Amazing value for money!
Straight across from the famed Coco Bongo you'd be pressed to guess this jewel of a sanctuary can be so calm and accomodating. The laid back cabin-like rooms around the central lush green courtyard and pool make this a real boutique experience: it is truly an oasis amidst the concrete jungle. Everything was on point and the Spa, although small, has everything you need to feel pampered; from the accomodations, hidro circuit and overall decor and ambiance, to the lovely, professional, dedicated staff.
Me and my girl were on cloud 9 while celebrating our 7th anniversary!
Highly recommend!

Very good experience during my stay at the hotel. Adult environment in a very nice hotel and surrounded by all the activity of Playa del Carmen, with a very central location and very friendly staff. I highlight the cleanliness of the rooms, the variety in the breakfast buffet, the pool and massage area and the very good price-quality ratio of the cocktails.

We loved this place! An absolute gem. The hotel is very picturesque! Great location by shops, restaurants and bars and the beach is a short walk away (5 mins). Our room was large and very clean, and the bed was very comfortable! The hotel staff exceeded our expectations. We would 100% recommend and will come back when visiting Playa Del Carmen

The Good: The grounds around the pool area of this hotel are very beautiful and well kept. It is located just off the busier parts of downtown and makes for easy walking to restaurants, coffee shops ( I highly recommend MiDoggo) and even Walmart. There is a park nearby that has food or craft vendor market most evenings. The not "free breakfast included" (see the not so good comments) is delicious and the restaurant staff are attentive and very friendly. Housekeeping staff are genuinely kind and eager to assist. Carlos the concierge was by far the most helpful and engaging of the all front desk staff. He provided wonderful input on any questions we had and was genuinely enjoyable to visit with. He is an asset to Magic Blue!
The Not So Good: Upon check in, many of the amenities we had been promised as included (namely breakfast and spa services )in our hotel cost were, in fact, only available for an additional fee. I have included a screenshot of their Trip Advisor listing which advertises free breakfast and spa services credit. The screenshot was taken after our stay was completed, so even though we brought it to management's attention, those features are still being advertised. It is a boutique hotel and it is their prerogative to honor or not honor any additional amenities or services they desire. My advice would be to directly correspond with the hotel prior to your arrival so that you have written record from staff on site as to what is included in your price. The breakfast buffet as I mentioned was yummy and a decent price of $7 per person. We did encounter other guests that were under the impression that breakfast was included in the price of the hotel room.
The rooms have more of a dormitory feel, rather than a boutique hotel/spa ambiance, but the beds are comfy and the rooms quiet. Some days we had plenty of hot water and other days not so much. Hopefully, you are not holed up in your room and are out enjoying beautiful Playa and the room style will not matter that much to you.
Again, as long as you know exactly what you are getting, I am sure you will enjoy your stay. It is a blessing to travel and we had a great time visiting Playa!

First off, this hotel is ideally situated for your stay in Playa Del Carmen. It's on 10th Avenue and directly opposite Coco Bongo so the hotel provides ear plugs. Our room was at the back so we didn't experience noise from the popular night club.
The hotel was built in an oasis style and is a good place to chill out but is showing its age.
The fittings are rusty, the hot water only worked every other day, there's zero privacy as the pool bar is right outside the room, leaf cutter ants roam the terrace nightly and the sink was blocked.
The concierge does act on any issues you have except the hot water which they shrug shoulders about so i guess it's an ongoing issue. We did ask to move room and the concierge took 200pesos before looking into this, but the following day said no room changes were available. I had to ask firmly for the return of my 200pesos.

One thing to understand is that the Double Rooms have twin beds (concrete bases so no chance of pushing them together) , the king size room has a double bed, and the suite is a king room with a bath, but still only one room. The rooms are spacious enough though and remember to tip housekeeping.
Most of the staff are pleasant enough but the lady on the pool bar seems permanently miserable.

To the rear of Room 21 is also where the maintenance team store waste in plastic bags so when it rains its very noisy as its right outside the window.

The hotel has a 4star Tui rating, but the room is definitely only a 2 star.

Hotel is very central to Avenido 5, with all the shops, and restaurants but once inside it is very quiet. The rooms are all set around the pool and the grounds are lovely. The beds are very very high but very comfortable. Strange layout which I think is maybe common to Mexico with the wash basin in the bedroom. The shower room has a shower and toilet, shower takes a while to heat up but is quite good once it has. Towels were changed everyday and room was cleaned every day, not sure how many times bedding was changed but seemed quite regular. The areas around the pool were very clean, the sunbeds were comfortable but looked a bit manky as bring material not easy to clean, so definitely need a towel to go over them. Breakfast is in the restaurant attached to the hotel so still within the grounds. Typically mexican food, a little bit confusing as no labels to know what anything was. However there was cereal, toast and omelette. You could also have jelly, salad, fruit, different types of meat dishes and vegetables so no shortage of choice. The staff were friendly and helpful. My only problem with the hotel was the manager and the mosquitos!!! Whilst we were there they decided to I assume treat the wood that the rooms are built from and two guys came in whilst everyone is sitting around the pool and starting blasting the rooms with something which sent out clouds of smoke and fumes there was no prior warning of this!!!! On a similar theme one of the rooms was being refurbished and the dust and fumes coming from it was extremely unpleasant, after asking for the door to be kept closed with no luck I reported it to the reception. The manager came out and spoke to the workmen, but said to us it was for their safety, she didn't seem to take into account they had masks on, but we didn't!

I ordered the suite for my girlfriends birthday, the only reason I upgraded the room was to enjoy the bath.
The bath drain was rusted and it released rust bits in to
the water to a point that we didn't use the bath.
Plus the room had ants.
We noticed that at night and a guy came to see it, he told us he cant do nothing at night but he will make sure
the manager will speak with us at the morning.
At the morning the manager came to see.
He said that the ants is jot normal and that he checked the bath yesterday and there was no rust (like rust developed in one hour) and basically said that it's our problem we noticed this only at night time, they said that because they are a small hotel they cant refund the difference between the suite and regular room or a free
breakfast.
We are totally disappointed and this ruined my
girlfriends birthday.

There was nothing “magic” about this hotel except a very nice staff. The place is quite dated with towels that are scratchy from a 1000 washes and an AC unit that makes noise through the night.
As for the spa which is tiny, you are given a time when you can go and told to leave after that time is up. You are not encouraged to return unless you pay for a service.

Probably the most shocking thing was the breakfast. As it opened, several tourist busses arrived and ran at the buffet basically pushing any hotel guest out of their way. The place was packed and all for people who clearly were not guests of the hotel.

Finally to add insult to injury, the coffee in the room was chargeable which was ok, however they were specially unclear. It said 35 pesos ($1,80) to use the coffee machine but upon checkout they charged that per coffee pod used.

This is a hotel trying to get as much out of its guests as possible without offering very much in benefits. I would absolutely give this a miss. EM

Such a shame as I’d say the staff let this place down.

The actual hotel is beautiful, the grounds and the rooms were perfectly comfortable and beautiful.
The pool area is lovely - the spa is nice but after doing the hydro once we didn’t use it. I do recommend asking for a room up in the trees though as feel like that’s a more private quieter experience.

We just felt like the staff let the place down. And I do agree after already having a week in Mexico that it was no tip no service. And even when we did tip in cash they still slyly added it onto the bill as you’re often unsure what you’re signing for.

After the first evening of unhelpful/unhappy bar staff we didn’t use it again and decided to go off site and get our own alcohol and drinks from Walmart and surrounding restaurants.

However the lady on reception who checked us in (didn’t get her name but long dark hair) really was patient and couldn’t do enough to help us throughout.

The location is excellent and we didn’t find it noisy at all. It’s so easy to reach the beach and also traditional Mexican restaurants a few blocks back from 5th Avenue and the craziness.

Breakfast is ok but we had much nicer at a previous resort. Good omelettes though!

The tour lady in the lobby seemed extremely overpriced.

Stayed as a couple in room 11 for 10days. We have to say that our expectations were not met unfortunately, we travelled from a long way and was disappointing to deal and come across the things that we had to. Everything costs in the room so beware, even coffee and water, very ridiculous. Housekeeping do a very good job, we couldn’t complain. They have a happy hour from 12-6pm but only for cocktails we were not made aware about beer therefore had to meet a bill at the end, you can’t pay immediately, everything has to be put to the room. When it was raining, we even had to sign a check for it in case we lost it 500pesos, we were quite shocked. Overall the service and staff are not 4star unfortunately. But at the end of our stay was the biggest shock of all, we have travelled a lot all over the world but have never seen something like this, basically we paid our bill and waited for transfers, when the transfer arrived, we understood in Spanish what the staff spoke about in between, they talked about that we left no tips, why should we leave tips? For what? Because we didn’t leave any tips, they basically watched us take 4 heavy suitcases out the reception area, didn’t hold the door or anything, no tips no service, very very disappointing and so unpleasant, that is not the way to treat tourists that pay alot of money for their holiday.

The hotel es at 10th avenue eventhough seems like the hotel is in tulum at the inside, No smell of seaweed, great place to to stay in seaweed season. The inside is a magical garden with bungalow vibe around a pool and a amazing cocktail and book bar. Perfect for couples who like to chill by the pool and wish to experience wellness activities.

Answer from Miguel H

Yes. I was in Playa two days ago and the water was green and ther were no seaweeds in sight... but it still is seaweed season AND hurricane season. So, it's a game of chance but you have to be ready and expect both this time of the year. There's almost no waves ever in the caribbean (even with hurricanes waves are small and not powerful) so every watersport here is wind or reef related, or fishing. Playa is not only a beach destination as it's built up quite an offer of attractions within the city or the surrounding area: whenever the beach is not nice you still have plenty of cenotes, lagoons, waterparks and even the west side of Cozumel island, a ferry ride away. Fine dining restaurants, commercial plazas, a Cirque du Soleil show, grupo Xcaret's many parks and attractions, other operators too. Bottom line, don't expect to surf here, don't expect the postal turqoise waters from May to October, but Playa and all it has to offer are plenty to have a great time all year round!
