We stayed in one of the tent-style rooms with a nice view towards the river, the porch was perfect to enjoy sunrise/sunset or simply enjoy the view and sounds of the jungle. The owner was very nice and had great tips for exploring the national park. Food was also nice and they were very flexible when my friend had a stomach ache and didn’t feel like eating anything off the menu.

The location is lovely right in the national park. The owners are very friendly and willing. However the room did not live up to the website photos. My room was dark, the outside light did not work and both my room and the bathroom was dirty. The three light switches at the door to my room did not turn any lights on. The AC did not work and that was fixed after the first night but they did not provide a remote so I could not turn it on. The bed had mosquito netting but had gaps between the sections rather than overlapping.

Fantastic place run by great people. A perfect place to stay while exploring Cat Tien national park. The owners went out of their way to help us plan our stay in the park. The lodge itself cooks great food and is full of information relating the park

The best days of this hotel appear to be in the past. There are no bed runners, crisp white sheets or duvets, nor decorative pillows as presented in the website photos. The current state of this hotel is comparable to an unkept budget hotel rather than a luxury lodge as it advertises and prices itself to be. We saw three rooms while we were there (tented and not tented). PROS - Food is quite tasty - James, one-half of the couple who run this hotel, is an extremely knowledgeable guide! - James' wife, Mai, was very lovely and always asking us about our wellbeing - Bicycles are on site to borrow, some with baby seats - Location - right inside the park and easy access to trails - Kind staff CONS - The wooden rails on the tented room platforms are rotting away and numerous parts of the rope fencing are missing - Linens in the rooms (including the curtains) are very basic with old fashioned patterns (again, not what you see in the photos) - No face or hand towels in the bathrooms, no bathroom toiletries except a small bottle of basic liquid soap and another room had basic bar hand soap - No minibar/fridge in any rooms - Unclean rooms. A used sheet was left hanging on the bed frame, the bathroom was filled with gecko poop and used shampoo packets. Mold film lined the shower. It was clear the bathroom had not been cleaned in quite some time. -The a/c was only turned on for a few hours in the evening rather than staggered throughout the day as advertised. The rooms are not insulated from the midday heat as advertised either - they are very hot. - The baby cots we expected to have did not include mattresses. Instead, we were given piles of thick duvets to put in the cots. These were ineffective as you could still feel the ribbing of the bed frame underneath. While a few of these cons would be acceptable at a budget hotel, they are unacceptable at a hotel that advertises itself as luxury.

I ran, or rode actually, across this place. I had had a couple local hotel misfires on my visit to Cat Tien. I was seeking a peaceful idyllic view of the river, surrounded by the jungle. A place I could enjoy the sounds of the jungle waking in the morning and relax after hiking and biking through the in the evenings. When you stay outside the park on the river you may we’ll be subject to loud karaoke at night and locals having a noisy drinking session at your hotel restaurant. I bailed on that scene and transferred to the official park lodging. It offered a very simple room, no views and then I was informed that their bar and restaurant offered karaoke on occasion. Hmm I was after a peaceful commune with nature, foiled again. Well, I discovered Forest Floor lodge and transferred. As you can see from the pictures it is beautiful. So, with that said here is what you don’t readily detect looking on the internet. It is well inside the boundaries of the park, on the river and about 2km from the park headquarters. This means a peaceful environment. There are two other important notes. This location allows you to head out early on jungle trips, or go out on evening adventures. Stay outside and you can join everyone else on the first and last ferry rides. No getting into the park at 6am for your hike to Crocodile Lake. You have the place to yourself. Next is the organization running the place, scientists/naturalists. Spot an interesting bird, beast or insect and they know it and can tell you fascinating details. James in particular, a young British naturalist was a font of invaluable knowledge on routes, sights and all creatures big and small. The food is very good delicious and hearty fare to prepare you for a long March or ride and in the evenings when you are hungry from your adventures. Both Vietnamese and Western Farr was excellent. My glam ping “tent” with tiled bathroom with hot water, AC and comfy bed was a fantastic place to have morning tea or relax overlooking the river in the evenings. I’ve been fortunate to visit many places including jungles. This experience was some very memorable and special. Highly recommended.

We stayed in a comfortable well appointed platform tent with a deck overlooking the river. The lodge with delicious meals, lovely deck, comfortable sofas was close by. The staff, Abbi , loannis and Ka tu yem are kind, helpful and very knowledgeable about the surrounding jungle and its varied and diverse ecology. The lodge operation is based on sound practices of sustainability. The food is great. An upgrade of the bicycles would be nice and maybe some hammocks. The birding is spectacular.

There is a lot to like about Forest Floor Lodge. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We had Abi do several walks with us and she was excellent. The food is good. We stayed in the tents, which were very good. We probably had higher expectations of seeing more animals than what we did. The gibbon rehabilitation centre was closed when we were there and the dawn gibbon guided walk was booked out for two weeks, which was disappointing (it would hav e been good to be forewarned that we needed to book so far ahead). While the bear rehabilitation centre was excellent, there wasn’t lots of other animals around during our walks. But it was still a good place to go and we’d recommend Forest Floor.

For those who expect 5 star level in the jungle, stay away. For those (especially city slickers) who look for a true experience in the nature, go. Board and lodging absolutely OK for a jungle lodge in a developping country. If you want nature and 5 star level, go to an overpriced lodge in South Africa. A must is a guided walk in the jungle. Hear and watch monkeys, birds, snails, all kind of insects etc. Ask for James as your tour guide. The Britishman has been living there for 6 years to explore insects and plants and how everything is connected to one another in jungle life. The man is a walking encyclopaedia. The passion with which he explains the mysteries of mother nature to "ignorant tourists" is contagiuos. Wouldn´t be surprised if he holds someday a chair for zoology at a renowned university in England or the US. Plan to stay for more than one day. So you have an chance to visit the Bear Rescue Center. Poor gall bears and other exotic species which were freed from captivity or from fools who kept them as trophy animals under inappropriate conditions, are treated there and prepared for a life in freedom. Heartbreaking. And, finally, if you are looking for a real down to earth experience, stay one night in the camp at Crocodile Lake. Attention: You sleep in a room which resembles a prison cell, have dinner which is prepared by rangers on an open fireplace ,enjoy a gorgeous sunset, get up at 5.00 am, walk in the jungle again and listen how its inhabitants wake up. Would give 6 stars, if possible. t

The staff at Forest Lodge were friendly and helpful. James our guide was very informative and we enjoyed his trek. However the website depicts a luxury lodge, with full amenities. This is most definitely not the case. We stayed in one of the rapid tents and whilst the views and location are stunning the fabric of the surroundings and state of the tent is not. Whilst trying to photograph the tent my husband leant on the rail, which ran around the balcony. The rail was so loose and connected to a rotten upright, both gave way and he fell backwards off the balcony. He fell 6 feet into the jungle below, landing on his head. He was LUCKY not to kill himself. There was no medical kit at the lodge and so I had to patch him up as best I could. The staff repaired the rail by nailing it back to the rotten upright and wired the snapped rope back together. This could easily happen again and the next person could have a serious injury or kill them selves. There appears to have been no investment since the lodge opened. Although the food was good, most of the very limited menu was not available. The bar was not stocked, there was no hot water, the pillows were like bricks and badly stained. The website even says there is a mini bar in your tent, which is also untrue. I am angry because the website sells this as a luxury stay which it obviously isn’t. The website needs to be changed with more recent photos to reflect it’s current state or alternatively the prices lowered. I feel the owners are only concerned with taking your money and not investing in their property. It’s a shame as the staff are lovely and the location fantastic. If you want basic accommodation in a beautiful setting then this is what you will get. Do not be fooled by the website.

We loved our time here. Yes the price is a bit high compared to the rest of Vietnam but is the location and views that you pay for. This is an experience for animal lovers, who are laid back and are mainly interested in natural beauty and animals. We went into hike with James who is an English academic who is passionate about local fauna. He shared so much of his knowledge with our 9 year old who is obsessed with spiders and snakes. The owner was very helpful and communicated well with us organising transfers and trips with the national park in advance. All of the staff on the lodge were friendly and helpful, especially Catherine. It could do with better mattresses!! Totally recommend it for animal lovers!!
