Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at Berwick Lodge with family and friends. We had an amazing time, the staff were so attentive and the food was delicious. We had so much help prior to booking as well with Magdalena. Absolutely superb day and experience

Stayed as part of a wedding party & had an amazing time. Aside from the fabulous wedding itself, the venue is superb in it's own right, & our room was wonderful. The staff are all really nice, especially Hugo & Lydia, & nothing was too much trouble for them. The food & service at both the wedding & the next morning's breakfast was spot on, & we couldn't fault a thing! Thanks yet again for a lovely stay.

We were a bit disappointed. The selection of sandwiches were a bit disappointing. The beef and horseradish were good. Not so with cheese and pickle which the pickle was really sweet I scraped mine off. The prawns were not my cup of tea in fact for my other daughter who did not eat it, the last not memerable at all. The pot of tea was very weak. It was stirred by myself and left to brew for 15 minutes. Out of the whole pot my daughter drank, only 2 leaves popped out. The waitress offered to put more tea leaves in it??? I asked for a coffee instead. The scones were lovely but the rest I gave away; the biscuit, panacotta and macaron. A lot of local friends said it was great at Berwick Lodge but my experience today, not so. I won't be going back. Luckily it wasn't for my birthday!

Thank you for your review on trip advisor. I am sorry you did not like our sandwich selection . We serve roast beef and horseradish, prawn paprika and mayo, smoked cheddar and tomato chutney and pepper and sundried pesto. Our teas are loose leaf teas and we did offer to make it stronger for you . I know tea strengths are quite a personal thing and we try and be somewhere in between. When we presented the afternoon tea stands to the table and before you tried the cakes you told us you would not eat any of our homemade cakes on offer so we organised a homemade Brownie for you. Hopefully the sun is starting to shine where you are now after all of this rain. Best wishes Sarah

We were staying two days for my wife’s birthday treat and Berwick Lodge delivered! Lots of small hotels now describe themselves as ‘boutique’ presumably hoping that use of the word alone will somehow elevate their establishment to another level. Fortunately, Berwick Lodge has an owner/manager who understands the true definition and the level of expectation that the word boutique represents, so, has lovingly created surroundings coupled with a staff ethos that delivers on it! From front of house to housekeeping Berwick Lodge seems to have a team entirely comprised of smiling staff who are happy in what they do and where they are doing it, as a result, customers enjoy professional individual service delivered with warmth and personality by people who seem to genuinely care about your experience. Bedrooms are all individual yet cohesively themed with very luxurious and beautifully tiled bathrooms that will instantly make you wish you had booked to stay longer. We stayed in Galatia a smaller double but with a large bathroom the shower in which was just an amazingly good way to start the day. We also found ourselves spending a lot longer than was strictly necessary each evening soaking in the slipper bath before dressing for dinner. When you do drag yourself away from the bathrooms and bedrooms you can relax in the Arts and Crafts panelled lounge with its open fire and table service or gaze over the garden towards Wales from the dining rooms while enjoying either a very good breakfast or an excellent dinner. When you do leave the lodge, Clifton village is just a 15-minute drive away, so the best of Bristol is easily accessible, yet, when you return through the gates it’s to a warmer, more relaxed, intimate and indulgent world!

We booked Berwick for our Wedding after experiencing a Wedding here as a guest! We looked at other venues but quite frankly nothing compared. The staff are so friendly & helpful. Our wedding Co-ordinatore Georgia was brilliant to work with from start to finish, nothing was too much trouble and she made the whole planning stages easy (& enjoyable!) Our family & friends throughly enjoyed our day and all said how amazing Berwick is! Our wedding breakfast was amazing and all guest throughly enjoyed the food. Cant recommend the food enough! Guests who stayed the night were so impressed with their rooms & all had good things to say. The grounds are also stunning and beautifully maintained, some great photo opportunities! If you’re looking for a Wedding Venue in Bristol we would highly suggest checking out Berwick, it’s great! So central just off the M5. We can’t wait to go back for an afternoon tea and reminisces our day! Thankyou Team Berwick! xXx

Dear Caroline, Thank you for your review on trip advisor . Whilst I understand we do not always get everything right this is NOT a true picture of Berwick Lodge at all. We have amazing incredibly hard working housekeepers here at Berwick Lodge who have been with the company for 5 years now and care deeply about the cleanliness of hotel and its guests . Thank you for mentioning the green light above the balcony door this is on the new emergency lighting in the room and apparently it can be turned off. I have passed your lovely comments on about the staff and food. Best wishes Sarah Arikan Owner and General Manager

It was my retirement lunch which I held on my 70th birthday, The professionalism from first contact to final driving away was faultless. The effort from staff showed true commitment to delivering 5* star service. We used a pianist to provide background music ( Travis) recommended by the Hotel. He was also great My guests were all impressed, as was I by Berwick lodge Hotel

We stayed in the mews building “Caspian room”. Had a terrible nights sleep in a small room with a rock hard bed. Overall a bit disappointing for the price. Pros - Good pillows. - Quiet location. - Great shower. Big Cons - Rock hard mattress (a clearly known issue as it has two extra padded mattress toppers). - “Wide bed” is actually two single mattresses in one frame. - Toilet door has transparent glass with line of sight from bed to toilet. No privacy. - Undersized duvet for bed width. - Photos misleading as lobby looked like part of the room. The photo of the sofa, is in the lobby, which is shared with the other room in this building and unusable. Small cons - Double charged for room (two receipts but got refund on pointing out the error) - Misleading through omission. Spiral staircase is external and feels treacherous in the wet. - Thin walls and next to other room

Dear Alec, I’m so sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your stay! Thank you for taking the time to come back and let us know of your experience and suggest some possible improvements for us. Sadly, on booking.com we aren’t able to write our own descriptions whereby we can make a clear note of the external spiral staircase, shared common space, and proximity to the 2nd bedroom. The photograph of the sofa area and external staircase are trying to demonstrate what we aren’t able to say in words, but on reflection we can see where this might not translate – thank you for bringing this to our attention. Our team have already updated this on the booking.com site and have triple checked that the description provided by booking.com is as accurate as can be allowed within the paramaters that they dicate. We’ve had so many previously wonderful reviews on our ‘comfy beds’ and in fact it is one of our top review points on booking.com (9.4/10) – however, that doesn’t take away from your experience and we appreciate this can be such a personal preference – therefore we will review with our team your comments on our mattress, Emma mattress topper and duvet. With all that said, I truly hope you will visit us again and try a different bedroom – be sure to read our detailed descriptions on our own website or call direct to speak with our friendly team who would be delighted to talk you through each unique room to find the best one to suit you! Best wishes Sarah - Owner and General Manager
