We stayed in a Standard Twin Room for 1 night after a long day exploring the northern parts of Iceland. We arrived rather late, and about quarter to nine, and were given a room facing the carpark of the hotel, which is a little disappointing.

Of all the Fosshotels that we stayed at during our road trip all around the island, this room was the priciest of them all. The room was more spacious than the others, and the décor throughout the hotel is very modern and elegant. Our beds were comfortable, and the room was well cleaned and heated. The shower was hot with good water pressure, and good quality toiletries were provided for. Wifi was fast and free. We slept very well at night, as it was very quiet, and the black-out curtains worked great.

We had booked dinner prior to arriving (this is advisable) and the food was first-class and very delicious. We also had breakfast (included in our room rate) the following morning, and were very satisfied with the spread and variety that was being offered. They even provided us with gluten-free bread when requested. The dining area provided a stunning view to Lake Myvatn (see our photos).

One thing that stood out most for us was the service of all the staff, from the front desk to the restaurant/bar. They were all very polite, efficient, friendly and professional.

For the price we had paid for the room, we are very satisfied with both the room and service, and have no qualms in recommending this hotel to others.

We liked this modern hotel overlooking a lava field and the Myvatn lake with distant craters and mountains, the stylish interior much more than the exterior, but tastes differ. Staff was helpful and friendly. Our lake viewing/superior room was comfortable and spacious. Initially we had booked a standard room but the view from this room at the backside of the hotel was so disappointing that we decided to change for a lake viewing room. Beds, bathroom, Wi-Fi, breakfast: all were excellent. Dinner was also very good but quite expensive, like everything on Iceland according to continental European standard.
What we missed in our room was a booklet with information including breakfast and dinner time, the restaurant menu, the ins- and outs of the sauna, check out time e.s.o.
The only somewhat disappointing facility was the sauna. First of all towels were missing. There is only one room, a dry hot sauna, but no steam sauna, cold bath or other type of cold dip pool. But yes, there was a shower with cold, but certainly not ice-cold, water. When you visit a dry sauna it may be pleasant to lay down and relax, thus to have a type of headrest. Therefore, this type of sauna room is usually equipped with some type of wooden pillows, but not this sauna. While most people are used to visit a sauna naked, it was not clear what was expected from the guests in this sauna. There is a privacy issue since the sauna area is separated from the hotel by a fully transparent glass wall and door, implying that hotel guests not visiting the sauna can see what is going on inside without any barrier. During my visit hotel guests just walked in for a curious quick look! Therefore, I decided to keep my swimming short on this time! Clearly, the sauna needs clear improvements. Obviously, a frosted glass wall and door would be the first thing to consider.

Newer hotel with Modern style, enough space in a room, beautiful inside . Room cleaning was not great (soap not refilled, towels not changed, cups not cleaned)- small things. Restaurant in the hotel probably the best chance for fine dining in Myvatn, but its not that great. Not a lot to chose from, and taste was just ok. Breakfast buffet is just ok too.
Overall, loved the style of the room, and appreciated enough space. Would recommend it

Big (dis)avantage of being one of the very few restaurants around, the food was truly horrible. I had the shellfish tagliatelle, it looked and tasted like it had been made at least a day before. It swam in fat (oil? cream? It looked so undecided, as if it had turned bad) and had no seasoning. The seafood was fresh at least even though did not taste like much, with only four mussels with broken pieces of shell mixed with the pasta. I couldn't eat half of it.
My boyfriend had the beef steak with wedges. The meat was warmed up from the freezer and from an undetermined part of the animal as it had no form... The wedges were tasteless and the very few mushrooms were without seasoning and full of water so not freshly cooked.
We didn't dare order dessert as none of us had enjoyed our food. Fortunately, we had some leftover food from out midday picnic.
Sad for a hotel with usually high standards. We nonetheless have to say that, as I complained, the waitress didn't charge us the pasta, which allowed the hotel to kind of "save face".

A group of five of us stayed here in two rooms for one night during our Ring Road trip. The cost was high (no surprise given location and most costs are high in Iceland) but we thought it was worth it. The beds were very comfortable and there were several nice sitting areas scattered about the property on various floors. We had a relatively inexpensive (2,300 k) breakfast one morning which had many nice food options. The front desk person was extremely friendly and had good advice on what to do in the local area.

We drove all around the ring road and this was our favorite hotel. The suite was spacious, everything was clean, and the shower had excellent water pressure. The hotel feels basically new, even though nearly 5 years old. Suggestion for the hotel: please do away with cushions and runners on the bed. These are not cleaned between guests and are totally unnecessary especially in a pandemic era.

Sauna was great (got very hot), but always ran out of towels after dinner. Even requests to the front desk to restock towels went unheeded.

Breakfast was tasty but offered exactly the same cuisine as everywhere else we went in Iceland (eggs, bacon, cold cuts, bread, limited fruit). At least it was well executed.

View from the hotel of the lake was really great. Beware the cheapest rooms face the parking lot. Hotel has no air conditioning but this was not a problem in early September. I might not feel the same way in July.

Parking was limited when we returned late at night, with cars parked pretty much anywhere they could. This is probably a known issue for the hotel.

Very good hotel in a good location if you’re visiting the Myvatn area. Lake view room has a very nice view, otherwise it’s a view of the car park for the standard room. Staff were very friendly and accommodating on arrival and breakfast is a must have. The choice and quality was excellent. We were warned a couple of weeks before arriving that the dinner menu was reduced to soup and bread during our stay which was disappointing. But to our surprise we found a buffet on offer with a very nice selection of fish and pork and it was great. However…we were not told in advance that it was a buffet as we were expecting soup (we had had a big lunch in advance) nor that it was 5900 ISK per person which despite it being of good quality was very expensive. The hotel sort of had us by the scruff of our necks on this because it was too late to find somewhere else to eat and dinner options in the area are somewhat limited. Rooms are basic but nice and clean, the hotel appears modern with a lovely wooden Icelandic look to it. Overall a good stay.

The hotel and location is beautiful but our experience was not the best. First we had to wait 20 minutes to check in (no line, just some issue with one couple, with 3 staff members assisting).
We dined at the restaurant and had to ask for everything (that usually are served by the waiter beforehand) we also had to wait a long time for service and had to ask them to remove our plates, bring menu, bring desert menu etc. (not normal for this type of hotel/restaurant).
Our room is nice but freezing cold - the staff did bring extra electric heating.
We could not sleep due to loud noices in the building (air conditioning, running water in pipes, showers from other rooms, people walking, talking etc. - we have never experienced that much noice in a hotel before. I asked for ear plugs, but they do not have ones...
Overall, our stay at Fosshotel Myvatn was not good, I would give it 1-2 stars max, at this point.

We spent two nights at Fosshotel Myvatn. The staff were so kind and helpful. The room was spacious and clean. Bed was confortable and there were two pillows for you to choose the level of comfort that you prefer the most and I would give one extra point for the shower because it is one of the few hotels I have been in Iceland that you can have a shower without splashing all over the bathroom.
The breakfast was excellent and you can choose from a wide variety of products.
The only negative point is that we would have liked more hangers
