned was efficient and unobtrusive, bar and dining room staff attentive, reception staff handled our on site Covid pre flight tests perfectly. We enjoyed evening drinks in the lounge and dined breakfast and dinner in the Brassiere restaurant. Our butler served coffee and snacks in the afternoon on our balcony. Prices were commensurate with other luxury stays in Kenya and cuisine was great quality.

Our room (the Bogart Suite) was very comfortable. Spacious size suite at 800+ sq ft, balcony with a view of the Ngong Hills, spacious bathroom and walkin closet. Room included soft drinks, snacks, and fruit platter. Excellent bedding and pillows on request made for comfortable sleep. Everything was in excellent order and well maintained, and stocked with quality amenities.

Our compliments to the Hemingway staff for a very relaxing stay and recognizing my partner as Globalist. I highly recommend this luxury property while visiting the Nairobi suburbs. A bit of a drive to the airport as Nairobi traffic is horrible but minutes from the Blixen and other attractions in Karen.

My husband and I have stayed here for 2 nights and we have found the service to be extremely slow and inattentive. Room service is very slow and that’s if you’re lucky for someone to pick up the phone when you call. We have spent more time waiting for someone to serve us than actually enjoying our stay. They seem to clearly be understaffed. It’s a premium hotel that has offered us 2-star service.

One can eat at the hotel’s restaurant at a reasonable price. There aren’t any restaurants near by but with a taxi, you can go to a mall about 10-15 minutes away where there are plenty of restaurants.

Traffic IS terrible! Plan an hour is the bottom line. Karen is a bit closer than downtown Nairobi which is good. Still a lot of construction right before you enter the airport road. The Nairobi airport has virtually no lounges etc. so you dont want to hang out TOO long. Once you get there, if you are flying business class be sure to say something and you get routed to a MUCH faster line! If not, have your PCR documents and your transit document and passport ready and see if you can get into a shorter line by asking an attendant (it works :). Enjoy Hemingway's we had dinner on the patio and it was sumptuous and lovely. Lots of fun stuff to do around Karen and much lower key than the CBD. If you have a night to spare go to Tamamabo restaurant as well around the corner. Beautiful gardens.
