After two weeks traveling along the coast from Monte Carlo to Cannes, it was a peaceful break from all the traffic and crowd. We came to the area to Castellane for some exciting water sports and after a lot of research this hotel was the best in the area. It was a tough year and a half for most in the hospitality industry and I did notice the staff to guest ratio was on the smaller side. But to make up for that, everyone was super nice and went out of their way to help in the best way they could and was prompt with our requests. We came with a dog and required assistance with walking her while we were on our water sport trips and the reception was extremely helpful and friendly and a special thanks to them from our family. One special surprise is that they allow dogs on the Golf course and it was great fun for our family to walk 18 holes with her. The grounds were extensive and we could do really nice walks just around the hotel property and course. Too bad the mini fridge in the room does not work but they brought us ice when we requested it. As we were here 5 nights we ate out a lot and at the hotel. The hotel restaurant has the best quality of the restaurants in the area, but the selection was limited. It would be great if they extended the selection for dinner. Unfortunately the trattoria was closed for dinner and it would of been great to have just a salad or pizza for dinner as a possibility. The rooms were also a bit on the darker side as I prefer bright lights in the rooms and maybe if they just switch up the bulbs that might help. But that is just a personal preference. Sometimes the floors were not cleaned but after a request it was promptly serviced. All in all, its a beautiful place and caring staff. We really enjoyed our stay here and would love to come back and play a few rounds with our dog.

We liked the place with its views and the hotel with a very nice room very much and our kids loved the indoor pool. However the staff at the reception and in particular in the two restaurants excels in lacking friendliness and missing any kind of service attitude. The highlight of our stay was the maître of service who topped the skill set of his staff by completely ignoring us in the restaurants.

My husband and I just completed a driving trip through the south of France without any advance reservations (except for air and car). Every afternoon when we tired of driving we would visit the nearest tourist office for advice on a really nice place to stay, or in some cases we would see something that appealed to us and inquire directly for an available room. This was how we stumbled upon the Chateau de Taulane. We enjoyed it so much we extended our stay beyond the first night.

The management was very helpful to us (although we are Americans who don't speak any French beyond a handful of words). They showed us a twin room which we liked, but before we got our luggage to the room one of the maids ran up to us to say they had just had a cancellation in the chateau which was a larger room for the same price.

The room was indeed large, spotlessly clean, and beautifully decorated in the cheerful yellow, and terra cotta of Provence. The bath was large and included every amenity including robes. Our windows opened on beautiful views of a stone courtyard, trees, and surrounding hills (plus the golf course). We had breakfast delivered every morning which always included a large variety of fruit; like strawberries and figs that were melt -in the-mouth ripe and sweet. The coffee was hot and excellent (none of that watery American stuff).

We had supper in the dining room every night and found the food and service quite good. I had beef one night with a sauce that was exceptional ! My husband chose the wine but the sommelier knew his business and could answer our questions; he was also almost comically busy shooting (gracefully) around the room and zooming up to pour more wine for us when our glasses were empty (although once my husband tried to beat him to refilling our glasses and I thought he might get his knuckles rapped). I don't know how that sommelier manages to keep up with the whole dining room, but he does - although I noticed he worked up a sweat doing it. He was humorous and charming.

We don't golf, but enjoyed walks around the beautiful grounds. The pool was indoors with lots of glass and light and never crowded. We did not sample the spa. The old stone chapel and in fact all the stone buildings (restored?) were fascinating to us. We have nothing like that in the U.S.

In all, we very much enjoyed the beauty and peace (much more appealing than anything we found on the Cote D'Azur or Biarritz which were mobbed in August). We do plan to return, and hope to bring family over from California next trip.

Where do I start? I was one of a party of four on a cycling holiday in Provence, and booked a one night stay at the the so called "Exclusive Chateau de Taulane". We booked here as it was the only place on our route which we could find online and we figured we could not make it on to Castellane in one day.

From start to finish, the experience was disgraceful. Firstly, we had paid €300 for a "deluxe apartment". When we arrived, we were given the keys to a pretty ordinary twin room with a sofabed in the entrance hall. Then we were informed that we would be charged an additional €55 for the pleasure of two of us having to share the grotty sofabed. When we protested that this did not represent what we were sold, we were told by the receptionist that she didn't "make the rules". When I asked for a comment card, she fidgeted in a drawer and said that they didn't have any. I asked the receptionist whether she felt that €355 represented value for money, and she said that we had only paid €220 plus the €55 - despite the fact that our credit card had already clearly been debited by €300. Where is the missing money, pray tell?

Dinner in the restaurant was no better. The food was overcooked and overpriced, and the service and atmosphere ultra-snooty. When we mentioned to the waiter that the steaks were well overcooked, he sneered and mentioned that he would "taper le chef". No idea what good that was supposed to do for us. The only redeeming feature here was a nice bottle of wine recommended by the obviously well trained sommelier.

The next thing: the advertised steam room and jacuzzi did not work during our visit.

We were incidentally still looking for the Chateau among the golf buggies but left without locating it!

For those of you passing through the village of Logis des Pins, there's a great little spot called the Relais de l'Artuby which charges €45 for a room for two, without the attitude of the so-called Chateau. Unfortunately we discovered this afterwards, as the place doesn't seem to be on the web. The rest of our holiday was fantastic, but a visit to Taulane left a bitter taste in our mouths.

Didn't stay at the hotel but went there to play golf. Of all the courses we played in Provence, it was by far the most expensive but we thought we would treat ourselves. Initial impression was that the view of the course and the surrounding scenery from the snack bar terrace was fantastic and the course looked great. However, when we went out to play, nearly every bunker had more or less been washed away by heavy rain from the previous week and were unplayable. Rest of the course was in good condition.
When we complained that we had not been made aware of the problem upon our arrival, the response was the Gallic shrug of the shoulder and that nothing could be done. Remonstrated for a partial refund but with no success. Spoilt what should have been a great day and left not only a deep hole in my pocket but a very bad taste in my mouth.
Snack bar is expensive for what it delivers.
It would take a lot for me to return.

We stayed here for 4 nights in a family room. The chateau is in a beautiful location, surrounded by mountains and greenery. We were undertaking activities on the Verdon (Ride the Verdon activity group we used and were Fantastic!) and it is a perfect spot just 30 mins away.
Breakfast is lovely in a beautiful room overlooking the golf course and mountains. We ate in the evening once on the fixed menu of €50 each and the meal was Mitchellen star quality!
Pool indoors which is such a pity! and spa area amazing! Pool table and board games freely available which is a nice addition.
Lovely terrace to sun bathe

Improvements: hotel needs a gym and air conditioning! Pool area needs daily cleaning

We didn't stay for the golf but were part of a car club. The breakfast was good and our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. (There is the main building, where I believe the rooms are older and smaller - we were in a separate courtyard block) The golf course looked amazing but would say it's weakest link is the restaurant. Friendly staff and good service however.

Nice hotel. Wonderful Golf. It is really too bad the food is of such POOR quality. How can such a nice Golf club serve such low, low quality food badly executed for such a high price ?
If you want to play a round of Golf, do so but do lunch before or after in on of the local places in the neighborhood.

The hotel is in the middle of nature, surrounded by trees and golf course.
From the moment you enter the domain you feel this is a luxurious place.
The staff is welcoming and always happy to help and to provide some tips to spend a great time.
The building is beautiful and the bedroom (in the second floor of the main building) was clean, comfortable and very nice. The only thing was the bed... it was not as good as I would have expected, but at least the room was quiet and nice.
In the bathroom we found very nice bathrobes and slippers.

We tried the restaurant that first night and discovered again a great place with professional staff and excellent dishes. The presentation was great and the Maitre provided great advices on the choices and wine.

Even for someone not playing golf this is a great relaxing destination and offers very nice indoor swimming pools, terraces...

Great for couples, friends, family... and of course: golfers

This review has different scores for the golf, the hotel and the restaurant. We had a packet deal cintaining:
The golf
The hotel
The restaurant
The golf course is excellent and well kept. We enjoyed it a lot, bussy in the weekend though.
The hotel is good, however why does anyone need to hold the shower head in the shower? At the reception they said this will be solved during the winter. I hope they keep this promise.
The restaurant is not what you would expect, at this location and for this price. The chef and the owner must be ashamed of what they bring to the table. The food is either far too salty or tasteless, insignificant and overpriced. Even if you need to leave the premises in the dark to find a restaurant, please do so.
